The family members of a U.S. citizen who was taken into custody by federal agents in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday are demanding answers as she was detained while on her way to work.

Andrea Velez, a Cal Poly Pomona grad working in merchandising at a shoe company, had just been dropped off by her mother and sister for the workday when they saw her being taken into custody, adding they had barely even driven a block before the arrest began.

"They didn't have vests that said ICE or anything," said Velez's sister Estrella Rosas. "Their cars didn't have license plates."

She says that her mother was driving away when she looked in her rearview mirror at what was described by police as immigration enforcement.

"In the rear mirror she saw my sister was kinda, like, attacked from the back and she was already on the floor," Rosas said.

Video shows a growing crowd of onlookers yelling as officers surround the 32-year-old woman. Her family members were too scared to get out, as Rosas' mother has residency but not full U.S. citizenship.

They're also worried that Velez may have been holding pepper spray, which they say she always carries in her hand when walking downtown, when agents approached her.

Witnesses told CBS News Los Angeles that no one asked for her identification, but her family believes that it was nothing she actually did that led to her arrest, but rather the way she looks.

"Just because of the color of our skin, they think we're criminals," Rosas said. "My sister was there, so they were like, 'Oh, she looks Hispanic, so let's take her too.'"

As of Tuesday night, they have still not been able to find out where Velez is being held and are worried it could be days before they finally do.

CBS News Los Angeles has reached out to the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement for information on Velez's arrest but has not yet heard back. An inquiry was also made asking how agents check a person's status when they first come into contact, and how they find the people they're targeting in enforcement operations.

Some of the video circulating online, showing Velez's arrest, also shows a group of Los Angeles police who appear to be aiding federal agents in the immigration operations.

Later Tuesday, officers told CBS News Los Angeles that they were called to the area after receiving a 911 call reporting a kidnapping at the location. When they arrived, they say that they saw that a federal immigration operation was underway and stayed to maintain peace because they were concerned by the growing crowd and the federal agents.

The UK's Equality and Human Rights Commission, famous for recently trampling on human rights by arresting peaceful protesters, has decided that trans people need to stop complaining about people taking away their rights.

The state has not taken any action against Phillip Koons license. Likely because the Ringling superintendent and either Walters Stitt or both go golfing together.

State agents were investigating Koons after allegations of bullying and physically abusing football players. Some of the players told police that Koons allegedly had them do warm-ups naked, which gave them burns on their genitals.

Some more accounts:

Players are cursed and belittled for missing practice. I was called a pussy when I missed practice because my mother was put in the hospital. I was told I didn’t deserve to play and humiliated in front of the team in the locker room after a game,” one player wrote. “The constant verbal and mental abuse had made some players depressed, anxious, and/or thinking about committing suicide. I have tried to be there for those going through these troubles. (…) One player would get upset after Phillip Koons would call him racial slurs. He felt targeted for his skin color, and we were upset seeing how much this hurt our teammate.”

Another victim impact statement referenced prior allegations about Koons’ behavior at past coaching and teaching jobs.

“I have at times had some suicidal thoughts due to the situation, the pain, and the betrayal. I have felt that the ones I have trusted most and thought were great people have turned their backs on me and others,” the student wrote. “I cannot stand the fact that Phil and the other abusers have continued to get away with this for so long and are still able to keep doing this to kids and other people. I have been traumatized by all of this. I feel I have suffered academically due to the mental strain and depression making it hard for me to focus on my work. (…) My family has been hurt and attacked by the people who support him. My family, friends, and I have been harassed on social media as well as my family and friends have been harassed face to face. I have been hurt and stressed by this entire process. This man and others that are involved deserve to be punished for what they have done.”

While Koons has been listed as the Ringling High School principal on the bottom of the district’s website for months since he was charged, the site now lists Jackie Matherly in that position. Koons was placed on administrative leave during part of the investigation, but he was reinstated by the district.

Remember - Summer Bosmier was driven out of the state for posting a QR code when they made her cover up her library. OSDE spent months wasting everyone’s time by trying to change the dates to avoid a media presence.

The coaching associations contact information is publicly available if you want to let them know how you feel about this.

Greg Warner from Poteau is also a fun name - I think his scandal was letting players mom’s sleep with him for positions. But I’m sure a lot of names on this list would have some very interesting search results… almost as if coaching in the South is a “sexual abuse” license…

Link to a Reddit post by an activist I know.

But to summarise, Amendment NC21 to the Data Use and Access Bill would require sex to be defined as "sex at birth" for all identity verification requests.

This includes people who have changed their sex legally, which will now be separately catalogued.

This means that all kinds of people, including (potential) employers, landlords, government staff etc. will be able to look up these details about you.

This amendment will be voted on on the 7th of May, so if you're in the UK please badger your MP to vote against it (template email in the Reddit post)

“The reason we’re here is because the government of the United States wants you to leave the United States,” Judge Ubaid ul-Haq, presiding from a courtroom on Varick Street, told a group of about a dozen children on a recent morning on Webex.

The parties included a 7-year-old boy, wearing a shirt emblazoned with a pizza cartoon, who spun a toy windmill while the judge spoke. There was an 8-year-old girl and her 4-year-old sister, in a tie-dye shirt, who squeezed a pink plushy toy and stuffed it into her sleeve. None of the children were accompanied by parents or attorneys, only shelter workers who helped them log on to the hearing.

Immigrant advocates and lawyers say an increasing number of migrant children are making immigration court appearances without the assistance of attorneys, which they say will lead to more children getting deported.

“That child will be ordered deported from this country — that could all happen without that child ever speaking with an attorney and given the opportunity to obtain representation,” Shah said. “The cruelty is really apparent to all of us out here in the field.”

Lack of sleep (because today is supposed to be a holiday and NO ONE is supposed to be working)

Hunger (for rushing home without lunch or breakfast)

Previous anger over a bad paycheck (I was docked 25% of my pay for not showing up one day through no fault of my own)

The stress of working against the clock because we were supposed to finish early

My first panic attack in 5 fucking years and an embarrassing episode at work that I'm sure I'll have to talk to HR about tomorrow or Monday so they can determine if I'm sane or crazy and should be fired...

... in the context of the 2010 Equalities Act.

Personal note:

This is a dangerous precedent that is already being used to justify banning trans women from women's bathrooms, and will likely allow male police / security to manhandle women to ascertain their gender. It will also put trans women at a further disadvantage for getting jobs, as if there wasn't enough stigma as is.

Get ready for the genital inspectors, more transpotting (like with that non-trans lady in the Olympics) and an increased amount of abuse of trans people.
