For quite a while now I've been wondering at what point does a far more intelligent and advanced alien race intervene in Earth's global conflicts out in the open. There's gotta be a good reason. The following statements assume there is truth to eyewitness accounts and experiences.
Is it because they are waiting for us to destroy ourselves? I don't think so, they could probably do it with less collateral damage to Earth's resources. And probably humanely.
Is it because that's just their policy or directive? Nah, they make their presence known enough to the point that if this was true then they are not very intelligent after all. Or, if this is true, it's because of a lack of resources.
Or they just don't want to bother with an insignificant race? This could be, but doesn't sit well with me because of #8 below.
Maybe they are advance scouts, and larger contingents are on their way? Well, we've been "scouted" for thousands of years. So they'd have to be from pretty far away if the conquest is not here yet.
Maybe they are travelers at the tail end of a FTL experiment, and are now stuck here?
Have they made deals with governments to stay hands off? Perhaps! But why?
I think they are refugees, from dying/dead planets, and Earth being the largest planet with existing life and infrastructure becomes attractive, like an exotic sanctuary.
Some of the thoughts/assumptions that have kept me on this position:
- If they are lacking resources, this indicates a small contingent and not an armada or larger explorational force.
- Some say they have made agreements with governments over time. In these cases the government/nation seems to get the better deal. I presume safety or protection is what was traded for technology, and/or enough resources to survive.
- Involvement with humans at a development level in ancient times contrasts greatly with modern times. Could this indicate some of those refugee races have come and gone? Are they even the same aliens? Are any of those who have been here in ancient times still around?
- Many encountered races seem homogenous. This indicates small planets with not enough varying climates that would yield different races (ethnicities?).
- Smaller planets are more susceptible to extinction-level cataclysm.
- In my opinion, Earth's various races and overall vastness have contributed to a geopolitically divided world in a way that would be avoided on smaller planets. As a result, innovation happens slower because we are not all united and working towards exploring beyond Earth. Our technological growth is stunted because we can't stop fighting our fellow humans for resources. We even fight about resources allocated to space exploration.
- Mostly for this reason above, and regardless of what science fiction says, I find it highly unlikely that a hostile civilization would ever have the capacity to advance themselves beyond FTL travel. It would have to be stolen, and this just points me back to them being stuck here.
- If a ship filled with today's Earth scientists arrived at a planet in peril we would totally try to help. And it's just 2024, we are not as advanced/altruistic/intelligent as an alien race would allegedly be. We'd have gotten there with a rocket ffs.
Just curious if anyone out there has thought about this. What assumptions do you have about why aliens are not interfering with Earth's global conflicts?
