Hi everyone! I’m participating in Birthright within the next few months and I would love any insight from people who have experienced it themselves.

I have the option between choosing between two “base” cities: Yerevan and Gyumri.

I really want to see all Armenia has to offer, and even though I have some distant family near Yerevan, I wonder if staying with a host family in Gyumri will allow me to see more of the history & nature of Armenia. I can always see family on weekends, right?

What’s the weather like? What are the people like? What about the food? Are the cities walkable?

If you have any experience in either of these cities please let me know. I’d love to know what you enjoyed, disliked, what you wish you did more of, less of, etc. Tell me everything!! Feel free to DM if you don’t want to post here.

Hope to hear from you! Thank you!! :)

Hello, I am a historian and graduate student in the United States researching the Armenian community in Kolkata, India in the late 18th through 19th century. This research project is in the preliminary stages, but will examine the Armenian diaspora, religion, and economy during this time period. If you are familiar with the Kolkata Armenian community, of Armenian descent, and/or can help establish relations with this research project, kindly please use this university form to submit your information so that I may reach out. Any help, especially given the vast geographic distance, would kindly be appreciated as I commence this research project. (Direct contacts with local institutions are also being attempted). Thank you.

Was Beria a secret Georgian nationalist?

In fact the site of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi is where the Armenian churches and graveyards were located in the past.

There was another recent incident where the Sumbatashvili church "St. Barbara's Church" had its gravestones destroyed and a new marble floor was installed.

Is there a database for this?

Parev everyone,

I'm unsure if similar (AMA) posts were posted under this sub, but I thought this would be interesting to try. My great-granddad was Armenian, and I have known third cousins in Armenia. My mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother are Turkish; in other words, my paternal line is Armenian. Although I can't say I was totally clueless about this before, I didn't find out about my extended family until recently. Open to any questions.

Best wishes to all
