Sorry if this is a dumb question or answered in the guide but I didn't realise they didn't come with cables. I've got HDMI 2.1 cables but no speaker cables.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

I have a small issue where the receiver I have is 8K 30HZ/4K120HZ Compatible but only on one HDMI input.

The receiver is the Marantz SR6015

What I'm hoping is that this HDMI switch if plugged into the 4K 120HZ HDMI input will allow me to switch between my PC,PS5 and Series X and also allow for 4K 120HZ with VRR on all of those devices of course only one at a time.

When HDMI 2.1 first came out I recall Switches that work with all of the newer features were garbage.

If anyone can confirm if I'm all good with this switch and my plan I would appreciate it.

Hi All, Quick question. I've got Dirac Live setup on my Onkyo NR7100.

If I have a movie playing I can switch between the 3 slots i've got setup and can hear a difference between the three and also being off, But if I have music playing and switch the slots nothing happens.

Does that seem correct?

Hi!

Im currently trying a shield pro 2019. Im ok with the device.

My only realy problem is not being able to output the 24fps of some movies nicely (so it doesnt look as smooth as it could)

Id like to have sth more new tho. Im looking at alot of options. Most of it seems to be the same shitty box. Its hard to compare since there are hundreds of technologies on them. Everytime i find a new one im happy until i perfectly read all the specs.

Is there a box that can play dolby vision, HDR10 and passthrough lossless DTS and lossless dolby audio? They say there is no perfect stream box. im ok with that.

but it seems like i can only have dolby vision or lossless dts passthrough. sadly much of content is dolby vision, but some of the nicest movie mixes are DTS HD MA

Im ready to drop streaming capabilities like netfilx, youtube etc and easy of use, and maybe go up in price a little bit....

The only thing that can do that seems to be the much more expensive Dune HD Pro Vision 4K Solo. Is that correct? Do I overlook something?

There also seems to be a bit of a controversy regarding if dolby vision is being played correctly on some of the devices wich I find just ridiculous. (even the shield has a redshift? im not sure about that atm)

So I am building a home theater and I recently bought a new epson home cinema 4010 and mid-range denon 5.1 receiver. I have an xbox, wii, blu-ray player, and apple tv 4k hooked up to the receiver, with one hdmi out cord going to the projector. Every source works perfectly fine on the projector except for the apple tv. When I try to use the apple tv through the receiver to the projector, the projector flashes green for about a second and then goes completely blank (as in not projecting anything even though it's on). I know that the projector is receiving a signal because it is not showing HDMI 1 no signal screen, but it refuses to show the video of the apple tv. The sound of the apple tv comes through the 5.1 setup even though I can't see it. What's even more frustrating is that if I unplug the HDMI cord going to the projector and instead plug it into a TV and don’t change anything, the apple tv video shows up on the tv. This made me think that maybe the projector can’t handle the apple tv for whatever reason, but to test this I plugged the apple tv directly into the projector (not through the receiver) and it worked just fine.

Eventually I figured out how to get the apple tv to show up on the projector through the receiver. If I plug the hdmi out cord from the receiver into the HDMI 2 port instead of the HDMI 1 port on the projector it shows up. The difference between the two ports is that the HDMI 1 is HDCP 2.2 while the HDMI 2 port is HDCP 1.4. From what I understand, HDCP 1.4 is for HD content and HDCP 2.2 is for 4k content.

Basically my question is how can I get the apple tv to work in the HDMI 1 port of the projector going through the receiver. Do I need to change visual settings on the receiver or apple tv? I know its possible because I have family who have the same projector and apple tv (different receiver) and the apple tv through the HDMI 1 port works perfectly fine. I would really hate to have to use the HDMI 2 port due to the fact that it will not be as high quality as the HDMI 1 port (that's my understanding, I could be wrong) and I spent a lot of money on this 4k projector.

Thank you very much!

*it is not a cord issue as I have tried multiple different HDMI cords*

Hi guys

I've lived in our house for 8 years and it's prewired in the living room for 5.1, and I've just been going off a center speaker because we had small kids, and it was plenty to watch the news, sports, etc.

I finally want to install the speakers and today I went behind the TV to look for the wires and couldn't find them coming out of the wall anywhere.

I looked everywhere and finally found them coming out in the connection box that's in a hallway closet far away. Its where our DIRECTV, AT&T fiber are hooked up and sure enough the cable speakers are coming out in the box. I know these are common, but can someone explain why they would have the prewired living room wires coming out in a closet 60 feet away? Why would they do this?

How in the hell am I supposed to make this work? I have a Denon 7.1 dual zone receiver under the TV in the living room.

I'm currently doing research on a proper home theater setup. In recent years, I've gotten back into consuming media almost as much as I did in my teens and early 20s.

But I decided I'd like to treat myself to a better setup this year. I don't have a specific budget in mind, but I'm definitely someone who doesn't spend past the point of diminishing returns and I'm still in the process of learning all I need to know before I feel like I can make an informed purchasing decision.

Currently, my setup is as follows

  • Zidoo Z9X Pro as Jellyfin client, capable of playing full disc (Blu-ray) via SMB if ever wanted/needed
  • LG C1 77" getting content via HDMI from the Zidoo
  • Sonos Arc connected via eARC, audio passed through the TV from the Zidoo

Obviously a soundbar is not great for sound. It was a gift from a friend, way before I even owned the C1. The TV can't pass through DTS:X or DTS:HD, TrueHD works just fine - obviously I'm not yet getting any benefit from extra audio channels with a single soundbar.

What I'm wondering is mostly:

  • do I need an AVR. especially regarding sound codecs?
  • is there a sound setup, that allows me to integrate/keep the soundbar, or should I just ditch it?
  • can I keep the Zidoo (it supports everything, but has only 1 HDMI)?

Basically before I try to go through which products are worth purchasing at what price, I'm figuring out what my setup should even look like by the end of it.

So in my country an LG C2/C3 above 55" is too expensive and we also don't have Sony TVs :(

Currently I'm rocking an 12 year old 55'' LG LED with a whole lot of 9 dimming columns. The room is bright during the day, but I can close the curtains and at night it's nice and dark. I'm also sitting more than 3m away from the TV, which makes my 55'' look like a PC monitor.

I'm looking at the following options, but not sure which one and need someone to help me spend my money.

  • TCL C845 65'' (Only the 65'' is available in my country)

  • Hisense U7K 75''

  • Hisense U8K 65''

Price wise all three are costing the same. Should I wait more and get the U8K 75'' or is it not worth it?

I'm looking for a system with chest thumping bass for movies and music, and the Logitech z623 seems like the only option in the market based on reviews.

I don't necessarily plan to set up my 'perfect' home theater until I have a home of my own. So, I suppose a 2.1 system like the Z623 should suffice for now.

I'm after pure, deep bass that you can physically feel traveling through your chest, not just hear. Many systems claim "deep bass" but it often turns out to be loud, boomy noise that doesn't translate to physical impact.

How does the Z623's bass compare, and does it justify its $180 price? I'm not sure if it's worth the investment.

Hi,

I have 4 ceiling speakers that came with the house. Crawling in the attic is not an option as it's very tight/cramped.

How can I tell the speaker wires polarity?

I found this article.

Are all of the options described safe for the speakers?

As for the terminal color on the receiver, is red positive and black negative?

Hi,

When I bought the house, it came with 4 ceiling speakers in the family room. The location is a bit odd. I want to add them to my 3.1 system (to make 7.1 system). My fronts are floor/tower speakers.

Here are the placement of them:

  • The front ceiling speakers are almost above my front speakers.
  • The rear ceiling speakers are above the sofa where I sit.

I have Marantz Cinema 50. And I have the option to set them either as surround, surround back, or height speakers.

Should I set them as:

  1. Front ceiling as surround, rear ceiling as surround back.
  2. Front ceiling as height, rear ceiling as surround.
  3. Set them all as height speakers.
  4. None of the above.

Weird speaker issue (zerobytes.monster)

I have a 5.2.4 setup (height is in-ceiling) with the following issue.

When I do calibration, the receiver plays sound from each individual speaker. When I select "height 1 left", it plays sound, but "height 2 left" also plays sound, although remarkably more quietly.

However, when I select "height 2 left", "height 1 left" stays quiet, as it should.

When I wire the "height 1 right" speaker into the "height 1 left" output, only "height 1 right" plays sound, as expected. Therefore, I don't think it's an issue with the receiver.

When I replace the "height 1 left" speaker entirely, the issue remains.

If this is a wiring issue, then why doesn't it work both ways (playing sound from "height 2 left" should also play sound from "height 1 left", no?)?

Or am I missing something?

Due to a bad SD card I had to replace my installation of ezBEQ, a great and easy Raspberry Pi implementation of BassEQ. (If you don't know what that is, you can read more about BassEQ here)

I encountered a problem with the installation though, and as I don't have posting privileges on the AVS forum, I wanted to share my solution here, just in case anyone else had a problem too.

Apparently EZBEQ isn't compatible with Debian Bookworm (see forum). After installing Debian Bullseye (64-bit w/sec updates, sans desktop environment), the installation steps worked flawlessly, and I could get ezBEQ up and running again without any issue.

If you're unfamiliar with Bass EQ, you can either disregard this post, or explore recovering the bass you've been missing in nearly all your movies.

I currently have a Polk PSW505 subwoofer that I've been mostly happy with (yes yes I know, according to most people Polk subs suck) except a lack of "oompf" and some quite humming while in standby. I'm looking at upgrading to an SVS PB-1000 Pro, but I'm concerned about the bigger/better sub having more impact on the neighbors. I currently haven't had any complaints, and I don't usually listen to high volumes late in the evening. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts or experiences in the matter

Hi all,

Hope someone can assist in my query.

I've just upgraded my old Marantz NR1602 AVR to the STR AN1000 which specifically for movies sounds absolutely fantastic. My problem is when I use it to play games through the PC.

I don't have any issues with the sound being output. My issue is that no matter what I set on the PC whether 5.1 or 7.1 or ATMOS (the receiver recognises these when I switch the TV to the PC input) when I'm playing a game the audio only comes through the front 2 speakers and the sub. To put it bluntly, it sounds absolutely horrendous.

On the old Marantz AVR with an optical cable I'd passthrough to the AVR from the TV and the old AVR allowed me to simply select Dolby PL2 (Movie/Game/Music) which I know is simply an upscaling codec but it sounded fantastic.

I've gone through every single audio selection on the AMP and none sound particularly great and ALL of them default to the 2.1. In my search I stumbled across a lot of people complaining about LPCM with the PS5 and while mileage may vary you have the option to force bitstream and apparently that sounds good.

My issue is really that no matter whether I use the auto tuning or manually tune it myself, the problem is simply that games off the PC only play as 2.1 audio for me and for the life of me I can't find a fix or find a way to force the AMP to play something similar to PL2 (I know it's decades old but none of the new codecs work).

Anyone had issues like this with PC specifically?

(It's not all that important but the speakers are 5x Minx 22, 2x Minx 10 [for ATMOS], 2x X500 CA subs)

I’ve got the above setup, and most of the time, just watch/listen to the built in apps on the TV. Sounds is not really an issue. If I switch to the TiVo, again, no big issues with sound. It’s when I switch back to the tv from the TiVo and run an app, it really blasts away. I try to remember to turn down the volume before playing anything, but sometimes I forget. And when I do, it is thunderously loud. Is there a setting from either the TV or the Denon that can mitigate this?
