With my current apartment setup, running wires to my surround speakers would be very annoying and not worth the trouble.

Im looking into alternate solutions. Saw someone recommend a wireless receiver adapter pair like this . I'm assuming that one end plugs into your main receiver, then the other pair acts as an amp for your surround speakers.

I'm wondering a few things:

  1. Has anyone used this kind of setup. Does it work well for setting up rear surround speakers.
  2. Are there any other brands or products you would recommend.
  3. Are there any receiver boxes out there that support this functionality out of the box. I'm currently using an old goodwill yahama as my main amp, and would not mind upgrading if need be.

I tried watching a remux file of a movie on jellyfin but it kept buffering. I later connected my TV to a usb drive with the remux file stored in it and tried watching it but it would play with just the audio and no video.

Finally I decided to connect my TV to a laptop with a hdmi cable. However I have a couple of questions:

  1. Will I lose out on quality if I play the file with a hdmi cable?
  2. How do I fix the problem involving the usb drive? I'm assuming it's an encoding problem as my TV does not support dts.
  3. If I were to get the usb working correctly, which would give me a better video and audio quality: the usb or the hdmi?

I am a long time Apple TV user who recently upgraded our home audio system. Since upgrading to a new Yamaha RX-V6A, the audio from the Apple TV is not synced with the sound. This happens on pretty much all the apps I use. I have tried using the Lipsync manual adjustment but that has not solved the problem. I am not having audio sync issues when I using app native to our EPSON EH-LS3300B Ultrashort Lower Projector.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues? Is there a way to resolve it?

Thanks

I currently have energy c500 speakers with matching rears and center. I'm looking at q acoustics 5040s, 5090 and 5020s to maybe replace them. Would they be a significant upgrade to what I have?

Hi thereI'm looking for a budget 75" TV. Main Usecase: Casual Nintendo Switch Gaming with Friends and Cinema/Football Nights for 10-30 People. I don't want to go down the projector route for many reasons which aren't important rn

ATM i have my eyes on the LG 75UR76006LL (840€) but also on the Hisense 75E7KQ (840€). The LG is IPS and the Hisense is Quantum-Dot (Also Dolby Vision & HDR10+). Generally i'd go for the LG because of my trust in the brand but i heard that Quantum-Dot is better than simple IPS. Can Hisense keep up with LG? I'm open for better Options in that price category tho

Also is VA a better option for TV's or IPS. I know quiet allot about PC Monitors but with TV's i'm sorta confused because every manufacturer seems to have a different standard (i.e. Crystal UHD from Samsung) and my TV obviously has a different usecase than my PC Gaming Monitor.

This question may be a bit of a reach but my current home theater system is a 5.1:

Denon x1700h

Infinity Reference 253 LR

Infinity Reference RC263 Center

Infinity Reference 162 rears

I am strongly considering a 5.1.2 system with front high atmos. With the 45 degree angle height I believe placing them right at the top of my front wall (pretty high ceilings) will give me a good position.

I've read that it's pretty important to match the speakers as best as possible for the atmos. Unfortunately the Infinity reference series is likely gone forever. I picked it up on big savings to begin with so not terribly surprising. struggling to find a pair that matches.

Any thoughts on the best wall mounted atmos speakers? I'm thinking perhaps the Polk OWM3? Reasonably priced and light enough to be wall mounted easily. I'm in the US.

Hello.

When I play Dolby 5.1 tracks on my 9.1.4 system (without upmixing), it outputs the surround sounds on my lateral SL and SR speakers, so that C, FL, FR, SL and SR are "active speakers". I expected the surround sound to be output SBL and SBR insteal of SL and SR, as a 5.1 setup normally has the surround speakers on the back. Is this normal behavior? And yes I double checked the cabling and it is correct.

Thanks for your help.

Hey all, recently upgraded my display and want to take advantage of 120hz and VRR. Current AVR is the Denon S540BT which has been my first and only AVR.

After checking out the buying guide I’m considering the following.

Denon S660H B-Stock from Gibby’s for $369.99CAD pre tax

Denon S760H B-Stock from Gibby’s for $549.99CAD pre tax

Are there any other options not on the buying guide I should consider? I’m connecting it to a Sony X90L, PS5, Roku, PC and mostly direct stream from a Plex server.

Right now I think my best bet is the 660h as it gets me what I’m looking for at a more affordable price than the 760.

Original Title: We'll be building a 1200 sq ft ADU in our backyard. It's primary intended purpose is to be a rental. What advice or ideas can you give that would enable one of the rooms or the main family room to also serve as a home theater if or when we decide to not have renters in there?

We'll be building a 1200 sq ft ADU in our backyard. It's primary intended purpose is to be a rental. What advice or ideas can you give that would enable one of the rooms or the family room to also serve as a home theater if or when we decide to not have renters in there?

(Of course, the initial renters could install a home theater in there if they want to.)

We are at the very beginning stages of the ADU planning and do not yet have a floorplan. Location is Southern California. The ADU can be up to 16 feet tall and 1200 sqft max.

A few ideas I had:

-Keep the target room as symmetric as possible.

-Doors away from where the projector screen or TV and speakers (mains and surrounds) would be located.

-Have areas to mount the side and surround speakers to the walls at the proper location and height.

-Somehow install the Atmos speakers at the recommended height range. Could be pendant or in-ceiling.

-Approproate circuit breakers and wall sockets in the right places.

-No fireplace.

-If located in the family room, perhaps the screen is viewable from the kitchen or eating area.

-If there will be vaulted ceilings, have it be acoustically symmetric.

What other ideas or suggestions do you have?

I upgraded my receiver Marantz and added a few Paradigm ceiling and wall speakers to have Atmos almost 2 years ago.

I went through the setup process and only did the manual setup. It sounded….good/ok. Having a newborn at the time and no quiet time I accepted the outcome.

Well I finally had some time and I came across the Audessy mic….so I ran the proper setup.

WOW! I finally got my moneys worth.

Learn from my ignorance.

Thank you.

I live in Houston so it gets quite hot in Spring to Fall. In my upstairs home theater it’s painted black and has carpet. How much heat is the projector going to output considering it’s used with a sound system and Xbox, all simultaneously? The thermostat is on the other side of the house so it won’t know to cool down the room if it gets hot.

Looking for a qualitative or anecdotal answer 😅. Am I overthinking the heat issue?

In 2017 when I was starting my home theater, I was able to snag a Polk Signature 5.0 open box deal from Adorama. I added an SVS SB-12 NSD (12" sealed sub) to make it a 5.1 system. So here is what I have been running the last 6 and a half years:

Fronts: Polk Signature S55

Center: Polk Signature S30

Rears: Polk Signature S10

Sub: 1 - SVS SB-12 NSD

This setup ran me under $1k at the time ($575 for the speakers and $400 for the sub). Overall, I have been happy with the setup, especially for the cost.

I recently jumped on the Adorama deal for a Denon X3800H because I wanted HDMI 2.1 and the ability to have Dirac. Plus, I liked gaining the ability to add to my system. With this latest purchase, I am thinking of upgrading my speakers (particularly my center) or sub. I am also open to adding to the system, possibly another sub or height speakers.

I am not looking to do any of this tomorrow. I will be doing it either a little at a time or saving to do a few pieces at once. I don't have an exact budget, other than I do not want to go insane. So under $1000 for any one component seems like it would be the very top (even less is better). Again, I would do this over time and in phases.

I only have a single seating position dead center about 8' away from the TV. The second seat is occasionally occupied by someone who really does not care about the sound and is not often paying close attention to the content. This would be mainly for home theater (75/25 HT/Music).

TL;DR:

So, if this were your system, what would be your upgrade path? What would you add or replace first, and what would you add or replace it with?

Anybody know a 4K 65' TV/monitor that have its own legs and can stand on its own vertically? Preferably options for both vertical and horizontal leg configuration, but the important thing is to be able to stand on its own vertically without any wall mounts or additional TV stands.

Watching4k from both streaming and 4k Blu ray sources, I’ve noticed people faces have a color blur to them. Any thoughts how to fix/adjust? Not all shows/movies do this.

Have been running dual SVS PB1000 (old model, non-pro model) subwoofers for several years now in our living room. My wife does not allow me to find optimal placement for them, so they just flank the tower speakers up front symmetrically. For what it is worth audyssey shows there is a massive drop in the 40hz-80hz range for the subs. Music still sounds amazing, friends love having a party at our place, no question there. But still, it never feels as chest-punching as music does in my car. Would upgrading to e.g. 1 single PB4000 or SB4000 make a difference? (dual bigger subs is not an option unfortunately) Or is the sub-optimal placement a more likely culprit of the lack of PUNCH and would increasing the size likely not give me much improvement?

I recently upgraded my TV and startet to play 2160p remux content instead of 1080p remux. With 1080p content I never had any buffering issues but now there is a buffering after ca. one hour into a movie. After stopping the movie and restarting a the time mark there is no further buffering, but it is not ideal.

My system:

  • Ripped Movies Remux (50+ Gb) on external HDD
  • connected via USB 3.0 to >

  • Plex Server (Intel Pentium G630T, 4 Gb, Asus EAH6450)
  • connected via CAT cable/Switch (TP-Link TL-SG105) to >

  • Plex client (Nvidia Shield pro 2019)

I have an old Sony Surround Sound Speaker setup which belonged to my dad.

It's 4 Sony SS-LA500ED and an Sony SS-LAC505ED (the Subwoofer SAW-D200 is broken atm, so I'm using a subwoofer from the Sony BDV-E6100).

I've been using the Speakers on the normal floor stands, but have been wanting to mount them on the wall for a long time now. I was just wondering if anybody knows if these speakers work good front facing or if I need to angle them to my MLP?

(I'm the only one using the sound system, so facing the speakers at myself wasn't really an issue)

Because when wall mounting them I can't really angle them to my MLP, they are only front-facing (I believe) and I wouldn't want to mount them on my wall only to find out that it doesn't sound as good.

FYI, I have a square/rectangular room, with each speaker in a corner and I have little room to distance the front speakers from the side walls. I am still figuring out the subwoofer location but that's not the issue at the moment. The center speaker is above my TV, but I never noticed anything wrong with the sound, so this post is mainly for the front and back speakers.

My MLP is in the middle of the room, pretty close to the floor. Behind me is a large window and close to my left front speaker are two large balcony doors. (I have a large light blocking curtain in front of the balcony doors, I don't know if that helps a bit with reflection).

Next to my front left and front right speakers are two closets from IKEA, with a cupboard between the two closets where my TV and receiver are located. Above my TV is a wooden plank from IKEA where the center speaker sits. So I don't have a lot of room to play with. I was also wondering about acoustic paneling and absorption, but because I don't have any experience with this I haven't bought anything for it.

I can upload some pictures if need be.

TL;DR:

Can I front-face the SS-LA500ED with absorption paneling on the reflecting points or do they work better when angled at the MLP?

The provided wall-mounts don't allow angling to the side.

Edit:

Almost forgot, I use the Onkyo TX-NR646 as the Receiver.
