I'm currently using my PS5 for 4k movies for now. I'm in the process of upgrading my sound system from cheap PC monitor speakers and a subwoofer to improved speakers, subwoofer with a receiver. Is it recommended to plug the PS5 into the receiver thru HDMI 2.1?

Hey! I recently set up a new system. (Pair of Klipsch RP-8000f II, RP-504C II, SVS PB 2000 Pro, and a Sony AN-1000 receiver. It sounds amazing, and has been well worth the investment.

I have noticed though that music tends to have significantly more bass and might even sound a little better when I play music through bluetooth to the reciever instead of through the music app on my apple tv 4k.

I am more confused because I obviously feel that the wired connection should be better overall. Is there anything I need to change, or any obvious reason for this difference.

Thanks for any insight!

Trying to output composite video via HDMI 3 (Zone output) in an adjacent room, and all I see on my projector screen is the Yamaha splash? Composite output works perfectly fine over the primary HDMI 1 output and the mirrored HDMI 2 output, but I only get the splash on the third zone output?

HDMI sources display perfectly fine on the third zone output, it’s only composite that I’m having trouble with.

It should be noted that I can see the AVR indicate that I’ve selected the composite input in the zone output, it’s just not displaying the video. I know Zone 4 only supports HDMI sources, but Zone 2 appears like it should support everything else since those inputs are selectable. Any ideas?

Yamaha A8A series.

Thanks!

Just purchased a VRROOM to resolve a weird issue I’ve been having with my AVR and liking it very much. Anyone know where I can get the full list of url-ip commands for the device? Trying to integrate the thing into my smart home system. Specifically looking for commands to independently switch inputs on the device for both TX0 and TX1 outputs (matrix mode). Only found a few commands for TX0 thus far. Any documentation I can refer to?

Thanks!

I'm currently in the process of building my new home. We have a flex room, approx. 344 sq. ft., that will serve as our TV room. Looking at the picture () the TV will be on the left wall, centered. The top wall is virtually all windows, right wall has one window in the ~center, bottom is the entryway.

I have zero knowledge about sound / surround sound systems, but would like to set this room up in a way that will make for an immersive viewing experience. Haven't fully determined furniture, but at least one couch near the right wall.

I've read the buying guide, it all seems very overwhelming, if anyone can provide me with general recommendations to get started, I'd appreciate it!

Hi! 👋 My old desktop speaker system gave today its last sound and I’mm willing to buy some crazy speakers next. I was thinking of the Logitech z960 initially, but have seen tons of reviews that the z5500 is better, even if it’s older. So, I kept searching and found a surround 5.1 Definitive Technology ProCinema 600 instead, but this also seems to be pretty old. The speakers are at this point needed for an apartment, but I also need to be able to use them in the near future in a house and in its garden. That’s why I was thinking to a passive-active system like the Yamaha Stagepas 400BT, but this doesn’t come with a subwoofer and its price is much higher, even though it could easily cover a larger space.

What are you recommending? Should I go for a surround system, as there are also chances to cover a bigger space or what else? The budget is limited to $500-$800. What I want is a good system, which has a clear sound and powerful bass.

Hey everyone!

I'm super new to all this so please bear with me. I am looking to create a home theatre in my basement. I am purchasing the LG G3 Series 65-Inch OLED 4k for my TV and the Panasonic DPUB820K as my Blu-ray Player. I have two questions:

  1. What 5.1 Surround Sound System would you recommend for this set-up with a roughly $1,000-1,500 budget?

  2. What do I need to purchase in addition to set up my 5.1 system. Do I need a receiver? If so, which one? Or can I just plug the sound system I buy into my Blu-ray player?

Thanks in advance!

Original Title: I've got some money to play with. Wife limits TV at 65". But, sound system is free game. Shall be 3.1. Surround and Atmos in our space isn't a great option. So, gonna get a center, and possibly some new R/L chamnels

I'll start by saying I know very little about surround sound, so feel free to correct me or call me stupid :) <3

The room:

  • Pics: (pardon the boxes, still moving in)
  • Dimensions: About 15 ft by 12 feet
  • TV: 65 inches
  • This is generally what I'm aiming to be a theater room, mostly for games and movies. It's a bit small, and there's a much larger room I can use if need be, but I want to use that larger room for something else and the tv/couch from my old place seemed to be setup well for the size of that room.

So the only thing I felt I needed to add was a surround sound setup. These are the components I'm looking at, for a 5.1.2 setup:

  • AV Receiver: $744 Denon AVR-X1800H 7.2 Channel AV Receiver
  • Center channel speaker (will put it in on the top shelf under the TV, there's not enough room on top of the TV stand because the TV isn't lifted much of of the TV stand, and I don't want to wall mount it): $284 Klipsch RP-450C Center Channel Speaker - Ebony
  • [Edited] subwoofer (will put one in the corner next to the window and TV, and one on the wall next to the door perpendicular to the couch): $600, Klipsch SPL-150SW 15 Inch Powered Subwoofer
  • [Edited] Front R/L speakers: $900 Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-8000F Floorstanding Speaker
  • Rear R/L speakers (There's a bit of space behind the couch, I should put the speakers as far back and facing the couch on both sides right?): $200 Klipsch R-51M Bookshelf Speaker (Pair)
  • Upward facing speakers (I don't want to ceiling mount speakers, so I can just put these on the front R/L speakers right?): $325 Klipsch RP-500SA Dolby Atmos Surround Sound Speakers (Ebony)
  • Stands for the rear speakers: $70 PERLESMITH 28 inch stands
  • Speaker wires (these don't come with wires right so I buy this spool, cut it, and attach the wires? Sounds like no crimping necessary like I'm used to with ethernet?): $15 Amazon Basics 16-Gauge Speaker Wire Cable, 100 Feet

Does this make sense? Am I overspending/underspending in some areas? Does 5.2.2 make sense in this room at all?

The one downside I can think of is there's gonna be a lot of cables going everywhere - especially because I'll run out of room under the TV with the speaker and AV receiver so I'll need to move the playstation and switch to a bookshelf or something, between that and the speaker wires not going through the wall it's a lot of cables just kinda there. But I'll try to hide it with bookshelves and whatnot.

I have a Yamaha RX-V679 and a Sony KD55X9000H TV with an Apple TV 4K and I use Netflix and Infuse for my 4k movies from the NAS. I did have the Apple TV plugged into the TV and ARC back to the AVR but that limited the audio to just Dolby and no HD audio signals through ARC as it seems too old. Dolby video worked with Netflix and most movies from the NAS but no HD audio. I switched to plugging the Apple TV into the amp and then back to the TV for PCM from Infuse (which I believe is HD audio).

Does this mean the amp is not sending any HDR video to the TV now? I can't see any HDR support from the Yamaha specs page.

My system is predominantly setup for music, so using it for TV and movies etc is a bit of an afterthought. I know much of the issue is the mix, as it seems modern films are mixed with the dialogue so much lower than the music and sound effects, but I was wondering if adding a centre will help?

I have no way of tuning the speakers individually, so I would just be relying on placement and the hopes that the centre will give me a bit more midrange punch.

Original Title: Are there any home theater system 5.1 bundles/kits that are actually worth buying? I really don't trust myself to buy everything separately. Budget is 1k. Seems Klipsch dominates this market but the consensus here is to avoid.

Any suggestions are appreciated

The front speakers on my 5.1 system are full size towers: Energy Connessoir C-8; two 8 inch woofers on each and each weighs 65 pounds. They're highly efficient (91db) and specs say 28 to 25,000Hz. Setup includes two SVS SB12-NSD subs.

I posted previously where I indicated my Onkyo TN-NR6050's (effectively identical to TX-NR6100), AccuEQ sound calibration system set the crossover at 40Hz for the front mains. But I read that that I should instead set the crossover at 80Hz.

If I do setting the crossovers for the front mains at 80Hz, seems like there's no point in having larger front speakers. I may as well have large bookshelf speakers.

Am I missing something here?

I see a lot of questions about the value of more than one sub, so since I am recalibrating my system I thought I'd share some raw scans.

TLDR: even without EQ two subs together make up for the flaws of each single sub to give a really nice looking response even before EQing.

This is in a multipurpose room, so my subs aren't in the perfect position. I have two subs and they are placed where they make aesthetic sense, and then the orientation and exact location was optimized by taking multiple REW scans and shooting for minimizing nulls. In the first picture you can see the results from one of my seating positions for the front and rear sub. It's clear that the rear sub has a giant null at about 22 Hz, and the right sub has a an even bigger null at around 92Hz.

Neither of these is a good situation, but take a look at the second pic. I'm taking this data to optimize my EQ (via a miniDSP), so this data is completely raw - no correction of any kind. However, you can see that the measurement for both subs together looks really good! Each one is making up for the deficiencies of the other, so there is actually not a whole lot of EQing I have to do - just need to get that all flattened out a bit.

I thought I'd throw these raw scans up here to show objectively one reason two subs are better than one: you don't have to have your subs in the perfect location to get a really good response. The extension is: you can get the response looking really good for more than one seat, since you can never get subs in the perfect position for multiple seats: some will always be off. Dual (or multi) subs lets you deal with imperfect positioning.
