Pig Island, also known as Big Major Cay, is a small uninhabited island in the Exuma archipelago in the Bahamas. It is famous for its unusual inhabitants: a colony of swimming pigs.

These pigs, which have become a popular tourist attraction, live on the island and often swim in the crystal clear waters nearby, approaching boats in search of food.

It is unclear how the pigs arrived on the island. Some theories suggest they were taken by sailors who planned to return to cook them but never did, while others suggest the pigs swam to the island after a nearby shipwreck.

Another version indicates that the pigs were introduced as part of a tourism development plan.

Pig Island is only accessible by boat, and many tours offer excursions to see the pigs and swim with them.

The experience of interacting with these animals in such a picturesque environment has made the island one of the Bahamas' most unique and popular attractions.

Kukur Tihar, also known as "Day of the Dogs,” is a Hindu festival in Nepal dedicated to honoring dogs.  It falls on the second day of Tihar, a five-day Hindu festival celebrated around October or November. 

On this day, people worship dogs, decorating them with garlands and applying vermilion tika (a red mark) on their foreheads. Dogs are also offered food and treats

There are only five well-documented fatal lightning strikes on giraffes between 1996 and 2010. But due to the population of the species being just 140,000 during this time, it makes for about 0.003 lightning deaths per thousand giraffes each year. This is 30 times the equivalent fatality rate for humans.

Dogxim, or Graxorra in Portuguese, was a female canid hybrid between a Pampas fox and a domesticated dog that was discovered in Brazil in 2021.

The canid showed a mixture of fox and dog behaviors, and a team of geneticists led by Thales Renato Ochotorena de Freitas and Rafael Kretschmer announced in 2023 that she was a distinct hybrid genetically that "represents the first documented case of hybridization between these two [fox and dog] species".

She was popularized as the first "fox"-dog hybrid documented in the world, although the Pampas fox and other South American foxes are not true foxes, being instead closer genetically to wolf-like canids, which include dogs.
