A place to post new communities all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

Rules

The rules for behavior are a straight carry over of Mastodon.World's rules. You can click the link but we've reposted them here in brief, as a guideline. We will continue to use the Mastodon.World rules as the master list. Over all, be nice to each other and remember this isn't a community built around debate. For the rules about formatting your posts, scroll down to number 2.

1. Follow the rules of Mastodon.world, which can be found here.

A. Provide an inclusive and supportive environment. This means if it isn't rulebreaking and we can't be supportive to them then we probably shouldn't engage.

B. No illegal content.

C. Use content warnings where appropriate. This means mark your submissions NSFW if need be.

D. No uncivil behavior. This includes, but is not limited to: Name Calling; Bullying; Trolling; Disruptive Commenting; or Personal Criticisms.

E. No Harrassment. As an example in relation to Transgender people this includes, deadnaming, misgendering, and promotion of conversion therapy. Similarly Misogyny, Misandry, and Racism are also banned here.

2. Include a community or instance title and description in your post title. - A following example of this would be New Communities - A place to post new communities or instances all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

3. Follow the formatting. - The formatting as included below is important for people getting universal links across Lemmy as easily as possible.

Formatting

Please include this following format in your post:

[link text](/c/[email protected])

This provides a link that should work across instances, but in some cases it won't

You should also include either:

[email protected]

or instance.com/c/community

FAQ:

Q: Why do I get a 404?

A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.

Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?

A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn't get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn't actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.

If you create a community, please try and populate it with content. I see a lot of new communities with 0-1 posts from the mod. That's not nearly enough to get people engaged - users are going to see that it's a ghost town and leave.

If you have enough interest to create a community, you probably know something about the subject matter, so PLEASE add some posts (5-10 would be a good start). Maybe some questions to get people talking, even popular reposts from other sites. It sucks shouting into a void, but if you don't do it, everyone else will also be shouting into a void.

Also please consider whether you need to create a community! When there are 100 million users of the site, there may be 1000 people who are interested in the same exact niche tabletop RPG as you, but there are <500,000 users here for now, so you'll be lucky to find 10. Consider creating a thread in a broader community (like boardgames) until you have enough people talking in the thread that it gets messy - then it's time to create a separate community.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

It has classics from Backgammon (and its multiplayer equivalent, Ludo) to Terraforming Mars and up to modern titles released this year. Many are totally free to play with just an account. Some are paywalled behind premium access, but you only need one person at the table with a premium subscription to start the game, and then everyone else can participate for free.

You can play in real time with people or turn-based across days at a dozen different virtual tables simultaneously (it notifies you, either by email or other settings, whenever it's your turn).

It handholds you through legal moves, so you can use the platform to learn new games. Some of my in-person board game purchases came from games I learned here online!

The existing community at [email protected] may no longer be a viable option since the feddit.de server has been down for a while now. I've created [email protected] as a replacement. Mostly out of my own need for assistance! So if you're a Synology owner, head on over and subscribe

(and also help me fix my issue thanks)

A relaunched community for anything creative. Art, music writing, anything you made, or want to share that someone else made. If you find it online and it looks creative, post it. If you made it, post it. Post pictures, links, videos, writing etc. You are encouraged to mention whether it is OC or not.

I've previously seen people describe dating a person with ADHD as "Microdosing Wikipedia" and I thought that was a fun idea so I figured I would make a community dedicated to that specifically.

The idea is to post either random or interesting articles you find on any wiki (Doesn't actually have to be wikipedia so a games/fandoms wiki would also be included) and people can discuss the content or the subject of the article.

It's just a small space for people to learn about stuff that they have no reason to learn about otherwise.

This is a no-agenda less moderated climate change community. Moderation power is not abused and mods do not suppress ideas in order to control the narrative.

Obvious spam, uncivil posts, and misinformation are not immune to intervention, but on-topic civil posts are certain to not be subject to censorship (unlike the excessive intervention we see in the other climate community).

Share news and information about climate change without fear of getting banned for pointing out the cow in the room.

So I originally made this community as a way to track these DOGE task forces that are popping up all over the U.S. in different states, but it is also to collect and expose any corruption happening at state or local levels.

For example, my state DOGE task force has actually gone pretty silent for now bc they've already drawn too many raised eyebrows and likely violated public transparency laws. Still, my governor continues to sign very corrupt EOs and does all kinds of crap on a regular basis that is directly related to his love of "fiscal responsibility and transparency."

I try to include information about other states when I come across it, but I am pretty overwhelmed just trying to keep up with the neverending corruption in my own state. I need help to create a resource for people to be able to see just how common and widespread this stuff is:

Here is an example of two Florida politicians introducing a bill presented as a way to simply reduce bloat and more efficiently aid states during a natural disaster. However, if the bill became a law, it would actually aid the Trump administration and help achieve their goal of removing FEMA from the Department of Homeland Security. One of the FL representatives introducing the bill, just happens to be a member of Federal DOGE and has been trying to push this bill for quite some time. The other representative on the bill, received an endorsement from Speaker Johnson, for his run for governor, shortly after co-signing.

Here are a few examples of Heritage Foundation affiliates influencing or attempting to influence state policy in Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Colorado, but I know there is so much more going on that I cannot even begin to keep up with.

I know stuff like this is happening all over the U.S. (and the world) because there are Heritage Foundation affiliates established in all 50 states (even the liberal ones), as well as Canada and the U.K. working to promote local policy that benefits their very wealthy individual and corporate donors.

So whatever local corruption you notice going on around you, be sure to drop it in the community. There's a good chance it might be related to things happening in other parts of the country (and the world) even if it doesn't seem obvious at first glance.

I've been traveling a long time and will try to answer you or at the very least point you in the right direction.

I made this community about a week or so ago on the Lemmy.ca to help promote Canadian music and musicians. Been posting each day, with features in the community such as a ListenBrainz playlist for songs shared in the community, weekly featured artists, and weekly discussion posts (currently paused until Monday to sync it with the start of the week).

This is something I'm incredibly passionate about. Canada has a lot of music talent that is overlooked, and while the amount of Canadian music talent has done nothing but grow, the discoverability for Canadian musicians has faltered in recent years with the decline in local Canadian music publications.

Please come in and share tunes from Canadian musicians, inform people of music tours occurring in Canada, and showcase Canadian music news and magazine articles!

It would be nice to create a community for flops here and on Pixelfed too. I'm pretty sure there are at least some of us on Fediverse, and it would be really good to introduce floptok members from tiktok into fediverse as well. Who's interested in helping me with it?

This community is to find that game you can’t remember. Like it’s on the tip of your tongue.

Do you remember something about a game, but can't find the title? Do you want to finally know what it is? Post here and maybe someone can help.

Come to find your game, or help others find theirs!

[email protected] A community dedicated to documenting, discussing and critiquing overreach of the United Kingdom's Government.

Thought it was relevant considering recent cases of protesters being arrested, online safety act, encryption backdoor requirements being discussed, etc.

I'd like this place to also be neutral in terms of not fighting claiming "we should censor one idea but not the other", but just being posting articles about attacks on free speech and expression in general.
