Oceanside is a name adopted for a group of communities on the eastern coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. It is part of the Regional District of Nanaimo and includes the City of Parksville and the Town of Qualicum Beach as well as the unincorporated communities of Nanoose Bay, Coombs, Errington, French Creek, Bowser, Deep Bay, Qualicum Bay and a few other smaller centres. Sea levels are projected to rise by half a metre by 2050, increasing both the frequency and severity of flooding. By century’s end, the ocean could rise as much as 1.3 metres — enough to submerge entire neighbourhoods.

Other high-risk communities include Courtenay, Campbell River, Parksville, Sidney, Qualicum Beach, North Saanich, and Victoria’s Inner Harbour.

This year he was surprised see "French Press Coffee Roasters - U.S.A" displayed on the screen when his coffee was awarded the gold medal, particularly "galling" given the recent trade friction between Canada and the U.S.
