I love treasure hunting. Sometimes Usenet feels like the dusty old thrift store of the Internet. If you have ever found a thrift store with rows of shelves chock full of books, old compact discs, and ancient cassette tapes, then you know what I mean.

As the title says, I am looking for active newsgroups. I found alt.fan.usenet and alt.usenet.newbies

There are troves of interesting information on that wiki, including the maps. I'd think that would be amazing to keep alive.

Does anyone even know how (and from where) they scrape data to keep it up to date?
