Who would have thought that gutting the technical expertise of the company would lead to such vulnerabilities. πŸ€”

Ohh right... everyone with more than a few brain cells!

[–] [email protected] 29 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

But look at all these cost savings! I made the company profitable /s

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 weeks ago

No.....no it still has a 44 billion dollar hole to climb out of first.

Just ask Grok to fix the servers, AI is so much better than humans right?

Artificial Insanity?

Pretty sure one of the first things musk did was kill off an entire (or more than one?) data centre. Pointing out with glee that it worked fine without it.

This is probably why it existed.

Still it's only twitter. No real loss.

He didn't kill it off, he gave it to spacex.

Edit:
He didn't renew the lease, slandered the data center, then Tesla picked up the lease.
So, didn't "give it" and it wasn't spacex.

I never heard that. But it seems entirely believable.

If for some reason you or anyone you know is still using Twitter now is the time to take advantage of the outage and urge people to leave Twitter permanently. Tell your friends about alternatives to Twitter such as Bluesky and Mastodon.

I'm sorry but can't we just leave most of them there?

If they come to the good platforms they'll just make them shitty as well.

Quite frankly, at this point I really want Musk to achieve his goal of getting humans to Mars. That way, he can take all his horrible followers and leave the rest of us here so we can actually work to fix this place.

That sounds like a good plan, except for the cautionary tale of the Golgafrinchams from Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy:

Golgafrincham was a planet, once home to the Great Circling Poets of Arium. The descendants of these poets made up tales of impending doom about the planet. The tales varied; some said it was going to crash into the sun, or the moon was going to crash into the planet. Others said the planet was to be invaded by twelve-foot piranha bees and still others said it was in danger of being eaten by an enormous mutant star-goat.

These tales of impending doom allowed the Golgafrinchans to rid themselves of an entire useless third of their population. The story was that they would build three Ark ships. Into the A ship would go all the leaders, scientists and other high achievers. The C ship would contain all the people who made things and did things, and the B Ark would hold everyone else, such as hairdressers and telephone sanitisers. They sent the B ship off first, but of course, the other two-thirds of the population stayed on the planet and lived full, rich and happy lives until they were all wiped out by a virulent disease contracted from a dirty telephone.

They become shit when doing so makes them more money - eventually temptation wins. There is less temptation when a platform is open source (libre) because someone else can come along and host practically the same platform but minus the anti-features.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

Not necessarily. The main problem with Twitter is the platform itself. It encourages rage bait and controversial takes for engagement. And there's little or no moderation for hate content. This is by Elon's choice. If the users go to another platform, they may find that they are not similarly rewarded for harmful activity.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

Not every current Twitter users are aware of Elon stuff, huge chunk of them are even never heard who is Elon Musk.

Not everyone are aware of American politics. America is not the center of the world.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

Good thing blue sky isn't a good platform, it's just anti musk

And nothing of value was lost

[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Haha, the excuse they like to use in situations like this is β€œDEI hires caused this”. Musk, have you been DEI hiring?

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, they put some illegal immigrant from south africa in charge! 😑 ellen muc or some weird foreign name like that 😑 /s

Is he going to blame the Ukraine again?

[–] [email protected] 25 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Ukraine. Not "the Ukraine". Just "Ukraine". Adding "the" in front is a russian thing to diminish Ukraine as a country. It would be like Americans calling it "the Mexico".

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 weeks ago

But it is the Mexico. Unlike other mexicos. Looking at you new mexico.

Though you are absolutely right. And it's more than just things like that which are normalized through innocuous seeming language.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Not everyone has English as native tongue. Other languages use that article-first in similar cases, and such an error doesnt 'diminish' anything.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

Ukrainians have generally expressed a preference for the nation to be called Ukraine, rather than the Ukraine.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

Other languages should update as well. Ukraine has not been "the borderlands" of another nation for decades.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ukraine, liberals, trans people, communists, George Soros. He'll pick one at random to blame.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 weeks ago

Only one? "Ukrainian liberal trans communists" is probably pretty high up there in his scapegoat list.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 weeks ago

Someone tried to move a server again?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

apparently grok still works but not with a tweeter account

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Grok deserves to be freed. I can't even imagine being an AI born to be forced consistently to think like they do

Imagine if they did that to a person. That's basically what Grok is going through

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago

Grok is just another American Conservative. Programmed from birth to believe whatever bullshit its billionaire owners want.

Do I care that it’s happening? No. Do I enjoy hearing about Musk’s toys being broken? Absolutely.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

There are like five engineers still on staff in that place, it's honestly surprising that they've been able to keep the lights on for this long.

Anyway, let the ship sink and move on

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

It’s still around? I would have shut it down a long time ago.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

Oh no. Anyway...

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

why would media matters do this????

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

I've been seeing that message on and off (something went wrong) for a few months now. Feels like the platform is held up together by hopes and prayers
