The time is now to delete your social media and connect on private communication channels with likeminded people. Use trusted vpns to connect to sites like lemmy. The next steps are crystal clear:

  1. It's now illegal to publicly shit talk the administration, fuck the first amendment
  2. Use the massive massive budget assigned to ice to identify users who don't fall in line
  3. Anyone who is so unpatriotic to publicly disavow the trump regime has their citizenship revoked
  4. ice concentration camps for those newly non-citizen "immigrants"
  5. Everyone else "internalized authoritarianism" s themselves into submission

When nobody speaks out it will feel as though there is no hope and you'll feel alone. Keep safe communication channels open now so you don't have to fear later.

Vpns may be made illegal, but there are other ways to anonymize communication.

We have fireflies in our area but one of our neighbors sprays for mosquitoes (huge fan on the back of their truck and they drive around the neighborhood) and every year I notice the fireflies leave (die) when that starts.

Are You Even Human by Thundamoo. Really liked it, it is incomplete and may not be popular enough to tempt the author to conclude it on royal road

Pilot by will wight, incredible author, one of my favorite in fantasy today, but the book was one of his weaker entries imo

I'm surprised this is the first I've heard of this, are local fish hatcheries not sustainable?

Don't get me wrong, journalism should be a paid profession in a capitalist society, just pointing out the irony (90s Alanis Morissette style).

While I do indeed hate paywalls and find modern journalism fundamentally broken, I recognize their utility.

I love the freedom of nihilism, our brain chemicals are the only thing making us happy or sad, they create morals, love, hate.

You know what, I guess in a way hormones are more human than the brain itself?

Apathy prevents violence, and will continue to do so until the vast majority of people are in constant pain and fear with absolutely no alternative. When the people have nothing to lose they will act.

Even the most politically aware and ethically minded among us can't drop their daily lives in favor of standing up for the oppressed when standing on the razor edge of working every day to avoid homelessness.

Those who are not on the razor edge have "more to lose" by toppling the system

When we're home, we want people to think we're away. Like solicitors or uninvited guests

When we're away we want people to think we're home. Like robbers or vandals

I could always use a custom agent, but the extra features in chatgpt are nice. Why does it have to act like a third rate lackey trying to get on their boss's good side?

A few friends got emails today about Mass General moving forward with layoffs this week. Anyone you know affected already?

Artificial Superintelligence, AI systems that are more intelligent than humans across every domain, may or may not be coming soon

What could we do to prepare now for a future where it has arrived?

I have been considering:

  • starting local community groups
  • updating my investment strategies to be more resilient to market disruption
  • diversifying personal income streams
  • staying up to date with the latest news and learn to better use the latest tools/technology
  • upgrading personal skills towards the harder to replace industries

It's a bit difficult to imagine a truly "safe" way of life. Barring UBI and more progressive taxes it seems like it may be quite challenging for the average person to exist comfortably.

Some industries that are already impacted at the level of technology we already have

  • programming
  • ui design
  • creative writing
  • technical writing
  • customer support
  • graphic art
  • data analysis

I think almost every other industry is at risk of significant disruption. A capitalism based society will always stray toward the cheapest option, "if AI can take customer support calls for $1/day and customer satisfaction doesn't dip, why would I pay a person $150/day?"

I wonder if there's anyone out there who can't see their nose at all?
