The entire "different time" excuse is meant to apply to media, not people! Most texts written in the 1700s that include references to people of color are probably going to at least use outdated language, if not straight up racist perspectives, but because it was a different time you're supposed to acknowledge that it can still impart valuable ideas so long as you take it in context. Taking that scholarly technique and trying to apply it to ~~crotchety assholes~~ real people spouting hate makes me want to explode

lmao i wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that your instance defederated them. it's 90% of what they post

don't count on it. back before i switched instances i had to read hexbear users unironically praising china's "democratic dictatorship." highly recommend reading the wikipedia article on it; it's actually incredibly uninformative.

edit, to be clear, it's a lot of describing the history of the phrase and vague ideas about the interactions between "the bourgeoisie, proletariat, and economy," with nothing at all about how it actually is implemented into the government and differs from a regular dictatorship in any way. probably because it doesn't. here

maybe, or maybe there's some species ism happening at the upper tiers of starfleet. there are SO many species and people in the lower echelons, it makes no sense for the admirals to be so homogeneous. plus the admirals being bigoted aholes would play into how 99% of the admirals we meet are egotistical douches who seem to be working directly against the very ideals starfleet claims to represent

i like how apparently you can just post as many reviews as you want

have we ever even seen a non-human admiral? the president isn't human but it seems like the entirety of starfleet brass is

I think star wars just put less thought into what galactic distances look like. Han says the falcon can do "0.5 past light speed" but then they move from tattooine in the outer rim to the core world of alderaan in like a couple of days, max.

"couldn't afford not to?" guarantee the restaurant was losing money by staying open to serve those customers. The hourly wage of the waiters, cooks, dishwashers, everyone except maybe the hostess, is all going to cost more than anything a single table could possibly order

Grant's wrong, but I'm pretty sure that particular law is a myth.

Decided to spend more time than is healthy on this. Using a search engine, I can only find shady websites or forum posts with no sources making the claim. The only Memphis-specific traffic laws I can find are here, under titles 11 and 12; if there were any such rule it would probably be under title 11, chapter 11-16, rules of the road. I've spent some time looking through Tennessee's traffic laws as well and can't find anything there. Possible I missed it, but I'm done trying!

kicking her off the ship for emotional outbursts that... saved the ship. logic, huh? honestly i got the sense that she wasn't really emotional even by vulcan standards, she was just smarter than everyone else on that ship. they berated her constantly for it until she finally gave a sarcastic reply so that they could give her the boot
