I really like librarything, but the app doesn't have all the features the website has. In general it's great for cataloging your own books and crowdsourcing information but doesn't have the community aspect, although the website does have message boards.

I tried storygraph briefly, but didn't keep up with it. It felt like a chore to me at the time.

I'm intrigued by BookWyrm though, and am interested to see what others say about it. Haven't tried it yet but definitely considering it.

Nice! Thanks for the review! I'm surprised we don't have more cereal companies/manufacturers in Canada.

This is new to me and I had no idea what I was doing at first.

Ooh, somehow I missed this comment! Excited to hear that it's being considered!

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but....

As kids (living in the interior of BC) we did Easter egg hunts, but I don't think we did Easter goody baskets.

As an adult living in Saskatchewan I have a coworker who makes huge Easter baskets for her grandkids.

It could be a regional thing, or a religious thing, but some people just love going all-out on things.

Edit: just watched the video and I don't know anyone who makes Easter baskets like that....those are extreme. Usually it's dollarama stuff I think.

Hardbite chips. So many flavors and they're all so delicious. My fave (so far) are the Wild Onion and Yogurt, but the Wasabi and Ranch are a close second.

I'm impressed, but also at that price I might have to live in it. Luckily it's big enough to live in. 🤣

Wait, what? Electric Hummer? My mind is blown.

I drive a tiny car now, but when I was a teenager I thought Hummers were the coolest, except for how much fuel they burned.

I think that says AL(as in Albert, alphonzo, etc)

I could be wrong, but I don't think it's A.I.

Edit: nevermind I didn't scroll down to the end where there is a disclaimer about A.I. usage.

So you're right after all,my apologies.

If not, are there any plans to set one up in the near future?

I'm new to the Fediverse, but I'm loving it so far, and i'm ready to ditch Facebook/meta... Have been toying with the idea of setting up a Friendica account. I'd love to continue with Fedican if possible, but I am also open to suggestions for other instances if Fedican is not an option.

Cheers!

I just read Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel , and it's living rent free in my brain.

It was such a powerful book in so many ways. I loved the way the different storylines and characters were tied together, some intricately and some just loosely, as well as the multiple perspectives, timelines, and storylines.

I believe it was originally suggested to me as a book similar to the TV show LOST(2004-2010) and it did satisfy that quite well.

Other books that I have read and enjoyed in a similar vein include:

  • The Silo trilogy by High Howey ( Wool, Shift, and Dust)
  • Wayward Pines series by Blake Crouch (Pines, Wayward, and The Last Town)
  • Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh
  • MaddAddam Trilogy by Margaret Atwood (Oryx & Crake, the Year of the Flood, and MaddAddam)

Does anyone have any book suggestions for something similar I should look for?

Thanks!

Following Moe’s remarks, NDP Leader Carla Beck said it was about time that he woke up to Trump’s threats.

[Emphasis mine]

I couldn't agree more.

In any mode but light mode the quoted text bar is nearly invisible which makes makes reading posts with quoted text a challenge.

I would love an option to change the color of the quoted text bar, or barring that, it would be nice if the default color of the bar were easier to see on dark mode.

Thanks!

Sorry if this has been asked before I couldn't figure out how to search the community either.

Thanks for your help on either of the two issues! 😂

Edit: it seems I needed to subscribe before I could search, and it took me a minute figure out how to subscribe....

Anyway I'm learning. Still looking for a way to auto-sort by new if that's an option.

Cheers

Edit again: I figured it out. It was in the settings all along. Might as well leave this post up in case any one else has this question.

Solution

Settings > general > posts > default sort

And

Settings > general > comments > default sort

Just came across this while scrolling pixelfed!

A Canadian hosted search engine.

I have been using Ecosia, but will have to try this out.

At present 50% of the company's chocolates in Canada came from the U.S., and the rest from Europe.

"We are able to source 100% from Europe," Lechner told Reuters.

Lindt, whose products include Lindor chocolate balls, has already built up inventories in Canada from the U.S. to give it time to change its supply chain, which it expects to complete by the middle of the year.

Chief Financial Officer Martin Hug said it would be slightly more expensive to transport chocolate to Canada from Europe but it would cost less than if tariffs were imposed.

I would love to see more companies move in this direction. It's not perfect, but at least they are trying, and I think that's great.
