China has long passed the point of no return towards a dystopian authoritarian panopticon. I just don’t see how they can get out of it at this point. It’s permanent unless destroyed from the outside. WW3 is their only long term hope. What a nightmare.

Just to be clear, in your view, voters were presented with a choice between a candidate who was somewhat to the right of them, and another candidate who was waaay to the right of them, and the majority voted for the latter. You’re right, this makes perfect sense. You’ve got it all figured out.

Ironic that you chide me for being ignorant and having unwarranted confidence in my opinion, when twice you’ve claimed that the average American voter is to the left of mainstream Democratic pols. That is one of the dumbest theories I’ve heard in a while.

For sure, there aren’t enough proper tankies to make a difference, but the Gaza issue became so mainstream, there may well have been a critical mass of one-issue voters to throw the election. These people (most of them probably fairly young) may not have an opinion one way or the other on China, but they believe the same far left propaganda about “both sides” being equally bad.

There’s some truth to what you say, but the labels are a little off. The ones who didn’t vote for Harris don’t call themselves “liberals”, and they’re certainly not Dems. They are the far left, or Tankies, and they hate liberals. These days, they are one-issue voters on the issue of Israel-Gaza, and they only ascribe agency to the Democrats, who they blame for everything while pretty much ignoring the country’s fascist slide under then GOP. They wouldn’t vote for Talarico or Crockett.

Christians tying themselves so closely to this one repulsive political party may end up driving down member recruitment and retention, even long after the MAGA project has died.

For our American friends, yes it looks like “LEE-sester”, but it’s pronounced “Throatwobbler Mangrove.”

That’s awesome. Your coworker sounds like a really cool person. I just don’t think they are representative of most Christians in this country. If anything, your friend is the “Christian”, while the congregation they left behind are Christians.

The people who chose this man as their champion are not responsive to shame.
