I currently have a puny 380 tabs open that consume 42GB RAM on my MBP '21 Max whatever (with 64GB total, shared with the GPU).

I have gone through most troubleshooting and it's clear that the unload mechanism isn't achieving it's goal (I mean, aside from an absolutely psycho amount of tabs I am hell-bent on having to "come back to later"). The reason that these tabs are open and have been loaded is that I've been transferring my other browser tabs over and setting up my Containers & Sidebar Panels, so each tab would have to be open within the last week.

Question: Most of resources I've found online lead me to believe that all I need is to modify browser.low_commit_space_threshold_mb. But it's nowhere to be found. about:config on MacOS is just returning an empty value and offers me to set it. Dare I? Would it actually work?

And yes, the browser.tabs.unloadOnLowMemory is set to true and browser.tabs.min_inactive_duration_before_unload is a default 600000 (which is in ms IIRC, so it's 10 minutes)

My main issue is that even manually triggering the Unload from about:unloads doesn't help the situation, and it can't be that all of the tabs are using WebRTC or are somehow considered to be active? Can it be a side-effect of Sidebery extension? Surely not? Many of the tabs list "Last Accessed" datetime between 3-9 days ago and still have the Base Weight of 0, so that part probably works, but Firefix decides not to unload them?

--
Random thought: It would really help if people wouldn't need to chase this. I assume that the way that MacOS handles RAM with it's swap and whole "memory pressure" is probably isn't the most simple thing to work around but unless I can fix this it'll be very difficult to consistently use, and I can imagine people less inclined to figure things out be easily turned off. And yes, I didn't use to have this problem with the other browser with just as mental number of tabs.

Day 9 of (finally) moving away from Chrome after Web Integrity API proposal is going swimmingly, as you can see.

I got an issue with youtube not recommending videos on firefox, i tried going to safe to see if it was an extension issue but it isn't, i tried in chrome if the recommendations was working and it did ( i did this when logged out). It just recommended the new trending videos that i don't like. I'm in firefox 116

Forgive if this is not going to be formatted well, I’m still very new here. Anyways

I run iOS 16 and Firefox 116. The problem is that sometimes all my tabs(even private one) randomly close. This is really annoying as I often open new tabs when skimming wikis. The only real answer I can think of is having too many tabs open, but this is ruled out since my most recent crash happend when I had 10 tabs opened. I really want to stop this from happening.

Thanks in advance!

I'd like a keyboard shortcut to act in the same way as the toobar button "show sidebars":

  • If the sidebar is open, it hides it

  • If the sidebar is closed, it opens to the last used sidebar

This page, Keyboard shortcuts - Perform common Firefox tasks quickly only describes how to toggle individual sidebars. History, bookmarks etc. So depending what is open you have to use unique shortcuts.

Is it possible?

I <3 FF but they are really stingy about the keyboard shortcuts.

I've been having issues with Firefox on certain sites like Nexusmods.

Whenever I get a notification on the bell on the website, I get an error " Connection Error: Try reloading the notifications" and it doesn't go away even if I reload. I have to mark all notifications as read with the Mark All as Read button to get the notifications to disappear.

Been having this issue for a while now, basically whenever I try to swap over to another account or log out of an existing account, it won't update. It'll refresh the page, but I'll still be on the same account. I've tried all the troubleshooting methods. it happens in safe mode, but doesn't happen in private window mode. If someone could help me figure out why this is happening that would be awesome!!

EDIT : If I change "set cookies" in the little padlock to "Allow for Session" then it works, but logs me out whenever I restart. updated setting

So i just checked in on Desktop Beta 117 and noticed that CBR is available in settings so i started to wonder if anyone has any clue if there are plans to implement this on the iPhone/iPad app?

I'm a web developer working on an app running in Docker on my MacBook. Chrome, Edge and Safari trust the self-signed certificate that has been imported into the Mac's root certificate store and have no security issues, but when I try and access the web app, I'm hit with "Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead" and the error code is MOZILLA_PKIX_ERROR_CA_CERT_USED_AS_END_ENTITY

I really miss Firefox, particularly the multi-account containers feature. What do I need to do so that Firefox will trust my certificate for my local web app?

You might not know it, but Firefox was once widely considered to be an innovative browser. It wasn’t just an alternative to Internet Explorer (and now Chrome). Firefox introduced honest-to-goodness new features that people loved and rely on to this day.

When I write something into the address-bar to "google it", it can often take 20 seconds to load the page. And if I simply click the address-bar again and click enter again, it will load right away.
I don't remember changing anything, so I wonder if it's just me.
I use Firefox Developer Edition 116, now actually 117 and the issue is still here.

I am subscribed to this community from Lemmy and the icon is broken. I don't even see it on ~~kbin.social~~ fedia.io. Let's get our favorite mascot back!

Here's what it looks like from lemmy.world:

EDIT: If the icon is working for you, either your browser or your instance may be caching the icon and thereby hiding the issue.

So, it's "migrate to Firefox because Google is doing more evil things to the web" day. Because of my need to remain constantly connected to my email, I configured Google Chrome to launch several pages at start up: my personal email, calendar, and drive, my university email, calendar, and drive, Facebook Messenger, and Messages by Google. I've found a way to configure Firefox to load these pages at browser start up, however this option also loads this set of pages every time I open a new FF window, which is sub-optimal as I like to keep the first window free of any other junk while using subsequent windows for browsing. Might anyone have any suggestions as to how I might get the desired functionality (launch Firefox and get a window with the above tabs, but not have them re-spawn every time I open future FF windows)? Thanks.

I installed Firefox Beta on MacOs, and noticed that the icon is the normal icon, not the beta icon. Is that correct, or a bug?

Edit: I figured it out. It was caused by the User-Agent Switcher and Manager addon, I use it to switch user agents on one site. I switched it to whitelist mode in the settings and now it works.

Like when I try to log into chat.openai.com, I click the checkbox that I'm human and it just keeps reloading that checkbox without progressing the page. But when I open the tab in a Firefox container (which you can install with the Firefox Multi-Account container addon), it works.

I want it to work without a container open.

Personally, while I've been using Tab Session Manager for years, I've had lots of issues with it. There have been a few times where all my sessions would be completely wiped after restarting Firefox or having it crash, which is why I have the backup folder setting enabled. Very occasionally within the past few years, but much more often lately, when I'd try to restore sessions, all of which consist of 100s of tabs, I'd find a bunch of tabs missing, being replaced with blank new tab pages. Also note that this has happened across different computers and Firefox installations.

Looking at the changes / commits made to the extension since its last update made last September, the developer has only updated the readme page and a few other non-code related things. there are hundreds of unaddressed issues on the repo.

It seems like I should really move away from it, what are alternative extensions you would recommend?
