Thanks to @[email protected], I just had an epiphany about why centralization of the the world wide web happened:

Web browsers like #Chrome and #Firefox are stuck in an old paradigm of webpages -- which is an ancient way of viewing the web.

But that's not how the actual web works anymore. The real web is no longer about pages but about feeds, and the folks building web browsers -- Google, Apple, Microsoft, and Mozilla -- still don't realize this.

Even worse, feed functionality that used to exist natively in web browsers no longer exists. For example, it used to be that when you visited a webpage, web browsers would detect an #RSS feed -- giving you the option to subscribe. But starting with #Chrome, this feature was removed from modern web browsers.

However, that doesn't mean feeds have disappeared from the web. No, many have coalesced into walled gardens like #Twitter and #Instagram. And they're downright hostile towards access if you do not have an account on their services.

But that doesn't mean feeds have disappeared. Quite the opposite: they're more prevalent than ever with forums, podcasts, video, and more. They're still here, just harder to see simply because web browsers are stuck on that webpage paradigm.

So @[email protected] is essentially a web browser, not with a webpage paradigm, but a webfeed paradigm where -- instead of inputting URLs into an address bar -- it grabs feeds across from RSS, #podcast, and #socialweb feeds.

And frankly, this approach is brilliant. I use #Surf every day, and it's literally the first thing I check when I wake up in the morning.

With Surf, we've moved away from mere Fediverse clients. Now we have a genuine web browser for feeds!

Za 3 miesiace konczy mi sie subskrypcja na #ClickUp i...
dzisiaj podjalem decyzje, ze przenosze sie na #Obsidian

Wiekszosc notatek juz przenioslem, znalazlem #rozszerzenie do #Zen, ktore zapisuje zakladki, ostatnie co mi zostalo to opracowac system list ToDo, ktory mam w #ClickUp.ie

Czemu przenosiny?

#Firefox 134.0.2 is out now to fix a regression in Firefox 134 where anchored links in HTML framesets pointing to local files didn't work, an issue in developer tools preventing the resending of network requests when debugging extensions, an issue where data consumption from service workers may unexpectedly halt, and the crash reporter not being displayed for some localized builds https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/134.0.2/releasenotes/

Does anyone know if there is a way to make the Web browser (Firefox-based in my case) ignore audio volume control commands coming from a site? Youtube has its automatic levels thing that it's forcing on me and I can't even disable it. (It's disabled and grayed out, but still happening.) Every time I open a new video it has changed the application volume to what they've arbitrarily decided is correct (but meanwhile the player in the page is still set to 100%.) I have a volume control I can reach with ease, so I don't need their "help."

I know there is an extension or a script to disable Youtube doing this, but it is my understanding that we have to use as few extensions as possible to reduce fingerprinting...

#Firefox 134.0.1 is out now to fix a startup crash affecting some users upgrading from Firefox 133, an issue where search engine selection menus and context menus could be broken if a user had previously reverted to an earlier version, and UI hangs happening on YouTube and Google Docs in some situations https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/134.0.1/releasenotes/

Crossposted from a community manager's post: https://reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/1hwd6u7/join/_mozilla/_to/_test/_the/_new/_firefox/_address/_bar/

Hi r/firefox 👋,

The address bar is one of the most prominent areas in any browser, and Firefox is no exception. Understanding its importance, the Firefox team has been working on a set of complementary features designed to improve discoverability and security of the Firefox address bar.

With this set of features landing in Firefox Beta 135, we need your expertise to help us test these enhancements by participating in this campaign, which will be live on January 9th!

The top 5 contributors will each receive a $50 voucher to shop at Mozilla’s swag stores as a thank-you for your efforts.

Whether Matt Mullenweg likes it or not, #Wpengine does not owe #Wordpress *any percentage of money. Being that Wordpress is opensource.

Apparently there was a time himself where Mullenweg himself even acknowledged that this was true. What has come of the #CEO of Wordpress in these modern times.

Apparently, he wants Wpengine to contribute to Wordpress, but if Wordpress is opensource, they don't *have to contribute, but they can. That's the point of opensource. If you want paid that badly it shouldn't be an opensource project. Or find another way to get paid. Like he could try #ads or something it doesn't have to be like this.

Imagine if #Mozilla #Firefox asked every single browser #fork to pay them, and to contribute, and that they had to do so. Or every #google #Chromium fork.

What he is asking for is anti opensource. If he wants capitalism, he should be maintaining software with that type of licensing.

Solution: I just needed to disable Firefox Color in about:addons.

I set a theme with Firefox Color, I tried changing the theme in settings to light or dark but neither work. I'm wondering if there are other ways to do so in Firefox that I could try. I'm on zen browser which is why it may not have worked.

Solved: It turns out I needed to add https:// to the redirect URL. I now edited the redirect to be this:

{
    "createdBy": "Redirector v3.5.3",
    "createdAt": "2024-12-25T00:25:04.487Z",
    "redirects": [
        {
            "description": "sh.reddit.com submission page",
            "exampleUrl": "https://old.reddit.com/r/firefox/submit?selftext=true",
            "exampleResult": "https://sh.reddit.com/r/firefox/submit?selftext=true",
            "error": null,
            "includePattern": "https://.*?reddit.com/((r|u|user)/.*?/submit.*)",
            "excludePattern": "",
            "patternDesc": "",
            "redirectUrl": "https://sh.reddit.com/$1",
            "patternType": "R",
            "processMatches": "noProcessing",
            "disabled": false,
            "grouped": false,
            "appliesTo": [
                "main_frame"
            ]
        },
    ]
}

Using the Redirector addon, I wrote a redirect from a Reddit submit page to the new new Reddit submit page but it doesn't work when I go to https://old.reddit.com/r/firefox/ and click "submit text", it just takes me to https://old.reddit.com/r/firefox/submit?selftext=true despite the link working in the example box.

Reproduction: Install the addon, save the following as a json file, click on addon icons and select "edit redirects", then click import to select the json file.

{
"createdBy": "Redirector v3.5.3",
"createdAt": "2024-12-22T15:43:42.356Z",

A few days ago, I was complaining about Firefox on Android draining battery in the background even though it was set not to run in the background. After more than a week of using Iceraven, this issue has not occurred. Maybe it's too soon to celebrate, but...
