Connect for Lemmy App

With RIF is Fun, if content cannot be submitted, or the user decides not to post yet, they can save their text as a draft in local storage. Later, they can retrieve said draft, edit the contents, and post it, if they'd like.

Would Connect entertain the idea of implementing drafts? I think it would be even more useful with Lemmy, because most Lemmy instances are operated by hobbyists without SLOs, and I have observed problems with posting much more frequently than Reddit.

Sometimes, when I submit a comment, the submission runs into an error, and the form disappears. This means that I lose my text altogether.

It would be great to ensure that content gets submitted correctly prior to closing forms!

This would be a local app-managed setting that adds a toggle to each community.

When enabled, this toggle allows all of the posts from that community to be combined with all other communities of identical name, from other instances under a common category name.

Because this is a per-community toggle, this lets you filter out communities of identical names from an instance you may be on, that you want to exclude from this category.

For example, enabling this setting on the identically named (and themed) communities of [email protected] and [email protected] would combined all content from both communities together under a single category called Fediverse.

If there were another instance with a community of the same name but of a different topic, then leaving this toggle disabled for that community instance would exclude it from this category.

Categories can then be treated like communities in the subscribed community list, under a separate section just like how communities are split between All/Local.

As an additional bonus, the app could ask the user if they would like to consolidate identically named communities. It would then provide a list of these identically named communities, with checkmarks beside them to quickly toggle this setting.

To reduce spam, if a user wanted to submit a post to this category, they would have to specifically select the community instance they wanted to post to.

Lastly, if this idea of more app-managed consolidation is taken to the extreme, then perhaps allowing users to combine multiple accounts together across each instance could be possible. Where even if two instances defederate, if the user has an account on both instances, they can still view the content as normal. Perhaps this could be called global mode, where accounts only interact with the specific instance they exist on, but combines local feeds from each account/instance together.

I had written a rather lengthy response to a post, and put quite a bit of effort in my argument. When I submitted the reply I got a "language not allowed" error, and everything I wrote was lost.

I think an error when posting something should not result in the screen changing back and losing everything written. The error should be displayed and the user allowed to fix the problem or somehow allowed to save the post locally, e.g. by copying and pasting it somewhere else.

Others are either too slow, are missing key features or just don't feel quite right. I've got Summit/Thunder/Jeroba/Voyager/Liftoff all installed, and I check their updates as they come in, but I always go back to Connect ❤ 🇨🇦

Is anyone else having the same problem? The app was updated three days ago, but yesterday it refused work at all. It crashes at startup. Nothing loads up. My android is updated at 13.

Coming from baconreader one of the most useful things for me was the ability to curate a few different "front page" feed. I think Reddit had multi-Reddits which this was based on.

Also being able to set favorite communities made it possible to easily navigate these and other communities I liked to view a lot.

There are communities that i love when I am looking for something specific but I don't necessarily want them in my front page.

Sometimes when I'm trying to navigate the side pane, Connect only gives me a couple of options. One of which is a huge SIGN OUT button that I've accidentally clicked a half dozen times already

I don't think we even need a sign out button in that menu - imo it should be in a sub menu - but if it's gonna stay there could you shrink it way down?

Padding between posts seems to be bugged on v1.0.106 making out difficult to see when one post ends and another starts.

I can't seem to see posts that are below 0 points.

If I respond to a person, and their post gets downvoted, mine also becomes contextually unviewable.

Same seems to happen if I respond to someone and they delete their post.

Is this a connect feature? Where can I change this? I don't want posts to be hidden unless I hide it manually. I always want to be able to revisit my posts in the threads they were posted in.

Super low-priority change request but sometimes the notifications and status bar blur (like in the attached photo) with the titles and photos and obscures both at the same time. Would love to have an opaque bar to keep the notification bar separate.

Recently I've had trouble with double posting. I swear I used to type my words, hit the airplane and I was done. Was another screen added? It seems like I used to be taken back to the comment list and now it puts me in the editor and I get confused. I think that the comment hasn't posted so I hit the airplane again and double post. Anyone else having issues?

For some reason I can no longer see the Next\Previous comment bar. I have disabled\re-enabled show comment bar and comment navigator. Is this handled somewhere else?

Hello, just picked up the Connect app and I've been enjoying it the most of any Lemmy app so far. However, I've been getting the following strange behavior, which may be a bug:

Viewing a specific post (https://lemmy.world/post/2104570) shows that there are (at time of writing) 76 total comments, but actually scrolling through reveals only ~37-40, even after expanding collapsed ones. Navigating directly to this post in a web browser reveals more comments than are shown in the app (still less than 76, around 65 or so, but I assume this is some other bug with Lemmy). Reloading the thread does not fix it and this has persisted across 2 days by my checks. I don't have any instances or users blocked, and I don't think that blocking communities would lead to this behavior (I haven't blocked the one in question). Am I missing something?

It seems that I'm unable through either ineptitude or issue to view long pictures. Help?

Recently I've noticed that there's a slight delay between tapping on a post to view it and when it actually opens. I realized that this must be to support double-tap voting, as the app has to wait for the full double-tap timing window after your first tap to determine if you were going to perform a double-tap to vote or if you actually wanted to view the post.

I'd really appreciate a setting to disable this feature as I find the slight delay when opening every post to be very annoying.

I have noticed that only a small handful of gifs will play automatically and within the app while scrolling through a community, but the vast, vast majority of the time a link is shown and you have to navigate away from the feed / lemmy (in the built in browser) to view them.

I thought it might be a limitation of lemmy / the fediverse until I saw the few above mentioned gifs.

Is the playing of (nearly) all gifs within Connect something that can happen and will come in time?

Exit: wait on 1.0.106 its a toggle

I've subscribed to the beta testing program so this is not likely to affect most of users, but after updating to 1.0.101 (yesterday) I can't use any swipe action on posts any more, neither in card view nor list view nor fullwidth. It gives a double haptic feedback, as if the action was sent and cancelled immediately afterwards. Saving, upvoting and replying work seamlessly from the post buttons. Restarting/logging in again did not help (and the fact that the actions work with the buttons seem to indicate that my account is entitled to upvote/reply to that post). For comments everything works fine though.

I hate this feature with a burning passion. It makes it hard to zoom in and move around. It's slow. And when my screen dims while I read I can't wake it up without closing the image.

Please let me disable this feature in settings

I have recently been having an issue where filters are applied, not by me, while I'm browsing in Connect. Entire communities are showing no posts with the message, "Empty because all posts are being filtered". There are no filters turned on in the settings that I can see. Many comments are also hidden due to filters, including my own. I have checked in using the browser interface and everything is normal there.

Is there a setting I am missing, or do I have another issue with the app?

Edit: Issue solved, apparently I had blocked lemmy.world though I'm not sure how.

The active Sort method is displayed in the Top bar, second line. To improve visibility, it would be helpful to have an option to select one of the action colors to display the active Sort method.

Alternatively, the active Sort method could be moved next to the Sort selector icon on the right section of the Top bar.

Two related questions. When I select an inbox reply sometimes it takes me to the comment context (great!) bi other times it takes me to some other random comments on the same thread and I can't even find my original comment. The other question is how the heck do I search the comments? The search function doesn't seem to do this?

Gives error "person_not_found". This is a local conversation. I tried adding the domain but didn't help. Using the beta.
