Four members of the Bundestag from the Green Party have appealed to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to increase funding for aid to Ukraine.

Source: European Pravda, citing Bild

Details: MPs Robin Wagener, Sara Nanni, Sebastian Schäfer and Anton Hofreiter are calling on the German chancellor to "adjust the relevant budget items to support Ukraine and increase them for the next fiscal year".

In view of the latest Russian attacks, Green politicians are also demanding greater German assistance in the field of air defence, without which "Russian dictatorship over Ukraine will become more likely".

Quote from the MPs’ appeal: "The situation is critical. While Putin openly confirms that he will not negotiate and is fully committed to his military goals, while Putin terrorises the civilian population with increasingly large-scale air strikes, the US government refuses to provide the aid it has already promised."

Details: In the letter, the Green Party MPs also reminded Merz that it was thanks to their votes in the previous Bundestag that steps were taken to significantly increase defence spending.

The publication writes that in this way, the MPs gave the chancellor "room for manoeuvre to support Ukraine", which "has not yet been exhausted".

Background:

Under the previous government led by Olaf Scholz, Germany approved an additional €3 billion in military aid for Ukraine in 2025 and a further €8.3 billion for the years 2026-2029.German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said in June that Germany would provide Ukraine with additional military aid worth €1.9 billion.

The editorial board of the American tabloid The New York Post has published an appeal to US President Donald Trump calling for the resumption of all military aid to Ukraine.

Source: European Pravda with reference to The New York Post

Details: The New York Post editorial points out that after Trump called on Vladimir Putin to stop his aggression, he carried out the largest attack on Kyiv since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Quote from the NYP: "So why, Mr President, is your administration punishing Ukraine."

Details: They also recall the Pentagon's decision to suspend the supply of air defence equipment to Ukraine and ask, "Why are we threatening to abandon her?"

The NYP editorial team emphasises that the belief that military aid to Ukraine somehow harms the United States and is not in its interests "couldn’t be further from the truth".

Quote from the NYP: "Putin is willing to spend the blood of his people in a last grasp for empire. If we let him succeed, if we help him succeed, it won’t just threaten Europe. It will tell China that our alliances are fickle, our patience short."

Details: The journalists emphasise that the Kremlin leader understands only force and "will continue to insult and ignore you if the United States doesn’t commit to Kyiv’s defense".

Quote from the NYP: "The fall of Ukraine is not a disaster that can be blamed on someone else, or explained away as inconsequential. It would destabilise the world, weaken America and reflect negatively on your presidency. Don’t walk away."

Details: The New York Post is considered Donald Trump's favourite newspaper, and it is served to him every morning before he starts work in the White House. The tabloid is known for consistently supporting the current US president.

Background: Earlier, the New York Post published another editorial in support of Ukraine, and it directly called on Trump not to trust Putin in February.

BlackRock Inc., one of the world's largest investment companies, has stopped looking for investors for a Ukraine recovery fund in early 2025 after Donald Trump won the US presidential election.

Source: Bloomberg

Details: BlackRock decided to suspend talks with investors about a Ukraine recovery investment fund in January 2025, following Trump's victory in the US presidential election, due to a lack of interest amid growing uncertainty about Ukraine's future.

Bloomberg reports that the US government was notably absent from the fund's sponsors in December 2024.

The Ukraine Development Fund was on track to raise at least US$500 million from countries, development banks and other donors, and US$2 billion from private investors.

The fund was supposed to raise at least US$15 billion for Ukraine's recovery.

It was to be presented at a conference on Ukraine's recovery in Rome next week (7-11 July). Bloomberg reported that the fund was to be backed by the governments of Germany, Italy, and Poland, citing sources.

Bloomberg reports that a BlackRock spokesperson said the company completed its free advisory work on the Ukraine Development Fund in 2024 and is not currently involved in "any active mandates" with the Ukrainian government.

Bloomberg added that France is working on a proposal for a fund to replace the cancelled BlackRock initiative.

Russian forces have occupied the settlements of Zelenyi Kut and Novoukrainka near the administrative border between Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and Donetsk Oblast and are trying to advance further.

Source: DeepState

Details: The villages are located near Dachne, where the Russians are actively trying to break through the Ukrainian defences.

Quote: "The situation in the vicinity of Dachne is dynamic and tense.

In order to prevent advances to Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and the occupation of the village, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attracted additional resources, but due to the numerical superiority and continuous assaults by small groups of infantry, the enemy advances through the defensive units of Ukrainian fighters, which has not been a novelty for a long time now."

Details: Analysts note that Russia has a "big PR rationale to launch a propaganda machine" with its advance into Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. But even for Ukraine, this is an "important and principled position" to prevent the Russians from crossing the administrative border.

Quote: "The situation is difficult, and the conditions on the line of combat, existing problems and the ‘infinite’ number of the Russians complicate this situation even more.

On this front, we will still see many similar discussions, because the Russians have made rapid advances near Yalta, which is also located on the administrative border, as well as neat Zirka, Piddubne, Tolstoi, Shevchenko, Voskresenka and other settlements".
