A total of 38% of working Russians lack a financial buffer in case they lose their job.

Source: The Moscow Times, an independent Amsterdam-based news outlet, citing a study by the job search service SuperJob

Quote: "Among those who have savings, 13% could live on them for less than a month, 24% for one to two months, 12% for three to six months and 7% for six months to a year. Only 6% of the respondents said that their savings would allow them to live without a salary for over a year."

Details: An earlier survey by the company Aktion Buhgalteriya (Aktion Accounting) found that one in six Russian companies (16.5%) plans to reduce employee salaries within a year, with 3.6% intending to implement cuts within one to three months.

One in four companies (27.6%) reported automating processes, and in 17.7% of cases employees were assigned fewer tasks. However, 93.3% of companies had not cut salaries over the past two to three years.

The Moscow Times also reports that working Russians have begun to be stripped of bonuses and cash rewards en masse. One in three employees who previously received bonuses said these payments had been reduced or discontinued over the past year.

According to a study by recruitment service hh.ru and the Evolution pension fund, 20% of surveyed workers complained about lower bonuses, while 9% said they had stopped receiving them altogether. A quarter of respondents said bonuses made up 10–30% of their salary, 15% reported bonuses of around 10% and almost the same number said their bonuses ranged from 30% to 50%.

In June 2025, the UN Monitoring Mission has recorded the highest number of civilian casualties and fatalities in Ukraine in the past three years of full-scale invasion, with 232 civilians killed and 1,343 injured.

Source: UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU)

Quote: "The figures for June confirmed this year’s worsening trend, with 6,754 civilians killed or injured in the first half of 2025, a sharp 54 per cent rise from the corresponding period in 2024, when 4,381 civilian casualties were documented. Overall, the past six months saw a 17 per cent increase in civilian deaths and a 64 per cent rise in injuries."

Details: The mission noted that Russia launched ten times more missile strikes and loitering munition attacks in June 2025 than in the same month of 2024. Civilian casualties were recorded in at least 16 oblasts and in Kyiv.

The sharp rise in casualties is attributed to Russia’s use of long-range missiles and drones on urban areas, the increasingly destructive nature of such attacks and their growing frequency.

The mission added that the widespread use of short-range drones has also led to fatal consequences in hromadas near the line of contact [a hromada is an administrative unit designating a village, several villages, or a town, and their adjacent territories – ed.].

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, the UN has documented at least 13,580 civilian deaths, including 716 children, and 34,115 civilian injuries, including 2,173 children.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov proposed a "new and different approach" to the Russo-Ukrainian war during their meeting.

Source: Rubio on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit, as cited by Sky News and reported by European Pravda

Details: Rubio said he had a "frank, important conversation" with Lavrov and stressed that Washington "needs to see a roadmap" for how the war in Ukraine can be brought to an end.

He noted that Russia presented a "new and a different approach" during today’s talks, without specifying what it entails.

"I wouldn't characterise it as something that guarantees peace, but it's a concept I will take back to the president today," Rubio said.

He noted that US President Donald Trump is disappointed that the Russian side has not shown "more flexibility" on Ukraine.

"We understand these things take time and patience, but we're frustrated [that] more progress hasn't been made," he added.

Background:

On 4 July, Trump and Russian ruler Vladimir Putin held a phone call. After the conversation, the US president noticeably shifted his stance on military assistance to Ukraine and his rhetoric about the Kremlin leader.Notably, Trump expressed doubt – perhaps for the first time – that the Russian ruler seeks peace and said that "We get a lot of bulls**t thrown at us by Putin".

Source: Zelenska at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome on 10 July

Details: Zelenska said that, after countless sleepless nights caused by Russian attacks, many Ukrainians experience "fatigue, tension and despair". She emphasised that the most important element in rebuilding a country is its people, warning that without them, the country becomes "a memorial".

Quote: "Destruction is not only a physical concept. It is also a social one, manifesting as hardship, security threats and mental distress. It can spread far beyond the battlefield and affect everyone. And it already has."

Details: Zelenska also highlighted the need for rehabilitation services in Ukraine. She reported that, as of 2025, the country has 11,000 rehabilitation specialists – seven times more than in 2022. Zelenska added that rehabilitation professionals have provided assistance to more than 600,000 Ukrainians over the past six months.

"When people arrive at hospitals after another Russian strike, they suffer severe injuries – blast wounds, burns, crushed limbs," she said. "Saving their lives alone is not enough. We must help them live fully again."

Background: In 2024, a sociological survey by Gradus Research showed that 77% of Ukrainians reported feeling stressed and extremely nervous. Another 52% admitted to experiencing anxiety and emotional strain. And 47% reported low mood and disturbed sleep.

Russia is hiring migrants from outside the European Union to commit crimes, spread fear and undermine trust in national governments.

Source: annual report for 2024 of the Czech intelligence service (BIS), cited by Politico, as reported by European Pravda

Details: Czech intelligence officers stated that Russia is using Telegram to recruit potential agents to carry out various criminal activities, such as filming military bases or logistics hubs for military aid destined for Ukraine, or committing acts of arson.

The BIS noted that these actions, in addition to their primary goals of gathering information or causing damage, are also aimed at inflicting psychological harm.

Quote: "This includes weakening the cohesion of Western societies, spreading fear and uncertainty, undermining public trust in the state’s ability to protect its citizens, and increasing pressure to scale back support for Ukraine in its defence against Russian aggression."

Details: Czech intelligence emphasised that in many cases the recruited agents do not know they are working for Russia, as they are hired through intermediaries.

In addition, the BIS highlighted that Moscow also spreads its influence through the Russian Orthodox Church in Czechia, which is fully loyal to the Kremlin.

Background:

Since 2022, Czechia has maintained its own list of individuals who support the Putin regime and imposes national sanctions against them. The list already includes the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Vladimir Gundyayev (Patriarch Kirill); Russian businessman Vladimir Yevtushenkov and his son Felix; Russia’s chief missile designer Boris Obnosov and Viktor Medvedchuk, Ukrainian businessman and pro-Russian politician to whose daughter Putin is godfather.Last year, Czechia declared Andrei Averyanov wanted. He was one of the highest-ranking GRU officers, responsible for the 2014 ammunition depot explosions in the town of Vrbětice. On 2 April, the Czech government added Belarusian "journalist" Nataliya Sudlyankova and her handler from Russian military intelligence, Aleksei Shavrov, to the national sanctions list.

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth did not inform the White House of his decision to halt arms supplies to Ukraine before it happened.

Source: CNN, citing its sources, as reported by European Pravda

Details: Five sources familiar with the situation surrounding the supply of American weapons to Ukraine said that Hegseth did not inform the White House that he had decided to pause arms deliveries to Ukraine.

Keith Kellogg, Trump's Special Envoy for Russia and Ukraine, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio also knew nothing about it and first heard about the situation from the press, according to one senior administration official and two other sources.

The sources said that this was the second time in a year that Hegseth had made a unilateral decision on weapons for Ukraine, which then baffled other national security officials. The three sources said that the first time this happened was in February, and the decision was quickly reversed.

When asked on Tuesday who made the decision, President Trump evaded the question with the phrase, "I don't know. Why don't you tell me?"

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt also avoided confirming or denying that it was Hegseth’s unilateral decision. She noted that the Pentagon had reviewed its stocks to ensure that all support going to foreign countries was in line with American interests and that Trump had decided to continue military aid to Ukraine. She also added that the president has complete confidence in the defence secretary.

Background:

Last week, it became known that the Pentagon had suspended the transfer of some artillery ammunition and air defence equipment to Ukraine, citing the need to preserve weapons to defend against other threats. However, on 7 July, Trump announced that the United States should send Ukraine defensive weapons. According to media reports, he told Zelenskyy in a phone conversation that he was not personally involved in the decision to halt supplies.Axios reported that Trump has ordered 10 Patriot air defence missiles to be sent to Ukraine and is also pressuring Germany to sell one of its Patriot batteries to Ukraine.

Czech President Petr Pavel has disagreed with the statement that Russia is currently "winning the war" against Ukraine.

Source: Pavel in an interview with BBC Ukraine, as reported by European Pravda

Details: President Pavel was asked for his assessment as a general regarding claims that Russia is winning the war based on the situation on the front lines.

In response to Russia's claim that they were winning, the Czech president said that victory looked different. He acknowledged that Russia had achieved some tactical successes and had managed to seize parts of Ukrainian territory, but noted that their advance had come at a high cost in terms of casualties and losses. He believed this was a very high price to pay for seizing land.

He went on to say that Ukrainian defenders are successfully holding the front line, particularly in difficult areas, while inflicting damage on the Russians.

Petr Pavel said that if the war continued at its current pace, it would last for years, adding that such a state of affairs was unacceptable for everyone.

He also shared his view on the balance of power between Russia and Ukraine in the war.

Source: Lecornu in an interview with French news magazine Valeurs actuelles, as reported by European Pravda

Details: Lecornu emphasised France’s concern over the development of Iran’s nuclear programme, particularly following recent strikes by Israel and the United States on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

When asked whether this was the reason Macron phoned Putin on 1 July, Lecornu responded, "Of course".

"The last time President Macron called Putin was in September 2022 concerning the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine – that is, in connection with nuclear energy," Lecornu said.

Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi has said that he received a detailed report from the new commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces (USF), Major Robert Brovdi, and discussed the results achieved by the USF.

Source: Oleksandr Syrskyi on Facebook

Quote from Syrskyi: "In June, every third enemy target – out of all those affected by the defence forces of Ukraine – is on the account of the Unmanned Systems Forces.

In total, over the previous month, the Unmanned Systems Forces groups hit more than 19,600 targets and destroyed 5,024. In particular, 88 Russian tanks, 129 armoured combat vehicles, 427 artillery systems and 31 multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS) were destroyed.

As for the enemy personnel, our USF groups have killed or wounded a total of more than 4,500 Russians. Of them, 2,548 have been killed."

 Robert Brovdi**Photo: Brovdi on Facebook

Details: Among the most effective subdivisions, Syrskyi named the following: Birds of Magyar, Phoenix, Achilles, Nemesis, Steppe Predators and Rarog regiments.

The commander-in-chief said that he fully supports the development of interceptor drones. "The more of them and trained crews we have, the deeper we echelon the main fronts, the calmer Ukrainians will sleep in rear cities," Syrskyi believes.

Quote: "At the same time, we see that the enemy is also not standing still, improving, enhancing the characteristics of its attack UAVs, changing tactics, increasingly using fibre optics, artificial intelligence and machine vision for FPV and designing Geran drones with a turbojet engine."

Details: All this was discussed in the intelligence report. Syrskyi stated that the Armed Forces "are preparing an effective countermeasure and will use innovative Unmanned Systems Forces projects".

Quote: "Now is a very important moment in the war. We will be able to hold our ground on the battlefield if we skillfully use drones, increasing their number and quality. Drones help us destroy more occupiers and, above all, infantry, which is most effective in the offensive. At the same time, unmanned systems help preserve the lives of our soldiers – both UAVs and ground robotic systems. After all, medical evacuation and logistics with the help of ground robotic systems are also among our priorities."

Details: Funding of €100 billion for Ukraine may become part of the European Commission’s proposal for a seven-year budget, which is due to be presented by the end of July.

If EU member states approve this proposal within the framework of budget negotiations, it will ensure stable financial assistance to Ukraine from 2028, Bloomberg sources noted.

It is assumed that EU financial assistance will be provided, as now, in the form of grants and low-cost loans, conditional on the implementation of European integration reforms.

At the same time, as Bloomberg notes, this is not the only option for long-term support for Ukraine being discussed in the European Union and it is uncertain whether it will be approved.

Hungary is likely to block this initiative. On Wednesday, Balázs Orbán, political adviser to the Hungarian prime minister, criticised the idea of providing Ukraine with €100 billion in aid.

Quote from Balázs Orbán: "While Europe is unable to get out of its own economic, social and security crisis, Brussels continues to finance war – weapons instead of peace, even more debt instead of a competitive Europe."

Background:

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the European Union has provided and committed to providing Ukraine with nearly €160 billion in aid, including €50 billion within the Ukraine Facility programme by 2027.Together with the Group of Seven countries, the EU also created an instrument for Kyiv in the form of a US$50 billion loan, which will be financed from funds received from the frozen assets of the Russian central bank.

A group of Russian websites is conducting a large-scale online campaign against Ukrainian military personnel and activists, publishing their personal data and calling for persecution.

Source: an investigation by the Investigative Centre of Jan Kuciak (ICJK), as reported by Aktuality, a Slovak news outlet

Details: The Investigative Center of Jan Kuciak (ICJK) found out that servers in Slovakia are being used to provide technical support for these resources.

The investigators state that these sites publish confidential information not only about Ukrainian military personnel and their families but also about public figures from Ukraine, Slovakia, Poland, Czechia and Hungary.

The aim of the campaign is public humiliation, intimidation and the organisation of persecution – a phenomenon known on the internet as "doxing".

It is noted that StormWall, a company registered in Slovakia but owned by Russians, is among these sites' technical partners.

According to the available information, this company provides hosting and other technical services not only for individual doxing platforms but also for one of the Kremlin's key propaganda resources, the NewsFront website.

Among the tools used by Russian operators is the so-called "doxing Wikipedia" – specially created websites where personal data about military personnel, activists, politicians, and even the families of deceased or captured Ukrainians are systematically published.

The investigators state that such activities are part of a broader information and psychological war that Russia is waging against Ukraine and its allies.

Background:

Recently, an online service used by municipalities and provinces in the Netherlands to publish official documents was attacked by a pro-Russian hacker group. The pro-Russian hacker group NoName057(16) claimed responsibility for the attack. It has already carried out similar attacks on the websites of countries that support Ukraine.
