The Vancouver 2030 bid was killed by the BC government back in late 2022. It was expected to cost about $1.2 billion in direct costs (38.5 billion for Beijing, 12.9 billion for Pyeongchang, 50 billion for Sochi, 7.7 billion for last Vancouver).

Vancouver already has most of the sports-related infrastructure built. It would facilitate the construction of more density in Olympic Villages, which could help ease the housing crisis. It would motivate the development of better public transportation and would bring attention to the BC interior through Sun Peaks in Kamloops. It would also drive more hotel development in Vancouver, which is already severely lacking in hotels.

Vancouver is uniquely well-suited for an Olympic bid given it already has the infrastructure in place. Such an event could help drive economic growth and stimulate job creation without paying for the excessive costs of having to build everything from scratch. Instead, Vancouver can focus on important projects such as housing development, transportation, and social welfare under the guise of it being Olympic development.

Walking distance from Surrey Central and the best part is that it's a free thing to do!

I've tried Nero and remain unimpressed. The mochi waffle at Canffle is pretty good though!

Yes, yes, who needs speeds this fast, but it was cheaper than my 1Gbps plan before this.

Anyway, we switched for 3 weeks and it's been down twice for us now (both on weekends). It's like I'm beta testing their new backbone or something -- any other early adopters want to share their experience?

2023-07-19 Edit: since posting this it went down 3 more times. The TELUS on-hold music is starting to give me PTSD. There was something wrong with their backend where my network access hub kept getting un-registered (and my account getting unregistered), multiple times, but it's been okay for 24 hours now (knock on wood).

A tech came by monday morning to look at it, and all they did was call their backend team, but he gave me specific instructions to give the frontline support, which was useful, but still frustrating.

I'm at I think about a 50% rate on "if we get disconnected, we'll call you back".

Advocates say there's appetite for protests over the housing crisis, but several obstacles remain...

Data from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) shows Canada has ramped up construction in recent years, including over 240,000 new home starts in 2022, just slightly down from the record-high 244,000 units started in 2021. Additionally, Statistics Canada data shows that from 2019 to 2021, housing stock growth outpaced population growth in Toronto and Vancouver, two of the hottest markets in the country.

I wish it was a lot more active, I know I have to give it time for users to start using this community. The subreddit is one of the few I still check on reddit to get local news and local stuff.

Hello, I have been living in a rental in Vancouver for about 2 years with my brother. My brother is moving out due to some personal reasons and I asked the landlord about replacing my brother with a friend of mine and she said it’s good. She said she would increase rent after it’s been 1 year since the previous increase and it was all good.

Now one day before my friend is about to move in, she suddenly is demanding 20% rent increase and also forcing us to pay for electricity which was previously included in a rental. We rent a laneway unit and they control the garage part and washer/dryer as well. They charge their electric cars there. The washer dryer part of the laneway is also shared with other tenants that live in their basement.

What can I do?

Is it really the 21st instance of this event happening??? I need to show up at the info booth and interrogate them about this.

Got into an Evo recently and someone left some food rotting in the back and a paper cup of coke up front. They really need a way to penalize that kind of behaviour.
