Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

I’m looking to avoid American-made goods and American companies as much as possible and this relatively challenging when it comes to computers.

From my research so far it seems very difficult to find computer hardware that isn’t using American company microprocessors. CPUs available to non-industrial uses tend to be AMD, Intel, or recently some Qualcomm — all US companies. Even Raspberry Pi uses a Broadcom chip, and the other up-and-coming ARM chips I’ve researched seem to be American as well.

I’d appreciate any insights in this area, either companies with existing products or up and coming companies to watch. If I had a blind spot in my research and I’m missing something obvious please tell me.

Interest in LibreOffice, the open-source alternative to Microsoft Office, is on the rise, with weekly downloads of its software package close to 1 million a week. That’s the highest download number since 2023.

“We estimate around 200 million [LibreOffice] users, but it’s important to note that we respect users’ privacy and don’t track them, so we can’t say for sure,” said Mike Saunders, an open-source advocate and a deputy to the board of directors at The Document Foundation.

LibreOffice users typically want a straightforward interface, Saunders said. “They don’t want subscriptions, and they don’t want AI being ‘helpful’ by poking its nose into their work — it reminds them of Clippy from the bad old days,” he said.

There are genuine use cases for generative AI tools, but many users prefer to opt-in to it and choose when and where to enable it. “We have zero plans to put AI into LibreOffice. But we understand the value of some AI tools and are encouraging developers to create … extensions that use AI in a responsible way,” Saunders said.

I asked on Mastodon a few minutes ago if Alternativeto.net was going to add any country fields or badges in order to make it easier for users like us to choose and already got this answer! Feel free to go boost favorite/boost their answer here.

Signal, Telegram, and I think even Whatsapp have stickerpacks. Does anybody know a stickerpack for this cause? If not, we could crowdsource a stickerpack :)

Immigration attorneys have begun advising people to ensure their social media profiles are free of criticism of the US administration to increase their chances of entering the country.

"Free speech."

"Most free country in the world."

Do not visit the US. You may be the next to be detained.

Over the past three or four weeks I've dumped subscriptions, degoogled as much as I think I'm going to be able to, bought Canadian where able and Anywhere But America everywhere else.

But I feel like there's more I could be doing to stick it to the yanks. Does anyone have any suggestions for some daily activities to do to keep my spite burning?

Hi,

I was wondering about the services I can’t boycott. Youtube being one.

If youtubes value is my usage data, can I obfuscate their data by liking things I don’t really care about, changing my info, and get irrelevant ads, thus making the advertising product less effective and valuable?

And create some doubt about value in the mind of advertisers in the proces?

I’m not dumb enough to think it matters if only I do it. But if it was a movement?

Fair Vote Canada on Bluesky

Canada in the EU?

That would mean mandatory proportional representation for European Parliament elections.

If we're moving towards Europe, why keep our U.S.-style First-Past-the-Post system?

Let's fix our democracy.

While its logo (along with a former advertisement mascot) is a kangaroo, and slogan is "Add some Roo to Your Do!", along with earlier advertisements having the voiceover of an Australian woman, the brand is not Australian owned, made, nor conducts research & development in Australia. The products are manufactured in Europe and the United States by Procter & Gamble, an American company. The brand and initial product was created by American businessperson Thomas Redmond in the late 1970s

This documentary will show you what the US billionaires say about you and I. It will also show you what happens when you're a part of that system, and speak up about it.

If this isn't a good community for this, please tell me where to post it.

This link contains the previous documentary and 4 more that help to illuminate just how much the billionaires believe that we aren't actually people.
