I put my email address in as a username when signing in and it seemed to work, it added it to my list of accounts. However, now when I click on it in the list I can't sign into it. Since I can't sign in I am unable to "sign out" to remove it from my list of accounts.

Feature Request #1: Allow toggle to keep top bar visible

  • This is part feature request and part bug fix. I find that scrolling down to reveal the top bar sometimes fails to work, and it only works once the page stops scrolling. I'd prefer it come down immediately when the page shifts down and not wait for the page to stop or my finger to lift. Better yet, I have a tall phone and I would prefer it to remain visible all the time. Thus the toggle request.

Feature Request #2: Allow custom reordering of favorites

  • This one is simple. I love that we can add favorites, but I would love to hit an edit button so that little grabber icons appear and I can drag them to reorder them. I moderate a few communities and they are down on the bottom of my favorites. I'd love to be able to bring them to the top

Feature Request #3 Make Connect show in the Android Share Sheet for easier posting of content

  • Right now if I see a cool article and I click the share option, Connect does not appear in the available options to share content to. Only Jerboa has this option as far as I can tell. This would be really nice. Bonus feature is if this is implemented and takes us directly to the post sheet in the connect app, it would be nice to see if the link has already been posted and where. This is a feature on the website, but isn't even available on Jerboa. This would help others know if they are reposting or not.

Feature Request #4: Correctly show spoiler markdown text

  • I don't think any app shows this correctly yet. Not even Jerboa. When I make discussion posts in my community I have to put in a warning for mobile app users that spoilers will be shown to them regardless of whether spoiler markdown text is used or not.

Feature Request #5: Add mod tools

  • Options like reports, bans, post removals with reasons, mod appointments, and pinning posts aren't available on any app as far as I know. I know this might not be on the top of your list of priorities as most users are not mods, but this would go a long way for those of us that are. Right now I use apps for consuming content, and the website for most everything else. I'd love to just do it all from Connect.

Thanks for a wonderful app! Loving it!

I know this is probably a large lift but it'd be great to have different themes, views, etc configured at the account level.

Themes would let me immediately see which account I'm posting as. Some accounts on different instances are more for discussion, others for consuming media, so different layouts are better.

Can we get an option I'm search to go to a random community and/or a random nsfw community? It makes discovering new places a lot easier. Are there any plans to get gifs, links, videos to play right in the app instead of having to open a browser?

Hello! I would like to contribute to any testing that needs to be done with Connect.

While I am a shitty developer myself, I have been working in IT Security for about 15 years and and I am fully capable of breaking applications in ways you could only dream about. ;)

My M.O. is not to be hostile or complain about broken things, but rather, dig and see if an issue is a "me" problem before I escalate to devs. (I literally do this for a living, TBH.)

If help is needed, plese let me know. If you need me to sign any NDAs or any of that jazz, let me know. If you don't need assistance like this, ignore me.

Cheers, take care, and keep up the awesome work.

The meme content here on Lemmy is too good. So much so, that it floods my All and Frontpage on occasion.

A feature to temporarily mute some content without fully blocking it would be awesome! My suggestion, it that when we click on a specific group ("sub"? What is the Lemmy term for a "subreddit"?) we have a quick option to mute it for a few hours.

If there is some way to do this already, I apologize for my ignorance in advance.

Cheers!

Basically. On the attached image. You can see that when there isn't a link or a pic attached to a post, the voting buttons will shift to the right.

When there is a link/pic the buttons are moved left toward the centre.

Can they be permanently set into the centre? It irritating when they move and I don't realise it an end up saving something instead of voting.

Thank you

Additional to the (+X), it would be very helpful if the new comments were also highlighted.

My favorite option coming from Boost is a Hide read button that hides all the posts I just scrolled through. This makes it very convenient to visit the front page again later - all posts and content are fresh.

Bonus option, hide Upvoted and downvoted.

I've compared profile view with connect and other apps, even with the web version. And i see points indicated in profiles viewed with connect.

Franky I want the option to turn it off. Is there a way?

Thank you.

When scrolling and reaching the end of the currently-loaded posts, Connect starts loading more posts but there is no visual indication of this. A user must keep trying to scroll down until they're loaded. It would be nice if a loading bar, spinner, etc. would display to inform the user that posts are loading.

TY!

Connect 1.0.73 Released (self.lemmyconnect)

Hi, only bug fixes in this release as the feature I'm working on isn't quite ready yet and I had to set up a local instance of Lemmy for testing purposes without spamming a live instance. Hopefully this means more testing from my side going forward and more app stability. For thumbnails I'm now loading in better compressed images so you should see memory and network improvements, especially on list views where I also scale the thumbnail to the size of the list card, 1MB images are now 10KB in my testing. I changed the upvote colour to more of an orangey colour. It matches the app icon orange now. If you have the setting to open links in a external browser it no longer applies to opening images.

What's new

  • Upvote colour is now orange
  • Thumbnails are now more efficient (especially list views)
  • Images no longer open in external browser
  • Communities will now respect the 'Should Launch Externally' setting on open

Fixes

  • Comment hint text ('Comment') now matches your theme settings
  • Comment textbox is now autofocused so no extra click needed
  • Improved the text visibility of the Notificiation icon number
  • List view images are now aligned to the top and not the center
  • Fixed a minor left padding issue on List view body text
  • Adjusted the text for 'Show Post Bottom bar' to better reflect what it does
  • Fixed a bug with Subscribe/Unsubscribe not showing correct values in the top right action menu
  • Fixed the error message when unable to find a person
  • Fixed copy url action item for web views

Thank you so much for all of your feedback! A bottom nav drawer seems like the most requested feature currently so please look forward to that! It will have an option to disable for those that don't prefer it.

In-line GIF Viewing (lemmy.world)

Lemmy noob here, have only had an account for a few days and been using Connect for even less. I've noticed that on desktop, GIFs that are linked in a post (Whether in the body or the URL section) can be watched without opening a new tab or leaving the page. So far, this does not seem to be the case on mobile, no matter the application (I've used Jerboa, Connect, and one other I already forget). Is this a matter of instance implementation, or application/site? And do sites need to be "whitelisted", or can any URL that leads to a GIF work?

This is a huge feature for me, and one of the biggest reasons I'm waiting on Boost for Lemmy

With that said, Connect is by far my favorite mobile app for Lemmy.

Hello! Really like the Connect app and the development speed is very impressive. A minor thing I'm missing is related to marking posts as read. When you just click the thumbnail image and view the image, I would like if the post is marked as read. For examples with memes and such it's usually not neccesary to read the comments but the list view keeps showing it as an unread post, making it harder to keep track. Perhaps this could be added some time in a future update?

Either way great work on the app. Thanks!

EDIT: seems this was added in the current beta version, awesome!

Hey! I've been using Connect since the beginning of the month, is really cool and the dev's making an awesome job with the constant update.

I just noticed comments folding on long press, and to me, it would make more sense UX-wise to fold comments on short press. To me, a long press on an item should show advanced actions, not activate a feature.

Colors are important!

Red = bad, stop, no, don't, forbidden. That does NOT go with upvotes.

From time to time I get linked to my already subscribed communities (from c/all for example) and I just noticed that when I go to such a community it will give me the option to subscribe, but I'm already subscribed if I hit subscribe no weird issues will occur, I will only get a bottom popup saying that I subscribed successfully, doesn't seem to affect my usage, is it a common bug?

When you search, look at a single community, or look at similar screens, the hamburger menu is replaced by a back arrow to take you to the main feeds.

Sometimes I want to change some settings, send a message, or look at my inbox while on one of these pages without loosing my position. A great feature would be the ability to open the app menu without having to back out of your current screen.

Why call it "Connect for Lemmy"? It's so inconvenient and not catchy at all. Might even be misunderstood by most search enaginges when typing in the current name of the app. Just call the app like this community "Lemmyconect"

I love the app but it seems to be very inefficient with caching of data, especially pics. I've been surfing c/pics for a few time and very quickly got the mobile data usage alarm, was almost 2Gb. It seems the app is loading all full pictures of the whole community. Not sure how other apps are doing or how it was done by reddit apps but I'd assume the only preload a lower resolution version of the thumbnails of the pics.

Also it seems lemmyconnect is not properly caching the thumbnails. So if I click on a post in the overview to seen the comment, then go back to the overview, all the pic thumbnails have to be reloaded. You can easily see this when you try surfing in low bandwidth situations.

Just recently some kind of update must have happened because now whenever I look at comments on a post they all have grey backgrounds even though my look and feel theme is set to AMOLED and previously they were black unless specifically selected.

I went through the settings and found there was an option called "background" it doesn't specify that it's comments but I assume it is as the colour matches but the colour choices are a limited set that somehow don't include black with the darkest I can go to being the same grey it just got set to.

I chose the dark theme for browsing at night so if a large portion of the screen is grey then it will be a lot brighter than it used to be and the white text will be less distinct.
