Since yesterday, clicking from the front page to any discussion gives a blank page with couldnt_get_comments error and a 'refresh' button that takes you back to the front page

This happens the same when trying with different instances, logged in or not logged in, and after uninstall/reinstall.

in the spirit of the fediverse it would be good to be able to enter any Lemmy server address so the ones listed don't get hammered but to also allow people to branch out anywhere. cheers!

Hi, thanks for all the great feedback on the last release. This release brings hide post functionality and improvements to the about instance page.

We also hit 20k active users! That's an amazing milestone for only being live for about 2 weeks. I'm going to be working on a 'New to Lemmy' onboarding page as Connect is often the first place for new users. Also customization for swipe actions is high on my list to do.

What's new

I have three accounts at different Lemmy instances. I can set up and successfully log into any of these individually through Connect for Lemmy.

However, if I set up all three and try and switch between them I get an error message saying:

"An error occurred while switching."

Does anyone else have this issue?

I have all 3 set up on Liftoff and I can instantly switch between accounts. I prefer Connect, but the account switching issue is keeping me on Liftoff :(

Any tips on why I might be getting this error?

I ran into a few problems that I have listed below. None of them really break the viewing experience, but if you have the time, please look into these! I'm sure these will be some nice fixes to have for everyone.

1. Long comment chains leave very little space for text. Comment color indicators start taking up most of the space! See: https://lemmy.world/post/935243

Something like how Relay for Reddit handles this would be nice. It has a 'continue comment chain' option for longer comment chains (like after a certain depth of comments, I think 10), and when you click on the button, it opens the next comment as a new top level comment, which resets the viewing depth.

2. Clicking on a comment from our profile page opens the whole comment thread from the very top; it'd be nice if it only showed our comment (with options to show full post or context, like how Jerboa does it).

3. Deleted comments still show up (they are marked as deleted however). They don't on other apps. Not sure if it's by design or not, but I thought I'd bring it up.

4. Noticed that the new hotfix lazy loads the comments. Would it be possible to have a 'show more' button instead of auto load? (or atleast a loading indicator)
   On slow instances (like lemmy.world right now), sometimes the lazy loading gets stuck, and there's no way to know whether the end of the chain is the actual end or if the loading of the remaining comments failed.

5. When making a post (from places like the frontpage / All page etc), could there be an option to choose the community from the ones we're subscribed to, instead of typing the name and waiting for the options to pop up?
   Imo, most posts are made to subscribed communities, so getting the names quicker will result in better flow.

6. Support some of the popular instances in 'open by default' for Android.

No it's not because of my battery charge lol.
I had to log in on a browser to view anything, and to create this post.

I use swipe gestures to navigate my phone and it's easy to accidentally swipe once too many resulting in the app closing. Would be great to have a setting, requiring confirmation before quitting the app to prevent this.

The ability to add and modify custom tags, that only your account would see, to any user was essential for me on Sync for Reddit. I think with the huge influx of new users on Lemmy and Kbin, as well as the massive amounts of bot accounts that we've also seen being created, it's certainly a useful feature to have I hope it also gets added to Connect.

In terms of priority, this may not be that critical, but the sooner it's added, the sooner people can manage our experience and navigate better. This feature was what kept me with Sync and getting Sync Pro, despite a kerfuffle at the time; because I had invested time in tagging users and didn't want to repeat the effort and start from scratch with another app.

Right now when you hit Return (or it actually turns to a ✔️ in the search bar), all it does is close the keyboard. I think the better behaviour would be to do the search.

Right now we only have the Frontpage (subscribered communities), local (Instanz) and all, something I miss would a similar feature like multireddits we had on reddit. An own Feed or multiple different Feeds with each their own subscribed communities. Pluspoint if these communities do not show up in the Frontpage list :)

A couple of hours ago it seemed to work fine but now every time I try yo enable the setting to open links in the external browser and hit the save button, the setting resets. Clearing the app data didn't change the behavior.

Beautiful work. I was missing this from Boost. Such a little thing for the end user but oh so nice.

Is there a way to search for communities in this app? I see two different search icons (one in the top bar and one in the sidebar) but neither of them turn up results when I type in the name of a community that I know exists. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Hi, no update yesterday as I was out of town but now we're back to the usual release cadence. This release brings an image uploader to comments (and other places), swipe to go back navigation, a new icon, and more.

I'm getting overrun with these even when the site is working fine. Sometimes will even have a post load, but as I'm reading it it'll disappear and I'll get a bunch of bad gateway popups at the bottom.

At the moment it seems to have cooled off after some minutes ago when it was happening constantly, but since it seemed (to my very untrained eye) to be unrelated to server maintenance I wanted to bring this up.

Edited to add - I had to uninstall and reinstall Connect, but now that has largely fixed the errors. I continually got error messages saying Lemmy.world was down for maintenance when it wasn't, but since reinstalling it it's been fine.

I'm not sure if this is a general Lemmy thing or specific to Connect somehow, but occasionally I come across comments that are shown as deleted. Does anyone know why this happens?

I would love to have an option to auto mark as read post as I scroll down the feed. Coupled with the option to hide read posts, it's incredibly useful.

Hello, past sync for Reddit user here. I heard connect was a good app to use as it had similar look and feel here on Lemmy. I was using for a day or two when I spotted this in my duckduckgo app tracking protection screen. I can't say I have come across an app using so many different trackers, any reason I am not aware of for all these? Thanks

We need an ability to save drafts of comments. As far as im aware I don't think this app has that.

It's incredibly demoralizing and frustrating to have a comment or post you worked on dissapear because I tried to go back and look at the thing I was commenting on.

Also, there should be a preview window of what im replying to when commenting on posts so I dont need to back out in the first place.

I feel very stupid, is there an incredibly obvious way to save images which I don't see? I tried touching, long touching, pressing the more options menu but I can't see anything

UPDATE:fetched the latest update from Google play and now I see the three dots. Nothing to see here, move along.

Sorry if this is a dumb question or been asked before but I am struggling to find the 'communities' button if there is one, where you can view all? I saw it on a Lemmy guide but they were using a different app. Does anyone know the best way to find new without having to search for something specific? At the minute I am browsing all and finding things by chance. Thanks!
