I mean, we all hear about people thinking what they think only because the people around them think it too. So how do you avoid doing that?

Looking SpaceFox's question for people who have been in special ed, it seems pretty like its a pretty negative experience. So, I'd like to know what Lemmy users have seen work well for people who need extra help in school? What haven't you seen but think would be helpful?

A lot of subreddits are banning/proposing to ban X links in response to Führer Elon's wonderful gesture of love and tolerance. Should this instance follow suit?

Also, Instagram/Threads/Meta links. Same question.

I would like to know if is there any measuable metric that Zoom give to management team how much member participant in zoom call, like how often you talk, or AFK.

Just know if i need to game the number like talk something in the call.

I have zero knowledge of the history or geopoliticial millieu there, I know there's obviously lots of Ukrainians who speak both languages but not sure that translates to them wanting to necessarily join Russia per se.

I keep the details of my idiosyncrasies to myself. Folks with ADHD often tell others explicitly.

To my kindred 'special' people, do you tell others specifically what makes you different, or do you keep it to yourself? Why?

For people who are in or where in special education, Why where you there? What was it like? How did you do later in life? And did it have any effect as a adult?

I've been thinking about how we could potentially enhance the Lemmy experience, and I wonder if anyone else sees potential in incorporating a feature similar to Bluesky's Custom Feeds or Mastodon's Fedialgo?

Here's my thought process:

Why Custom Feeds?

User Empowerment: Custom feeds allow users to tailor their experience, moving beyond the limitations of chronological or "popular" sorting.

Discovery: They can help users find content and communities they might not encounter otherwise.

Flexibility: Users could create feeds based on specific interests, keywords, or even complex criteria.

New User Onboarding: Many new users join Lemmy from algorithm-driven platforms like Xitter, Reddit, Tiktok, Instagram, Bluesky, etc. and may find the manual nature of Lemmy's current feed system limiting. Custom feeds could help to smooth that transition.

Bluesky's Approach

Bluesky's implementation of Custom Feeds is particularly interesting:

Users can create and share their own algorithm-driven feeds

It promotes algorithmic transparency and user choice

The feature has been well-received for its innovative approach to content curation

Mastodon's Fedialgo

Alternatively, we could look at Fedialgo, which:

Allows for custom feed creation within the Mastodon ecosystem

Is open-source and federated, aligning well with Lemmy's principles

https://github.com/ronilaukkarinen/fedialgo

Potential Implementation for Lemmy

User-Created Algorithms: Allow users to define their own feed algorithms using a simple interface.

Shareable Feeds: Enable users to share their custom feeds, fostering community curation.

Integration with Lemmy's Existing Features: Ensure the custom feeds work well with Lemmy's communities and cross-instance functionality.

Open-Source Approach: Keep the feature open-source and possibly federated, in line with Lemmy's ethos.

I, unfortunately, do not have the time, energy, or knowledge to be able to attempt something like this.

What do you all think?

Could this be a valuable addition to Lemmy?

I'd love to hear your thoughts, concerns, or ideas for potential implementation.

I've been using Instagram as a way to stay up to date with all the local community events or small businesses doing events around me for the past couple of years.

With everything happening at Meta and TikTok, I've deleted and uninstalled most social media accounts and apps.

Do y'all have any suggestions for keeping up to date on local events around your neighborhoods without having to use Instagram or Facebook? Do I have to sign up for 30 email newsletters?

People love to hate AI, but I think it's one of the most human inventions ever. The majority of my internal human experience already runs on autopilot.

The life-critical tasks have been outsourced to various biological systems.

My heart beats 24/7 without conscious effort, thanks to the cardiovascular system. Digestion? Handled seamlessly by another system. Breathing? Autopilot. I don’t have to remind myself to inhale and exhale. It just happens.

Even many of my own thoughts seem to appear out of nowhere—emerging from my subconscious or triggered by something around me.

Is it any wonder that, in one way or another, all human technologies strive to replicate this internal 'automation' in the external world?

To me, it’s a beautiful—if ultimately futile—attempt to harmonize our inner and outer realities.

Per the title, is Lemmy actually growing, or will it stagnate and fade into obscurity like many other similar discussion boards?

Hi everyone!

I wish i could translate whole web-blog and all articles in it to my own language , then download it as Single (or few) HTML file's with pictures and etc.

For example this one: https://digital-cleaning.de/

If there any tool wich can allow me to do so?

Of course, i can visit each page separately, use translator and then copy-paste it, but maybe there any way to automate it? I used SinglePage addon for Firefox and edited code, but too routine 🥲

Thanks

Would love to hear some recommendations especially if they are available in Canada. I've been chewing a lot of whatever the green and blue version of 5 gum is lately. 5 released a caffeinated version of their gum called respawn but I don't think it was ever sold in Canada.

I had a discussion recently with someone about this. Since we don’t really celebrated our birthdays we weren’t sure what’s “normal “.

Sorry if this is controversial, but I've heard some people saying (title) and that it's ironic that after the American government tried so hard to ban the little red book of the cultural revolution from being in everyone's pockets, now it is in everyone's pockets again in the form of an app on their phones.

I'm sure the first thing people will say is, it's a social media app similar to TikTok, which is why Americans are flocking to it in the wake of (and in anticipation of) TikTok's ban for reasons related to CCP interference. It's not literally the writings of Mao Zedong, in any way. But I think it's more of a symbolic idea of what it represents. It's also very interesting that the first choice of an app to replace TikTok was one that seems even more closely associated with China than TikTok is; I wonder if Red Note actually takes off in America that it will be banned as well otherwise it may have just replaced the perceived problem with another one.

All I hear about is "boomers" this, "Millennials" that, "Gen Z" that, etc.

Why no one talk about Gen X? What happened to them? They just vanished like in Infinity War? Or are we mistaken Gen Z by Boomers?
