Does it just take time to learn? I'm just started and I'm already tumbling down the hill adding more and more things... Home Assistant, Plex, PiHole, Proxmox, and more that I'm getting nervous I'm forgetting... do you just save the link in your browser? Is there something I'm missing? I have Unifi if that helps.

Randomly stumbled upon this subreddit and a Youtube channel HardwareHaven and 2 weeks later here we are.

  • Dell Latitude 7250 without screen - i5 5300u, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD - headless Ubuntu24 + CasaOS
  • Xiaomi 4C Router

Total cost: around 50 euros, probably less

I am only running Pi-hole at the moment but I am already so amazed what a little effort and little money can do. I know it's a shitty router but my internet providers one is quite locked down so I can't even change DNS settings so I'm using this Xiaomi one until I figure out something better, but my internet is only 60MBit/s so I feel like the router is not a bottleneck atm.

Randomly just stumbled across this- appears to be.... basically Ventoy, but, with its own hardware.

Appears it supports passing through multiple virtual drives. This could be handy whenever driver CDs, ie, Virt-IO are used. Although, not really that common when I am installing something on bare metal.

Anyways- does anyone have one? Looks kinda neat. Although, I'm not crazy about the price.

Hi,

I am totally new to Proxmox. I already use Docker on my Synology DS920+ NAS but wanted to get into VMs an LXCs. Well that is my starting point.

The three Nodes are three identical models of the Dell Optiplex 3000 with an Intel i5-12500T and 16 GB RAM each. I have yet to setup a Proxmox Backup server. That I am Plannig to do on my DS920+ in the Synology VMM.

What do you think?

Hello,

I am looking to set up a mini server for my home. I plan to run thru docker containers services such as pihole, homeassistant, immich, nextcloud etc. I dont need to run AI models, transcoding or such. This server will be running 24/7 so power efficiency and reliability are a must.

My first option is the RP5 4 GB model. It would be 110€ with all the accessories. While it is the cheapest option i found, it runs off a 32GB SD card which limits a lot how much i can store on immich or nextcloud. I could easily get a bigger card, but over 128GB they start to be quite expensive. I am also a bit concerned of the longevity of SD cards themselvs. I only ever used them as storage extensions, not something that gets used all the time to boot and run an OS. A 128GB card + board and accessories would be around 120/125€

I found a case which supports 2280 NVME drives, but it is 50€ plus the actual SSD. Between case, board and accesories, it would be 140€ + SSD. The case is the ARGON V3.

The alternative i found is the MSI Cubi N. It is 170€ barebone (No ram/ssd/os included). I already have some spare RAM and i would run linux, so i would only need an SSD. This is the spec sheet if you want to have a look.

I know there are many cheaper chinese N100 mini pcs, but no thanks.

What do you suggest? The PI is cheaper and probably idles at lower power, but it runs off an SD Card. The moment i add an NVME, the price difference closes down a lot. I am kinda leaning towards the MSI system since it has more performance shall i need it, runs off an SSD and is upgradeable, but i am open to your opinion/experience.

EDIT: your opinion is quite clear. N100 it is. Thank you all.
