In a surprising announcement, Electronic Arts announced that they have open-sourced Command and Conquer Red Alert under the GPL license along with Command and Conquer Tiberian Dawn and related titles.

Hello all! I began working today, where the work is closely related to programming. Despite this, the work computer is set up as Windows (eww). I want to look for work-arounds, as installing linux on a work machine is a no-go.

I wonder, what is the way to minimize pain from having to use windows? Either that, or a way to maximize work done on linux-like stuffs. A linux server is given for us, and I think I can install WSL. Any recommendations on this setup?

Especially, I miss the virtual desktop feature, is there any way to use it? Is there a way I can run compositor through WSL? Also, should I install Pop! OS for the feature, or is it available on e.g. Ubuntu (default WSL)?

Sorry to ask a non-exclusively-linux question, but I think, hopefully, many linux people have experience to give me pointers what to do with a windows work environment.

Hi everyone, I have been getting back into photography lately and switched to using linux full time about a year ago.

I ended up deciding to use digikam as my photo library management tool and then edit in darktable. both applications I decided to use the appimage for easier use and to have the necessary dependencies to get things like opencl to work, (I had a hard time getting it to work with the .deb)

now I also use multiple machines and recently learned that you can create .home and .config folders for each appimage to have all their settings etc save there, and it seems that this would make it pretty portable.

would it be a bad idea to for example keep the appimages and their folders in a synchronized folder like with nextcloud to use the same* appimage across machines. I never have the same machine on at a time but it would be nice to have all the settings sync'd but im not sure it would then break something since two machines use nvidia gpus and the other uses an amd gpu
