TW injections, mention of needle phobia
Been practicing sub q injections on an unfortunate banana with some green food dye. Ideally I’d be using a training kit but mostly see the intramuscular or phlebotomy practice pads being sold.I’m pretty decent at delivering it but man the uncapping and changing the needle over post draw up is fiddly and tough… it’s a balance of strength and fine motor movements because both are kind of stuck on stiffly, but you can’t overdo the force because you risk giving yourself a needle stick or dropping it. It’s also hard when your thumbs bend backwards. (Not normal.)
I did drop the needle when descending upon the unlucky fruit the first time but it’s ok as it was just practice. I recapped because I have no sharps bin yet and might just use that syringe over and over to avoid wasting them. But then repeated removals might make it easier to remove the cap, when really what I need the most practice on is carefully twisting off the stiff new plastic.
Go me for doing this though. I had/have a mild needle phobia and am now working on giving them.
It’s not so much the product as the process. My cat needs weekly vitamin b12 shots and I’m practicing to give them at home.
The banana is the test subject and the dark food dye is to show me whether or not I’ve done it correctly.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7wFbxDqhNnQNo problem, I do ensure I trigger warn. I did use the spoiler function that needs to be clicked for text but maybe it isn’t showing up because you’re in another instance?
This is a lemmy thread, we don't have content warnings on lemmy, just spoilers (which OP used).
