We need a term for when you think you've gained something or owned someone, through either snark or contempt or sarcasm, but have gained nothing or even lost materially.

I think they're actually referring to Trump in this situation
I'm actually referring to Democrats and their constant insistence that by getting in a good verbal jab, or some other performative display of resistance, that they've "done" anything.
These debate moments and the media reaction to them is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Performative resistance is all we get from Democrats while they cede materially on all fronts.
