At the end of the campaign I have written the BBEG (just a guy tbh) is meant to fall off a cliff into a vat of “godly essence” and magical artifacts. The next campaign opens on him crawling out of the pit as a a lich powered by these artifacts looking for vengeance.
Are you planning on immediately revealing this? It could be a lot of fun if you start by dropping hints (e.g. vague visions in their dreams), and have the group come to the conclusion on their own.
I was thinking of using it as a cliffhanger at the end of campaign one, like an end credits scene.
Depending on what you want to do, a good approach could be to have the end credits scene only show that something ambiguous is happening with the cauldron, without showing that the BBEG is still "alive".
Oh hell yeah I love that! Like an eye opening and it’s just a black void now or something. I have tons of time to workshop it (we’ve been playing for a year and we’re still in the first act).
