Not every single tool you might need will have a recommendation on this website, but some will and they're well researched and vetted alternatives that often perform better than the service you're replacing.

Given the intent of this community though it should also be noted not all recommendations are European. Brave for example is American.

Fair point and good call out!

I always assume that we have the sense to double check any recommends.

On a related note, I believe that due to the nature of FOSS and it being “borderless” that those alternatives should also be relevant.

I think the purpose of this community is to give money to EU companies though. Not necessarily to get away from paying for services entirely like the FOSS community seeks.

I think there's a space for FOSS software, but that's not here.

Yep, I get that - I'm not a fan of Brave in particular due to the crypto crap and the owner's homophobia and right-wing beliefs but thats not why I mentioned it, I just wanted people to be aware that PrivacyGuides, whilst a fantastic resource, is not a source for only European software/services.
