It's said how this is now being called Steam Deck OS. It was originally Steam OS and a desktop OS but now it's Steam Deck OS and no desktop release is in sight. In fact, it seems like it's against Valve's supported path to put it on a desktop. Kind of a bummer that the desktop world won't get a well supported gaming desktop Linux distro for the foreseeable future.
"SteamOS" is mentioned twice in the actual patch notes
I don't see your point. The fact is that they are rebranding it to Steam Deck OS. Clearly they are still calling it SteamOS in places but it's still not actually SteamOS. It's steam's OS for steam deck. Steam Deck OS. No longer is it an OS for desktops or laptops but instead handhelds.
As far as I know they've said nothing about that. It's reasonable to say that the title is a typo for a couple reasons.
Two use cases for the OS that have nothing to do with Steam Deck, so "Steam Deck OS" makes no sense as a name. I personally think they are waiting for Plasma 6+HDR support+VR support before they ship a desktop version, it's important to have feature-parity with Windows out the gate for good word-of-mouth.
it’s not a typo: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1675200
It's literally been repeated for every version since July 19, 2022. They last used the "SteamOS" term in the title on May 26, 2022.
Ok, not a typo. Other than the title of these patch notes, is it referred to as "Steam Deck OS" anywhere else? On Preview branch the distro still says "SteamOS Holo".
