Replace Xfinity modem (alien.top)

I want to create Vlans for my home to do some training and want to gain world experience. I have Xfinity modem has WiFi and router built . You think I should replace it with a different modem or router? If so, which router?

I replaced my Xfinity gateway with an arris modem and OPNSense router. No issues and get 1400Mbps down

Make sure you are not at a data cap address. If I use my own modem I get a 1tb/mo data cap with $10 per 100gb after that.

This is based on your address. My neighbors don’t have it but they can get fiber where my only option is DSL.
