Something I've never thought about, but why does watcher stop a fully mechanical lens from working? I get over time it would corrode things, but why would would stop extremely quick?

Not a smart guy, but salt water could short-circuit the batteries and effectively fry the electrical aspect of the watch. Again, not a smart guy, I don't even know if watches used batteries back then
