I've been interested by Nix-OS/Guix package managers every time I see them.
Linux
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Have you tried them out? I have, and strongly recommend it. There's some painpoints with both (such as heavy resource usage when rebuilding your config, or erratic error messages) but that's definitely a very interesting approach to be explored. To be honest, i feel like this is the first major OS paradigm change we've had since the 90s and it could very well be the future of OS development.
my PC is apparently too vancy for guix, every time i try to boot the ISO, it dies just before opening the installer. Gotta wait til the linux-libre kernel catches up to the hardware i guess.
