It only gives an extra 2.7 inches of screen. It would be a lot more useful if it doubled the screen size.
I would be rather worried about how long that mechanism will hold up. I doubt it will last the 15+ years I would want to get out of a $3500 laptop.

To be fair, 15 years is a lot for a laptop. I say this as someone who used their previous laptop for ~10 years (albeit with SSD and RAM updates).

Blergh, who wants a big square screen like a psychopath?! They should have made the laptop a smaller square and then have the screen expand out the sides to get to 1440p
