I free-handed a bee and some honeycombs on some jeans with the last of my yellow embroidery floss, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

I'm not a professional, and I certainly don't do things the way you're "supposed to" (planning things out, sketching them with water-soluble ink/chalk), but I had fun making this and I'm excited to wear it :D

One thing I learned is that denim requires a thicker needle and not necessarily a sharper tinier one. I was using a thinner one previously and it kept getting stuck between threads and bending when I tried to pull it through. It's way easier with a small embroidery hoop and a big needle!

That's adorable!! And really impressive that you free handed the design. How big is the bee? Looks pretty tiny.

I like the placement! Was it tricky to sew around the pocket on the inside?

Not too bad with my embroidery hoop. I chose one that was only about five or six inches in diameter.

That's cute as heck. I don't even really wear jeans but now I want them.

I find that light-colored jeans (light blue wash, or something) are so cute for embroidering flowers and bees and silly little things onto. I've tried embroidering flowers onto a black jacket I have, but it didn't look as good. I guess the black was too saturated, or something.

My first kit used black fabric and it for sure came out more muted than expected. I feel like only neons really show up nicely.

Yeah, that must be it. I don't have any neon embroidery thread, do you? Just old basic kits from childhood, plus some nice colors I might see in the store and buy individually.

None that are actually neon, but I have some that are pretty close. I know DMC has some true neons that I may end up getting, but I'm in full fall mode with my crafts so everything is pumpkin and olive green and eggplant right now.
