Once upon a time there was a cursed continent that was contaminated by dark and evil magic from decades of blood sacrifice. It was covered in a thick jungle that was difficult to move through, and it was full of monsters, evil magicians and dinosaurs. There were cities of monkey people worshiping a monkey god, and on the shores there were tribes of fish people worshiping a fish god who ate any sailors that went to the dark continent. Despite the dangers of the dark continent, there was a city of gold that was founded by a man who had become a new god through completing a complicated ritual, and he used his power to create a city of gold. He ruled over as a god of the golden city and created female goddesses to serve as his wives. He had many children with these other goddesses, but he struggled to preserve his bloodline since his power required blood sacrifice in order to stay. He mitigated the issue by having children with other residents of the city and of the continent. Some of his offspring were half-mortal and others were even half-monkeyman. Eventually, there were very few people who did not have the blood of the immortal golden city god.
Things went well, but eventually the monkeys demanded a right to live in the city since they had a direct blood connection to the golden city god. They were allowed, but soon found themselves being used in blood sacrifices exclusively. They were not allowed prestigious positions in temples or in the governance of the city, and worked exclusively in jobs considered undesirable such as maintaining the sewers or slaughtering cattle. This created resentment as monkeys began questioning the gods of the city. They tested the divinity of the golden city god by pillaging his temples and smashing the statues that existed of him. When they realized he was unable to stop this in any supernatural way, they immediately stormed his palace overlooking the city to kill him. The monkeys climbed vines up to his chamber on a cliff before guards had time to react, and they grabbed the golden city god and simply threw him off of his own balcony before he had time to react. To the horror of all his followers, his head hit the ground and burst open, leaving a red splatter on the ground that would never wash off. The gold of the city turned to stone.
The next emperor of the city was a half-monkey half-new god who was put into power by his people. He was known as the immortal monkey emperor and he renamed the city to Zamettar, and encouraged the majority of the human population to leave the dark continent on boats. They would sail out and never be able to return to the dark continent, because it was in a liminal space between our reality and another. However, the people carried some DNA from the monkeys and the new gods which influences us to this day.
