hmm... their legacy network is dying fast anyways and from a purely technical perspective I actually agree with the switch to Inspircd and offering an official bouncer.

Really a huge lost opportunity that libera.chat basically just replicated their totally outdated IRCd setup from the old freenode.

These moves feel like the final few nails in the coffin for IRC. I hope people move over to libera.chat

On the plus side, now I dont have to log into freenode and delete my account.

Yes my thinking as well :)

But tbh, they were bleeding users fast anyways, this way they might win over a few remaining ones by offering much nicer services from a technical perspective. I think they want to try and compete with Discord, not retain the old timers so much. Lets see how that works out, but I am glad I moved to my own IRCd a few weeks ago.

I'm actually pleasently surprised that the exodus is happening. Usually, I'd expect platform inertia to rear its ugly head and that most people would stay because they're used to it. Like with Whatsapp, or Facebook in general.

People need to stop bashing on freenode's server splitting.
