Every week we'll have a new prompt. All visual artistic mediums are welcome whether it's pencil, paint, digital, sculpture, embroidery, or whatever medium you prefer or want to try. Prompts might include a technique, style, subject, color, or other inspiration. Creativity is the point so feel free to stretch the prompt as far as you want.

If you missed a prompt, you are still welcome to post your project later. Please include the prompt in your post title.

I tried the method from the video posted on the weekly discussion. Did not come out nearly as good as his how-to example, but a lot better than his don't-do example, which is how I normally do with fur and hair.

Anyway, this is my fur baby.

Hello artists,

This prompt was inspired by this video I watched on how to draw fur.

Of course, you don’t have to draw, you can illustrate fur in your preferred medium. Alternatively, you could get some faux fur and make something with that.

Go forth and create.

I've been collecting magazine images for a while, wanting to try this surrealist collage thing. But I have such a fear of committing to using an image. If I use up my paints, I can buy more, but if I use an image I found in a second-hand magazine, it can't be replaced. It's like playing Apples-to-Apples or Cards Against Humanity, when you play a card and pick up a new one to replenish your hand, then realize the new one would have worked so much better for the current prompt.

Hello artists,

This week we are making a collage, which is an assemblage of different materials to create a new image. Per wikipedia:

A collage may sometimes include magazine and newspaper clippings, ribbons, paint, bits of colored or handmade papers, portions of other artwork or texts, photographs and other found objects, glued to a piece of paper or canvas.

Of course, your collage could be digital, or a combination of digital and analog, too.

I found this video on how to compose a collage helpful.

I also love this channel, which shows how you can just play around to create something. I hope you’ll all use some of these prompts for these kinds of playful activities rather than feel like you need to have a masterpiece when you’re done.

Check out [email protected] for more inspiration.

Go forth and create.

These 2 inklings are called Integrelle (yellow) and Summatia (blue). The duo is basically Kiki and Bouba.
Integrelle loves rainy days despite being an inkling, and Summatia is here to make sure she doesn't get hurt by the rain.

I make vector arts/animations! This is an SVG and because of that, I can give you the source code!

Hello my fellow art lovers,

This week, we're inspired by the concept of wetness. This can mean:

  • Using a wet medium. Water color paints/pencils are obvious. Have you ever painted with coffee or tea? Or you can try adding water to a normally dry medium and see what happens.

  • Make art of something wet. A glass with liquid in it can be a beautiful challenge. An ocean painting or nature scene with beads of dew can be lovely and peaceful. Or a portrait of someone crying.

  • There are lots of artists who make a living drawing NSFW images, so if that's your thing, go for it.

Go forth and create.

Ink and colored pencil on paper.

This one is inspired by the larger-than-average number of Linux fans on Lemmy.

Hello artsy lemmings,

This week, we pay homage to the forum that has brought us together by making art inspired by lemmy. Ideas:

  • Draw your own version of the lemmy lemming.

  • Paint a portrait of someone not pooping for 3 days.

  • Have you ever made a meme or do you just consume them? Now’s your chance to make one.

  • There are a variety of art communities here with professional and amateur art. You could try something in a style you find there.

  • There are a variety of communities with beautiful pictures of animals and landscapes.

  • There is a lot of Star Trek content. Like, a lot.

Go forth and create.

David Harbour as Santa + tattoos + man bun = a yes for me. Though I think this image looks more like Nick Cage.

Used new pencils for the sketch and new marker paper. I'm not sure if it's only that I'm new to markers or if the paper is shite, but these Ohuhu alcohol markers are supposed to blend and that was just not happening. I like the final result but I'm frustrated that my markers are not behaving like they're supposed to. I've seen a few how-to videos, but if anyone has recommendations, please drop me a link.

Hello artistsn

This week you will use a medium that you have little-to-no experience with. Obvious choice is to pick up a type of paint, drawing material, clay, digital program, or other item you've never touched before. But that can take money and we don't need to make this challenge expensive. So here are some ideas:

  • Use a new tool in a medium you normally work with. Try out a new paintbrush or pen, or add a different material to a collage.

  • Combine materials/mediums. If you tried painting and drawing but not together, you can combine them. Or maybe sculpture and collage. Photography and comic strips?

  • Crayons - have you used these since you were a kid? If you've only used them in coloring books, you can try making something more advanced with them. There are plenty of childrens’ art materials you can usually pick up inexpensively.

Go forth and create.

Trying to expand my skills, not sure I like this. It's hard to do detailed things like this.

This one has been in my head for a bit. A goblin mom to be trying to manage the chaos of a cave filled with goblin children.

We'll begin doing prompts the first week of January. For now, I'd like to brainstorm a list of 52 prompts. I can make them all myself if necessary, but it would be great to get input/ideas from people who want to participate.
