Is Lemmy Connect the first and currently only way for individual users to block instances? I know you can block instances if you host an instance yourself, but not everyone wants to do so.

We should be promoting this feature if indeed we are the only one with it as it has been in popular demand, especially lately, with Threads now being a thing.

Hey. I've been using Connect for a couple of weeks now and I like it quite a lot. One thing I've been missing though is the ability to quickly subscribe to a community from an aggregated feed (like All); right now, to do so, I have to open the community and subscribe from there. Seeing that "Block Community" already exists in the context menu for a post, it's only logical to have "Subscribe" there as well. Maybe it's not needed that much in the long run, but it will definitely help me now as a Reddit refugee trying to rebuild my feed.

Hi, Thanks for all the tremendous feedback yesterday. I tried to take that into account and add some of the more requested features. Things to look forward to in this release would be: Improved search options (with tabs for posts, comments, communities, user), user notes section which lets you add global tags to users that only you can see, and report options to comments and posts. I tried to address some of the bugs reported too, and hopefully settings should be working as expected through the upgrade.

What's new

• Added indicator of how many unread messages you have in your inbox
• Added 'Open' option to the about instance page
• Searching for a community with a !community or !community@instance format will now take you there directly
• Added total user counts to the about instance page Added new search page
• The info bar on posts now displays above the image when 'Title about image' setting is active.

Hey there!

Because the same communities can exist across multiple instances, it can be hard to keep track of which ones you are subscribed to. I think it'd be super helpful if community names had some kind of indicator whether or not you are subscribed to them; a small check mark, maybe, or a different color if subscribed, etc.

Thank you for all the work on this! Connect is pretty damn great so far.

I can't post any pics I've taken myself or screenshots. Can post downloads and pics sent to me though. So I need to message them to myself and save as duplicate in order to post.

Every time I save my settings my theme UI changes or it'll work for a bit, then I close and open the application and all my settings are reset. Would love if the settings were actually saved x.x

For some reason my profile on lemm.ee has lost all of its subscriptions, save for one ([email protected]). Some additional weirdness to help troubleshoot:

• This doesn't affect my lemmyworld account
• logging in via web UI and other apps has my subs as appropriate
• viewing the frontpage shows properly subscribed communities
• I've tried clearing cache, storage, uninstalling, and reinstalling and the problem persists

If I can provide any more detail to help in diagnosing please let me know.

I cant find out how to display only my subscribed communities and its annoying because it keeps showing me the front page and not what i actually subscribed too.

It would be great to have some link preview when viewing a post, example screenshot.

Can someone explain me what these settings actually do? While self explanatory, I cannot notice any difference after toggling them.

1. I'd love for there to be an option for some sort of persistent opaque header so that the status bar is visible/doesn't overlap text.

2. A more robust search. Some way to separate searching by post, community, instance, user, etc. It's sometimes super difficult to find the community I'm looking for, especially if the name is a word commonly used in posts

As ironic as it may be, Connect 1.0.65 (65) is unable to open this community, from the link in its settings. Also tried other ways to open it in the app, same result.

I checked that lemm.ee isn't defederating with lemmy.ca so I'm not sure what may cause this. Android 13.

Often I tend to scroll too slowly and it registers as a long press so some random comment gets hidden and I have to unhide it. Can you add an option to disable long press actions? Or it could be improved so it doesn't register if it's not a stationary press but I'm not sure whether it would work or if other people already like the way long press works.

Edit: Apparently it already registers only stationary press so maybe either an on/off switch or long press time adjustment would be good to have.

I am testing adding .svg emojis, but Connect for Lemmy doesn't display them at all

This is especially relevant when viewing communities like c/memes where I don't necessarily want to click in to read the comments on every thread, But if I open the image, I'd like the post to be considered as read so that it doesn't show up again on my next refresh.

When browsing some communities, I would notice post titles full of urls and stuff. At first I thought these might be spam or something, and then I noticed that they look a lot different from the mobile site.

Trying to post images here, hopefully this works.

Sometimes I will read a post and then save/bookmark it to go back to at a later date. But if hide read posts is enabled, you can't see those posts in your saved section/folder. You have disable hide read posts.

I am sorry if this has been asked before, but when or will it be open sourced. It is the best Lemmy Client i have used yet but i dont like anything being closed source and i read somewhere the dev wants to open source it at some point. Just interested if there is an estimate.

A popup appears saying it needs write permissions but the permission dialog never appears.

Hi, Connect 1.0.63 is our two week birthday (from this post). Hard to imagine it's only been two weeks. This version brings a lot of new things but the big features would be instance level blocking, 'show more comments' buttons to make comment views more compact, new theme options, and the ability to mark a post as read while scrolling.

I've hit back. I've force quit the app. But every time I open it, it's in community view as seen in the screenshot. And there's no nav on the left.

Seems like a bug to me...

I ended up updating to the newest version and then it was back at the regular home page.

Android 13, Pixel 6

I've noticed that anytime I click save settings it seems to reset a bunch of them back to the default. Namely it resets my theme, font size, and some other settings such as refresh rate and swapping comment settings. Things like layout seem to be unaffected.

Ideally there would be no save settings button, if I back out from that screen I would expect that my settings just stick without me having to push a button to commit them.

Redgif is not embedded correctly most of the videos can't play in the app.

I use Firefox by default and I want to use its webview to open the links by default to have blockers enabled and so.

Can this optionally be enabled? I don't see any option related to it.

The title is just duplicated so you have it above and below the image although you would expect only one title above the image
