Charlie Brown is holding a wastebasket and he says to Patty who is sitting on the floor with her doll. "I bought a new wastebasket" Patty stands up and says to Charlie Brown "Well unwrap it and let's see what it looks like... Charlie Brown unwraps it and says to Patty "What shall I do with a;; this paper? Patty says " Throw it in the wastebasket!" Charlie Brown is looking down at the wastebasket and says " Gee, A basket like this comes in handy, Doesn't it?

Shermy stoops in front of her and says,"Gee, Patty, I didn't know you could type..."

He sits next to her and she replies,"Sure, I can type a hundred letters a minute!"

Charlie Brown stands on the field with his mitt/hand outstretched and his cap twist to the back on his head. He crouches and says,"Pitch to me, boy!"

He stands, motions with his hands, and continues,"Throw it right in here! He can't hit it!!"

He leans forward slightly and continues,"Just pitch to me, boy! Pitch to me!"

Shermy walks up to him and he concludes,"O.K., I'm all warmed up...let's start the game!"

Patty watches as Violet walks by dragging a toy giraffe on wheels.

Patty stares after her and says,"Gee, I wish I had one of those..."

Patty exclaims,"Ah!" as Snoopy walks by. Snoopy looks up at her puzzled.

She walks along smiling pulling a rope that is attached to a skate and upon which, a smiling Snoopy is standing.

A puzzled Charlie Brown looks over his shoulder as a voice cries,"They're ruined!! They're all ruined!"

He runs towards the voice as it continues,"They're ruined!!" "Every one of them!"

He approaches Violet, who is sitting on the ground between her shovel/pail and an overturned table, crying. He asks,"What's the matter, Violet?" She replies,"My mud pies are ruined..."

She stands up and points to them behind the overturned table. She concludes,"They fell in the dirt!"

At this point in the strip, the art style is in it’s second phase (1951)

Snoopy sits on the grass sleeping.

His ears suddenly shoot up.

He happily rushes off.

He smiles and stops in front of Charlie Brown, who is eating an ice-cream cone. The latter says,"Rats! He can even hear me lapping an ice-cream cone!!"

Transcript:

Shermy and Charlie Brown, both wearing baseball mitts, run along the field towards a sign that reads, 'Drive Slowly, Children At Play' Shermy points to it and exclaims,"I'll show it to you...it's right over here!"

They stop in front of it. Shermy continues to point to the sign and says,"See? 'Children at play'....that means us!"

Charlie Brown looks closely at the sign and says,"Well, I'll be..."

He smiles and turns to Shermy. He concludes,"We're famous!"

Shermy stands pointing at Patty. He says,"I'll bet you a million dollars"

She points back at him and replies,"I'll bet you a million billion trillion dollars!"

Charlie Brown runs along, holding a coin. He calls,"Hey, Shermy! Patty! Look!! I found a penny!"

As he holds out his palm with the penny in it, they look and Shermy replies,"A penny! Wow!" Patty says,"Boy, are you lucky!

Transcript:

Patty stands next to the table watching Charlie Brown, who is standing in a chair making numerous sandwiches on the table. She asks,"Are you going to eat all of that just before going to bed?"

She follows him as he walks off with his full plate and a glass. She continues,"You'll have nightmares, Charlie Brown"

He places the plate and glass on the footstool. He says,"That's all right with me..."

She stands in front of him as he sits in the chair eating from the stool. He concludes,"I get bored with just plain sleeping!"

He puts his hand to his face as she points at herself and then at him; she says,"I'll be the mother and you be the father"

As they walk along, she continues, "You'll have to do everything I tell you!"

He stops, looks back at her, and asks,"Do we have to be so realistic?"

Transcript:

Violet sits on the grass next to her pail and shovel. She sits in front of a baking pan and says,"These are very special mud pies...I've sprinkled them with coconut"

She approaches a smiling Charlie Brown with one of her pies. She says,"Here, Charlie Brown, have a mud pie! Pardon my fingers"

He shudders and exclaims,"Phooey! This tastes awful!!"

She looks at the pie he has dropped on the floor. He explains,"I'm sorry, Violet, but I just don't like coconut!"

The first time coconut is mentioned

Charlie Brown stands in a chair in the bathroom, looking into the mirror above the sink. He puts his hand to his chin and exclaims,"Say! I think I do!"

He continues,"No, I guess I don't"

He walks to Violet, who is sitting on the floor. He says,"It turned out to be only dirt..."

He sits across from her and crosses his legs. He concludes,"But for one brief, exciting, moment I thought I needed a shave!"

This strip would be remade on July 15, 1959 with Linus and Lucy replacing Charlie Brown and Violet:

Violet sits on the floor with a book; she replies,"It was last month, Charlie Brown" He looks down at her and says,"Really?"

He sits, crosses his legs, and continues,"Gee, I wish I had known that...I was going to get you something nice"

She replies,"Couldn't we make it retroactive?"

Charlie Brown stands looking down angrily at the radio. He exclaims,"What a radio!"

He kicks the radio and continues,"Boy, I get mad at it!!"

Shermy stoops looking at the radio as Charlie Brown stands grimacing at it. The former asks,"What's the matter? Bad tube? Loose connection?"

Charlie Brown replies,"No!! It doesn't have any good programs!"

Patty approaches Charie Brown and says,"Say, 'Ah', Charlie Brown" He opens his mouth and says,"Ah!" "AAH!"

He asks,"Do you think I'll live?" She replies,"How should I know?"

Puzzled, he watches as she walks off saying,"I was just looking for a ball that I lost!"

He turns to the reader and glowers.

Charlie Brown watches Snoopy walk by over his shoulder. He asks,"Hey! Who let this dog in?!"

He jumps slightly as Patty stands next to Snoopy and replies,"What do you mean,'Who let this dog in?' "

As she talks, Charlie Brown starts to physically feel small. She continues as Snoopy smiles at the diminishing Charlie Brown, "He's got a right to be in here!" "Who do you think you are?!"

As Snoopy sits with his nose in the air, Charlie Brown retorts over his shoulder,"All right! Don't look so triumphant!"

He puts his hand to his face as he continues to listen.

As he puts both hands to his mouth, Violet walks up. She says,"That must be an exciting program, Eh, Charlie Brown?"

He replies,"Oh, the program hasn't started yet....this is still the commercial"

Snoopy sits on the ground listening to Charlie Brown play the violin.

Snoopy covers his ears as Charlie Brown continues to play.

Charlie Brown lets out an exhausted sigh of relief, as Snoopy sits drained, with his tongue out.

Charlie Brown turns to Snoopy and asks,"Do you think that I could have had anything to do with the death of Beethoven?"

This strip has the first reference to Beethoven

Charlie Brown sits in the bathtub and tosses a duck out. He exclaims,"Ducks!"

He tosses a boat out and exclaims,"Boats!"

He tosses a swan out and exclaims,"Swans!"

He turns to the reader and concludes,"Great Scott! Can't a man take a bath with any privacy?!"

As she chases him, he exclaims,"It's risky, but I get my laughs!"

Patty looks over her shoulder, as Charlie Brown points to his left and says,"Well, look who's coming!"

He looks down at Snoopy as the latter arrives smiling. Charlie Brown says,"Man's best friend"

Patty looks at Snoopy, over her shoulder, as he walks off. She says,"Man's best friend, eh?"

She turns to him and exclaims,"What's wrong with women?!" He stops and his ears shoot up.

Patty and Shermy sit on the floor facing each other. She exclaims,"You heard what I said!"

She stands, points at him, and continues,"And don't you forget it, either!"

He cringes as she says to his back,"You'd better treat me with more respect..."

She concludes,"Someday, I may be somebody's mother"

The drawings of characters are now lighter beginning with this strip. The gag is recycled from the Li'l Folks strip from July 31, 1949.

Charlie Brown runs along asking,"Hey, Violet, do you want to borrow some of my comic books?"

He catches up to her as she walks along the lane. He continues,"Could I buy you a soda? Do you want to ride my tricycle?" She replies,"No, thank you..."

They stop in front of her door. He asks,"How do you expect me to impress you?" She replies,"Just be yourself, Charlie Brown..."

He says through the closed door,"Oh, rats, you girls always expect too much of a guy!"
