What do you do to get ready for an interview as an Azure Cloud Engineer? What do you think has helped you land the job as a cloud Engineer if you were successful? If you were not successful what do you think caused it and how could it have been improved or eliminated? I am looking to get a job as a cloud engineer and away from IT Project management.

Dear community, I was given a scenario where the client wanted to completely move the server to cloud. They asked me what steps i would do. I told them that first I'll create a Azure B2B tenant with the organisation server name under one subscription. Followed by verifying the domain under custom domain name. Then I told them that I would create a resource group, vnets and a vm win server on cloud based on the requirement. Then I will promote the server to a Domain controller. Will install AZURE AD CONNECT on the Onprem server and follow the process to sync the accounts in cloud.

I got rejected.

I just want to know if I have explained the process correctly or did I miss anything. Thank you.

Hello,

I have some baseline FSLogix, Teams, and OneDrive settings I am looking to apply to session host's via GPO. I do use Nerdio. Currently, I have created a GPO via the AADDS management VM and applied it to the golden image VM. That works fine, policies are showing on the golden image and therefore when I re-image my hosts they get those same settings. The hosts are scheduled to re-image every night via Nerdio, it powers on the desktop image VM, syspreps, captures, and then applies that Azure image to the hosts.

Is that the correct way to do this? Or should I keep the golden image VM off the domain, and only apply the GPO's directly to the hosts? I guess it does not really matter that much at the end of the day, unless I'm missing something. I could always create another GPO linked only to specific host's if I want them to have settings applied that the others don't.

I enjoy cloud infrastructure stuff, truly. Azure Infra has always been an enjoyable thing to learn about and has come in handy during my day job when we occasionally have to do some custom work for a customer that's outside our normal service offerings. It's never anything overly complex but it's been a good time.

Right now, my business has re-organized a bit and is working to have a dedicated team of consultants to handle some of our long-term consulting work, but until that staffing is complete, I've been asked to fill it. The commitment is manageable with my normal responsibilities (I also have a good team who can cover me one day a week while I consult) so I don't mind that. What I'm finding to be a real migraine-inducing time is consulting on more complex azure infrastructure. I can't give details for NDA reasons, but holy hell is it mind-numbing to try and figure out what's going on. This isn't a greenfield project, so I've got limited time to try and figure out what's doing what, and connected to what, and providing what service, and what NSG goes to what Subnet, and what Resource Groups have what, and I just want to slam my head on my desk.

Has anyone else ever ended up here? I'm at a point where if I never have to look at another Azure Infrastructure gig again it would be too soon. I want to crawl back into my SOC hole and hunt security threats in peace....

Hey everyone!

I'm currently working implementing a better observability strategy in a company. This includes logging, alerting and dashboards.

I find it difficult to come up with a good "alerting strategy". I've read about it on the Azure Architecture Center, CAF and WAF, but they don't have any concrete suggestions.

We'd like to send alerts to Slack/Teams. As far as I know, Logic Apps is an OK solution for this. I say OK because I find it weird that these 'basic' alerting options need a thing like Logic Apps_instead of having native Azure integrations.

However, what's a good strategy for an entire company for these kind of criteria:

  • There are multiple teams, each are responsible for several products.
  • Each team has their own Microsoft Teams team or channel where alerts need to be posted.
  • We'd like to have a "central" solution for this. I don't want each team to have to create their own alerting solution because this will end up being a mess.

What are your thoughts for this? Any resources to help me implement this are also very welcome!

I would like to specialise as an Azure Cloud Solutions Architect. I am well-equipped with Infrastructure as Code (IAC) skills, Terraform, Azure PowerShell, Azure DevOps CI/CD planning, deployment, and troubleshooting experience.

I am working towards the AZ-305: Designing Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions certification.

However, for the solutions architects out there, or recruiters, what are the core skills you look for when working alongside an architect or potential hire? Are there any non-Azure related certifications that I must have to even be considered for a role?

I'm not sure if the answer changes based on geography, in terms of the job market, but I live in the United Kingdom and currently work as an infrastructure engineer.

Many thanks!

Hello admins,

I need your help in architecting this environment. So I have 3 VMs, a DB, App, and a Remote Desktop Gateway. I have a public IP directly attached to the RDG server which allows my on-prem users to connect and access the applications.

Now I need to add a new VM for a new service. Question is, what do you think is the most cost-effective way of giving this VM a public access? Basically the new service will be using port 808*.

I can simply add another Public IP and attached but I really have no idea maybe there are better ways to do it. Load balancer is one thing I have in mind. Again, I'm looking for the least cost way of achieving this.

Thank you all!

I made sure I have everything ready.

Clean desk, Only laptop and power, ID, Wired network, Silent room ( But I have cats, no I can't lock them in a different room).

I made sure my system is fine for the exam, I will opt in 30 min before.

Anything else I should take under consideration?

Thx!

Hi everyone,

I'm a .NET and Azure architect, and I'm looking to start a Discord group for other .NET and Azure architects to discuss technology, share ideas, and help each other out.

I'm hoping to create a discord where we can all learn from each other, ask questions, and collaborate on projects. I'm also interested in setting up a bi weekly call or something to that effect.

If you're a .NET or Azure architect and you're interested in joining the Discord group, please leave a comment below or send me a direct message. I'll be sending out invites to everyone who expresses interest.

Thanks

I'm running into an odd issue and wondering if i'm missing something obvious or if anyone else is experiencing this problem?

I'm looking to create a dynamic MS365 group, I simply want to apply the following dynamic rule

user.memberof -any (group.objectId -in ['objectID1','ObjectID2'])

I have done this in the past, have groups in prod using this exact syntax and reading documentation () this should be fully supported

I get the following error

Failed to create group x. Dynamic membership rule validation error: Wrong property applied

Any thoughts?

Hi,

Apologies in advance if this isn't the right place to post this. Basically I'm doing the cloud resume challenge and am having an issue with the HTTP trigger function.

Here's what I'm trying to do:

Chunk 2: Building the API We're going to break up the "visitor counter" piece of the project - which requires creating a cloud-based API that communicates with our website - over this chunk and next. By the end of this section, we'll have a working Azure serverless API that updates the visitor count in a database. We'll also store our Python code in a GitHub repository, so we can track changes to it over time.

So I've set up a serverless noSQL Cosmos DB, with a container (ID: Items, Database: ToDoList). I've also set up a functions app with the appropriate bindings for both inputs and outputs that point to the ID and database of the CosmosDB account. But still returns a 500 internal server error.

Any advice on how best to troubleshoot this would be greatly appreciated thanks!

I recently bombed an Azure engineer position. I realized as I was being asked questions I could not remember how to implement things. I am sure they are not calling me back. I have been largely hands-off with Azure for the past couple of years and wanted to get back into the field and out of management. What are some good hands-on labs to help refresh and reinforce concepts?

Anyone else seeing connectivity issues with some Azure SQL databases in East US? Can see a few reports on Twitter, what's weird is it isn't all databases and the Resource Health blade thinks everything is fine, but all the other blades time out.

I need some advice regarding which compute service to use. I have 6 APIs, hosted on prem which serve ML models. I need to move these APIs to Azure. I am confused whether we should get into kubernetes for this migration. We are a small team of 10 people, with no training in DevOps. We are expecting that the number of APIs will go up to 20 in the next 1 year.

I have considered the following points for both computes: App Service:

  1. Simple to deploy and manage
  2. Has scaling facility and ability to deploy containers.
  3. 1 app Service plan with 2 3 instances might be able to host all our APIs in future.
  4. Number of separate app services to manage will be large though, i.e. 20 test+ 20 prod.

AKS

  1. Kubernetes is well known to be complex to manage, especially for orgs without separate DevOps/infra teams.
  2. A single cluster would be able to host all our APIs now, and can add node pools in future if required.

Please help with your opinions about the services, and which one would be ideal for my case.

I have an Azure Database named db on database server servera that I am able to copy to database server serverb in Azure, automatically with a Function app. The app then renames the original database, appending "_old" to it, and then renames the copied database to the original db.

Basically, my function app is restoring a database for me.

However, I have a group on serverb that has read-only access to the original db but not the renamed one. How can I automate this group to also have access to the newly copied database?

I am not an SQL expert but know a little. Can I create a schema or something to say that the group always has access to this database?

I am trying to use Azure Functions to do it with PowerShell but after spending countless hours on it (including non-work hours), I am about to give up with that approach.

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks!

Hello everyone. I'm gonna go to the point. I have 0 knowledge in ARM Templates such as JSON and Biceps. I don't know how to code or program either.

Recently Ive decided, as personal goal and considering I've been working with Azure for couple years, to learn how to deploy templates (JSON, Biceps and terraform).

I've started with learning how to use VS Code and installing the necessary dependencies recommended by Azure (Azure ARM tools; JSON, Biceps and Terraform "snipets" and some other Azure packages that I found interesting). Then, Ive searched in GitHub for quick templates and luckily I found one repo that has all current available ARM Templates so it made it a little bit "easier".

Now, I would like to learn to deploy them by myself, learn how to add param files (for example required when creating a VM with adminusername or adminpassword), deploying them from "/..." Root folder, etc..

Does anyone has a recommendation for it? Maybe learn some "common" language that would make me understand better the creation, or any course for it?

Also, for people who works deploying/creating them in large corps, can someone dm me? I have small questions but I don't want to make this post super long.

Thanks a lot guys and Im sorry if this post was really long.

Ps: I've been able to deploy successfully vnets and peer thems but thanks to the templates already done in Github, but so far Im not able to create a VM or something more difficult. I have knowledge in Networking so usually all resources in Microsoft.Network are easy to understand but well, not that easy to deploy for me haha

Anybody receive this email? One day notice!?

Subject: Important: We’ll enable security improvements in Microsoft Entra ID beginning September 15, 2023

From: Microsoft <[[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])>

Date: 9/14/23, 11:19 AM

Important: We’ll enable security improvements in Microsoft Entra ID beginning September 15, 2023 Let your users know what to expect when they sign in to their work or school account. 📷

We’re enabling a stronger form of multifactor authentication beginning September 15, 2023

You’re receiving this email because you have a Microsoft Entra ID tenant.

On September 15, 2023, we’ll begin prompting your users who authenticate using SMS and voice methods to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app when they sign in to their work or school account. This change will take place on a rolling basis over six weeks as part of ongoing efforts to improve security.

This change will affect Microsoft Entra ID (previously Azure Active Directory) tenants that have the registration campaign feature set to the Microsoft managed state. After we enable the feature, users will be prompted to install the Microsoft Authenticator app, a stronger form of multifactor authentication than SMS and voice methods.

Recommended action

After the registration campaign feature is enabled, everyone in your organization who currently uses SMS or voice authentication will need to set up Microsoft Authenticator. To avoid any confusion, let your users know what to expect by September 15, 2023:

  • When they sign in to their work or school account, they’ll see a prompt to set up the Authenticator app—they can choose to install it or skip the prompt. They can skip up to three times before they’re required to install it.
  • To install it, they’ll need to select Next on the prompt, which will take them through the Authenticator app setup.

Help and support

If you have questions or if you need help, learn more about the registration campaign feature or see support options.
