How do you organize your library?

I'm still pretty new to #Darktable and was wondering now that I have my library all in Darktable how you go about using the rating system and the color labels.

I want to go through my entire library over time and want to come up with some system that I can stick to to help organize, cull, etc

I use Darktable 5.0.1. I don't know if this is a bug or just a user error on my part. But I can remember that it worked differently in 4.8.x.

When I am in the lighttable module, I can select “rejected only” in the filter. I would now expect to see all rejected images. However, the opposite is the case. I now see all images that have not been rejected. However, if I select “all except rejected”, I see the rejected images.

Why is the filter effect reversed?

If i get it right, the database and some other things are modified, when updating from 4.8.x to 5.0.x. That's why I think its a good idea, to backup old Darktable data. The question is, should I only backup the sqlite database or also the sidecar files?

Hi there. I know that Darktable can't do Imagestacking for photos of the MilkyWay. I have searched now for some time, but could find only Siril as Linux Alternative. But in most descriptions, it is stated, that Siril is not the best, when I have parts of the landscape on the horizon and i should only use it, when i have photos from the sky only.

Can someone recommend me a Linux native Imagestacking tool, which I can use also on photos with landscapes on the horizon?

If you're considering upgrading to 4.6 and recursively importing is important to you, you might want to hold off.

I recently wanted to import a whole lot of files and saw it presented the files when recursively import was ticked, but when i clicked on Import files , the interface said X files imported instantly and no files were imported.

I know there's a formal bug reporting framework, and I'm not posting this to somehow get the issue fixed, it appears to have been recognised earlier and now fixed in the nightly builds. (I built 4.6, and since built todays/yesterdays).

The purpose of this post isn't a dig at the developers, but to warn anyone who might be considering an upgrade. If i knew it was an issue, i'd have deferred upgrading. (Some time was spent fault finding as i was accessing files for the first time from a NAS)

I understand that there is likely going to be a 4.6.1 released about a month or two after 4.6, so it should be soon.

Some of my friends also take photos but have never used darktable and I made this video with them in mind.

Please give any feedback, especially about anything i may have missed but you think should be in there. constructive feedback welcome.

The video was a quick recording i made, but i am looking to make a more polished one and will look to post the link here too if that's ok.

DT 4.4.2 is out... And the website and forums are back up and running. Also the flatpak release in flathub has been updated and runs neatly

I wanted to create the first thread on this community about DT 4.4.1, only to find that the darktable.org site is down.

Also the DT forum at pixls.us has been down for a few days.

Regardless, what an amazing re DT release 4.4.1 is. Having used DT since the early 2.x days, it's incredible how far the software has evolved. It's very technical, but totally worth the learning curve.

I am using the flatpak version these days, on ubuntu 22.04.
