Hello all, this has been kind of floating around in my head for the last few days, and I figured this would be a good place to share. I'm 25F, for context.

When I was 20, I was having a pretty rough time. I had been diagnosed with a psychotic disorder, I had a drug problem, and I was really struggling with PTSD. I was hearing things that weren't there 24/7, had daily flashbacks, and was completely depending on drugs just to go about my day. It was miserable.

In summer of 2019, I decided to take my own life. I was overwhelmed and just did not have the support or the skills I needed to cope with what was going on. I drove to a random residential area with a bunch of meds, with the intention of overdosing. For whatever reason, that I still don't fully understand, I called 911. It felt like I was possessed when I was dialing the number, because I was %100 ready to go.

Anyways after talking with dispatch for a while, a police officer showed up. I remember he was older, probably late 40s, he has really short fingernails from chewing them too often, which I related to. Other than that I don't know who it was. I forgot his name unfortunately. He talked with me for a while, took away the meds I had on me, and explained to me in really clear but calm voice that I was being apprehended under a Form 10, which is what happens when a mentally ill person is taken into custody by the police. He didn't put me in handcuffs, he didn't shove me into the back of his cruiser, he just told me to get out of my car and sit in the back of his police car.

We went to the Royal Alex, and instead of handing me over to hospital security, he chose to spend a couple hours in the waiting room just talking with me. He told me that the doctors were there to help me, but I would only get better if I did what they suggested, he told me that when they give me meds, it's really important to keep taking them even if I start to feel better, and he told me a bunch of other really solid life advice to give a 20 year old schizophrenic. And like, he didn't have to do that. He could have just cuffed me, took me to the hospital, and turned me over to security and left, but he didn't. He took the time to make sure I was going to be okay.

I don't remember a lot about that time in my life, but I remember feeling like an animal. Sub human. The way people treated me made me feel like a burden and a problem that needed to go away. But that police officer made me feel like a human being.

I struggled for a couple more years, but my life today is incredible. I have 4 years clean off drugs, 3 years with no cutting, I have my own apartment, I'm on AISH, and I haven't had to go to the psych ward in over a year. I still think about that police officer a lot. He did more than save my life, he showed me humanity when very few other people were willing to do so.

So yeah. That's my ramble that I wanted to share.

Is it a coincidence or is it a warning sign? I don’t mean just entry level roles either, but analyst jobs, management etc.

Hey everyone! Just wondering if there is anywhere that I can practice ice skating at night. I'm new to skating and I work a graveyard rotation so unfortunately have limited time/energy to practice during the day. Much appreciated!

Hey folks - I have a friend that is struggling immensely with their mental health. They are a wreck- incredibly anxious every day, having panic attacks/breakdowns several times a day and it is impacting their ability to maintain relationships, and their quality of life. Their work isn’t impacted, but that’s because they are a bit of a workaholic. But that’s kind of all they do. They withdraw from everyone. Where would I begin? They don’t have any benefits. Therapy is way too expensive for them. They are currently unmedicated, have tried a few meds that didn’t work, but they also struggle with their tolerance during the adjustment period and often will just quit them. But I think it’s gotten to the point where they would be willing to try again.

7133 Winterburn road

Just ate at this fantastic restaurant! Family owned, great food and great prices. For $13.95 you can get a noodle soup with your choice of noodles and four toppings (ie meat, fish balls, etc). I’ll definitely be going back but wanted to share this gem with everyone :)

Just stopped by the Clareview bulk barn and oh my goodness I’ve never wanted to befriend a store employee more than tonight. This elderly lady helped my partner and I at the register and she was so sweet I wish she was my grandma. Super friendly and sweet, I would get hired there just to work with her lol.

A little back story before I go on my enraged rant, though not for pity, just for understanding of my situation.

I've been a carpenter in Edmonton for about 6 years. My older brother was also a carpenter and got me started straight out of high-school. Thanks to my dad especially I know I have a solid work ethic and have always worked my ass off even when I worked at DQ in high-school. I built a decent reputation for myself and started getting lots of side gigs. 2 years ago my brother had passed away just short of his wedding and it was devastating to my family. He had been starting a business but never quite went full time self employed. After his passing I decided to quit my job and started his business up again in his memory and have actually been fully self empoyed since last December.

Now the shite part

It takes a lot to run a business and I knew that but man oh man did I not realize how hard I would have to work to turn profit. I've been framing show homes for a reputable builder in Edmonton using the tools I had inherited from my bro and what I could afford. Last September I had my trailer broken into in MY DRIVEWAY at 5am. Lost about 3k worth of my tools while some were my brothers that had his writing on them.

I called the cops of course and they tried to find him but never did. The cop was one of the best I've ever met, she took me very seriously and didn't blow me off like some have. She ended up admitting to me that even if they did catch him there would be no major changes because they just get released on promise bail and will go out and do it again and again because having a bad record doesnt actually effect their life in any capacity. I have commercial insurance but for those who don't know, it's not a fun process. So I decided to swallow the loss and just work harder to make it up because bad things do just happen sometimes.

Now just before Christmas, I was working my butt off and stressed out the wazoo. I had left my work trailer on site because it's expensive to pull around especially in the winter with 4x4, and it was a populated new area so people could see my trailer (I usually wouldn't because of theft, but it gets broken into at my place anyways soooo...). We'll wouldn't you know, I show up in the morning prepared to work through that blizzard we had and my trailer side door is wide open. I had added extra locks since the last break in but doesn't matter when you can just take a GRINDER to the door and pop the damn thing open.

I lost everything. I didn't have a single tool to my name and not a single one of my brothers left. 10k totalled in loses not calculating my trailer being damaged and not closing properly anymore.

Called the cops again but this time I was transfered to a different division that handles cases that aren't in progress (they broke in during the night) and haven't heard a thing since because why would they care about a small business that's building housing in their city. It's a business so they must have lots of money right??

I'm going through insurance this time because this has crippled my company and I can't afford to buy everything I need again. But even with that, I don't know if I'm going to be able to recover.

This was a long rant and I'm sorry if it's poorly written but I just can't stand the theft in this city. I see it everywhere I go. I live in a supposedly nice mature neighborhood but crime has been surging here and everywhere in the city but nothing ever seems to stop them. I have cameras on my property, lots of locks on my trailer, I'm checking evey box i can think of to safeguard my property but still it's not enough and the EPS doesnt seem to be bothered. Yeah I know some people are in desperate positions but this is never okay.

I guess if anyone has some stories of theft in the area they want to rant about as well it would be oddly therapeutic for me, that and if anyone has some ideas on how to stop this from happening to me again, I am all ears.

-your friendly neighborhood carpenter

I worked for Canna Cabana for some time and was attacked at work at a work alone store, they had me work the remainder of my shift and expected me to continue coming in with no changes, experiencing violence there more than once I went on WCB claim. I couldn't make myself go outside. I was throwing up from stress.

The company tried to sweep me under the rug and made no changes. They requested sick notes while I was on WCB because they didn't communicate with WCB directly.

When I asked for compensation for these notes they claimed there was no such request despite it being in the emails and told me I didn't work there anymore despite not doing any offboarding.

When I asked who to talk to I was told to email the general HR email and without responding to any of my inquiries no longer even asking for compensation they started blocking my email address.

Now I'm wondering how many people they've done this to.

Please share your experiences and help me shed some light on Hightide Inc. The parent company.

Just a note of caution if you are in St. Albert there are nazis (literally wearing a swastica) on the side of St. Albert Trail by the mall.

Stay safe out there friends.

Just had a shower thought because I have to go pickup a package on the Westend today.

Is using END for the West and Side for the East just an Edmonton thing?

I would use WestSIDE but never EastEND.

Truly important things to think about.

Original Title: Cat found under my deck, looks well groomed for a stray. Put out food and warm water for her and she was slow blinking at me, she's probably missing home. Anyone recognize? West side, Brittania-Youngstown
