Hi All!

Welcome to the newly created Gundam community on ani.social. I welcome all the refugees from the [email protected] community, whose home instance is slated to be shut down shortly.

After a meta discussion in that community, I offered my services to be a community moderator for a newly reborn Gundam community in the lemmy-verse. I am far from a Gundam expert, but I have experience moderating other communities and offered to help out. As a standing offer, I welcome others to reach out if they want to moderate this community that are more knowledgeable in the area.

Happy posting!

I’m 8 episodes away from finishing MSG79, it’s taken me far too long (probably a few years of intermittent watching).

What would you recommend I check out next?

I know 08th MS team is highly recommended. I loved Witch from Mercury, admittedly I watched most of it on my honeymoon traveling Japan, so I might be biased. Also open to non-Gundam Mecha suggestions, I started The 86 and enjoyed the premise.

From the article:

Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash Part 2 (tentative title) movie is officially in production, as confirmed during Shochiku’s 130th Anniversary Lineup Announcement Event held on January 23, 2025, in Tokyo...no specific release date has been announced

Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash is planned to be a movie trilogy based on the novel series by Yoshiyuki Tomino, the creator of the Gundam franchise. The novels were originally published between 1989 and 1990, and are set in the Universal Century timeline, serving as a sequel to Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack.

Synopsis of the first movie from AniList:

The year is U.C. 0105. Twelve years have passed since the end of the second Neo Zeon War (Char’s Rebellion). Even after “the Axis Shock,” which seemed to indicate the future of humanity and the Universal Century, the world is still in a chaotic situation where intermittent military conflicts continue to break out. The Earth Federation government is more corrupt than ever, and its leadership has not only accelerated Earth's pollution, but also implemented an inhuman "Man Hunting" policy in which civilians are forcibly exiled to outer space.

The anti-Federation government organization “Mafty,” led by someone called “Mafty Navue Erin," has taken a stand against the corruption of the Earth Sphere. Mafty carries out fierce acts of terrorism, assassinating high officials of the Federation government one after another, but it gains a certain level of support from the populace who are growing more opposed to the Federation government.

The person who calls himself “Mafty” and leads this organization is Hathaway Noa, the son of Bright Noa, an officer of the Earth Federation Forces who once participated in the One Year War. Hathaway himself joined the forces trying to stop Char’s Rebellion. With firsthand knowledge of the ideals and ideologies of Amuro Ray and Char Aznable, he has become a warrior following in their footsteps, and plans to clear a path forward through armed resistance. His destiny, however, is drastically altered as he encounters the Federation Forces officer Kenneth Sleg and a mysterious young beauty named Gigi Andalucia.

The song is performed by Kenshi Yonezu, who is probably best known in recent times for doing "Kick Back" from Chainsaw Man and "Spinning Globe" from The Boy and the Heron.

I checked my music streaming service of choice and it is showing up now. So, have at it.

This kit for being HG is pretty awesome. Bandai has really stepped up their game with this line, the kit has a pesduo-skeleton more like what you would see in a MG but not completely similar. The poseability and range of motion with the joints are also awesome.

The amount of seamline removal for this kit is very minimal as most of the panels for the armor are designed to kind of piece in for the look. But man... the masking tape involved for this kit is going to be crazy. Tons of small details that need attention. I'll be sure to post updates for this kit as I work on it, and others that I do soon. I also stream on Twitch when I build, if you're interested in watching the process feel free to ask for my handle.

What I find about this series most interesting is that I (a zaku enjoyer) really like the new gundam design over the new zaku design and have found that people that usually like gundams over zakus like the Zaku design better.

I got this on the cheap back in 2020, before watching Build Divers. Was a fun little build, and the Core Gundam concept intrigued me. Wasn't sold on having a bajillion option parts etc to buy. Picked up the weapon set later but never got around to building it.

Fast forward a few years and I have to hand it to Bandai. I've now got most of the Planet System sets and a bunch of Core Gundam variants, most picked up on discount. Budget became nonexistent around Plutine which is probably just as well since the reviews I've seen aren't kind to it. Which is a shame because I'm a sucker for purple mechs.

From the article:

Mobile Suit Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino spoke at Seien Girls’ High School last month after being contacted on behalf of a student passionate about Gundam. She and her fellow students wanted industry figures to share how to make dreams come true, with their wish eventually reaching Tomino.

One of the questions addressed to Tomino included his view on life and death, to which he replied:

“Death is within my reach. I think it’s a good thing to be able to face death peacefully. I want to face death head-on. Rather than leaving something tangible behind, I’ve come to think that I want to create something that can be passed on to the next generation. It may not be something that connects with people now, but the next generation should understand it. I believe that the message of ‘Reconguista in G’ will have been conveyed 30 years from now. I hope that the future will be different from the Earth today.”
