It's been a string of bad times lately, can we just have upbeat fun stuff this time? Is there any good tech news to focus on this week?

I’ve just gone through one of the worst customer service experiences of my life, and I want to warn everyone: If your Microsoft account gets hacked, you may never get it back.

Microsoft’s Policy Actively Helps Hackers

My Microsoft account was hacked and stolen, and despite confirming the unauthorized access, Microsoft refuses to return it to me. Instead, they permanently suspended it, meaning I lost all my games, purchases, and progress—including Minecraft, which I now have to buy again if I want to play it.

This means that if a hacker takes over your account and changes the security info, Microsoft locks YOU out forever. They won’t restore your access, refund your purchases, or even let you transfer licenses. Everything you paid for is gone.

False Promises, Delays, and Total Incompetence

Microsoft’s support wasn’t just useless—it was an absolute joke:

  • January 17th – I first contacted Microsoft. I was told my case would be resolved within 3-5 days maximum.
  • January 24th (7 days later) – No response. I reached out again and was told it would be fixed within 24 hours.
  • January 26th (2 days later) – Still nothing. I contacted support again. This time, they told me, “Oh, it looks like your case has already been solved.”
  • Solved?! I never received a response, update, or my account back!
  • A support agent then opened a new case (since the first one mysteriously “disappeared”), meaning I had to wait another 3-5 days without access to my account.
  • January 31st (today) – I finally get a response. Microsoft acknowledges my account was hacked but refuses to restore it. Instead, they permanently suspend it and tell me I have to repurchase my games if I want to play again.

So not only does Microsoft refuse to help victims of hacked accounts, but their support system is a complete disaster—full of delays, false promises, and outright lies.

A $3.11 Trillion Company Can’t Recover Accounts?

Microsoft is one of the biggest tech companies in the world. Other platforms have actual account recovery processes—why doesn’t Microsoft? Why do they make it easier for hackers to keep stolen accounts than for legitimate owners to recover them?

This is completely unacceptable. If this has happened to you, please share your experience. People need to know how bad Microsoft’s security policies really are.

I'm starting to think MSI end goal with their RMA service is to make it as slow as possible as they can, annoying the customer beyond any limit and make him believe he needs to pay for stuff his warranty covers.

So after months pursuing legal actions from the last RMA claimed in their Portugal Service Center, and having received my laptop back half repaired after filling several complaints in my Consumer office and other law enforcement institutions in Spain. Immediately asked again for a RMA request since the thermal issue wasn't fixed and my laptop was still reaching abnormal temps shutting down constantly. This time I asked them to not send the laptop to Portugal since it was a third party company hired by them to make repairs and they answered saying that I could send it to their official one in Poland, agreed hoping this time things would change and oh god if I was dumb enough to believe this.

Long story short: they went with the same predatory modus operandi only that now they updated their quoatation to not fall under any of the big fuckups they commited on the letter sent on my first RMA so no more threats claiming that they will keep my laptpp if I don't pay this time or charge me for having my laptop in their facilities! Wow that's all the feedback they got from my last complaint: not be dumb enough to threaten the customer with a public letter, neat! (Here's the thread if anyone wants to catch up). Since I have everything documented (I learned a very valuable lesson to film everything) from the moment they handed me the laptop back, me opening it and testing it right out of the box, so now again i'll just have to waste more time and resources on filling complaints to get it again repaired after 2 or 3 months of waiting. Isn't that exciting?

I just don't get how MSI can make this up, genuinely. I'm beyond disgusted and tired of this shit CS RMA thing, they'll make me go through all the hassle I went through last time filling complaints left and right and waste my time until someone in the Consumer office gets to see my case and start researching it. All this while they gate me from having a functional laptop just for the sake of making the process painfully slow to fuck up with the customer. It's disgusting, it's insulting and ultimately predatory.

Oh, and this laptop costs 3.5k€ and they're ratting their way to not cover a 200€ repair and try make the customer pay for it.

Please please, if you ever buy something from MSI be aware of how predatory and scummy their RMA is. One could say that I just had bad luck on my first iteration with them but when this happens back to back, literally right after the previous RMA (where they didn't even adress the issue and sent anyways back the laptop only fixing the damages they caused to my laptop lol), with two different repair center across the continent, you know the issue is on a major scale buried deep into the brand policies and how to approach their customers.

I PC flip as a hobby, and of course I don't really care about the new 500 series hype. However, I do know that over the following days, some older GPU models are going to be dropping on eBay and marketplaces, and I thought I would share a tool I made with which I buy used GPUs and other PC parts.

In general, I think that by focusing on used parts on eBay gives the best margins if you aim to flip or just upgrade your rig.

Some things I found like that eBay marketplaces (.com, .de, .co.uk etc.) often have different prices for the same items! Or just completely different items. So I built an eBay price scanner for PC components. It scans listings across different Ebay markets, calculates median prices, and flags anything selling below market (including shipping costs to your location). It basically finds the best deal that is specific to your location. It currently tracks GPUs, CPUs, RAM and motherboards across 6 eBay markets, updating every 8 hours.

With the RTX 5000 series launching soon, there’ll be a flood of used 4000/3000-series cards hitting eBay.

Anyway, I've been using it myself for and it actually works -- and I thought others here in LTT would find it useful.

Let me know, what you think. Would love to hear your feedback on making it more useful.

This really sucks because they have mentioned it’s becoming a larger and larger part of their revenue and I suspect the US is a significant portion of their sales.

25% is significant. Nearly $90 screwdriver and $312 backpack. Not to mention normal taxes and shipping costs.

Personally I will be holding off any purchases in hope the tariffs are very temporary.

I am trying the new preview on my Android device and finally downloads "just work!" This has been killer for me as I travel for work and downloads on the old app were painful AF.

You can put it in the background, it downloads in reasonable time, etc.

Praise the Plex gods.
