Larian head of publishing Michael Douse says the fact that game prices haven't risen with inflation is "an uncomfortable truth.

Article:

I've actually been wondering about when this would happen, I saw a post over on r/Piracy about the pricing structure of Civ VII, and I thought oh an anomaly, now I'm thinking oh this is the new future. I mean as it stands Civ VII is already starting at $69.99, and I personally don't see Civ as a $70 game

ETA: Just to head this off now, I'm not saying the game isn't worth $70 or $100, that's up to the individual user to decide. My point is, the pricing for games and other specs will probably start pushing a lot of people and average consumers away because of affordability.

I wanted to put these links somewhere more visible than comment links because there appears to be a broad understanding that LTT discovered Honey was stealing affiliate links, then dropped them with only a post on their forum describing why.

Whether or not LTT should have made a video or WAN Show topic is irrelevant because the problem was well known by that time. I'll go so far as to say that LTT was late learning about it. The Honey problem was known and widely published in 2018, and suspected as early as 2014.

For reference, LTT dropped Honey as a sponsor in March 2022.

2014:

2018:

2019:

2020:

2021:

2022:

  • LTT drops Honey

2024:

  • Megalag and others accuse LTT of being the only ones to know about Honey stealing affiliate links.

Note that the other problems with Honey described by Megalag were not known by LTT or, from what I can tell, anyone else. They might be new functionality, or were just better hidden.

Android user who isn't going dark side for this...

I'm starting to see nags on various apps about the shut downs of Google Fit and related APIs, not to mention Fitbit as well.

The "other side" path is far from clear.

I just want to be able to view various stats, and synch them with other services.

Original Title: For those who thought the TikTok ban was simply about data collection, it isn’t. In fact, the data collection is to track the behavior of users as feedback to test the effects of their algorithm manipulation.

I’ll try to find the comparative analysis that showed clear manipulation on TikTok that was absent from other social media platforms. Also, the reason TikTok was targeted has much to do with this issue but also due to the fact that state actors have no constitutional rights in America. foreign individuals do, though not equal to Americans. But the actual foreign state doesn’t and regardless, congress is responsible for regulating international trade and has no obligation to allow foreign entities operate in America. American companies have more rights and that means the government would have a much more difficult time passing judicial review if they tried banning a social media company. Though blatant and egregious manipulation of algorithms to gaslight users like this probably should be illegal regardless. Though it wouldn’t solve the echo chamber problem of algorithmic news feeds but that’s a different issue with likely different solutions.
