I må gerne uddybe jeres svar :)

I did an exercise earlier, but people wanted Rushing Production included. I went back to the drawing board and ran the numbers. This is an imperfect exercise, and is merely for fun. Enjoy!

Guide

  • CPR2 = Combined Adjusted Passer Rating with Rushing Stats included.
    • Adjusted Passer Rating ignores drops, spikes, throwaways, and LOS knockdowns
  • CTD = Combined TDs
  • CTO = Combined Turnovers (INT + Fumb Lost)
  • CYPA = Combined Yards Per Attempt
  • CTD% = Combined TD%
  • CTO% = Combined Turnover% (INT + Fumb Lost)

  • CPR3 = Combined Adjusted Passer Rating, in relation to CRAY% (see below)
  • AYPC = Air Yards Per Completion
  • YAC/Cmp = Yards After Catch Per Completion
  • CRAY% = % of Yards that come from Air Yards & Rush Yards (aka, only from the QB himself)
  • CYAC% = % of Total Yards that come from YAC (or other players)
  • OnTrg% = % of Passes On Target to intended receiver

With all the chatter about Bill Belichick potentially being fired - despite all he has done for the Patriots over the last 20+ years - what are some of the dumbest decisions owners have made in recent years?

Hey all,

Pretty much the title. I picked those years because it gets murkier to grade the most recent classes until they hit year 3. thanks for your input!

Entertaining for neutral fans, but I have never EVER seen this happen in the NFL

Looking at Myles Garrett’s career to this point he’s looking like the best 1OA non-qb I’ve seen in my lifetime, but I’m curious who the top one would be. I know it’s tough because different positions look at different metrics but is there someone above Garrett?

I just rewatched all of the 3rd/4th down, red zone, and 2 minute drill snaps from Atlanta's most recent games against Minnesota. Here's what happened with Bijan on each of those plays:

Quarter Time Downs Spot Where is Bijan?
1 13.47 3rd and 5 ATL 30 Pass blocking vs 3 man rush
1 11.24 3rd and 15 ATL 47 Used as a decoy on a motion into a flat route
1 7.17 3rd and 7 MIN 34 Pass blocking vs 4 man pass rush; ATL forced to kick FG
1 0:08 3rd and 4 MIN 36 Flat route; ATL forced to kick FG
2 13:22 3rd and 6 ATL 42 Lined up at outside WR on an in route
2 9:45 3rd and 17 MIN 33 Used as a decoy on a flat route; ATL forced to kick FG
2 7:33 1st and goal MIN 1 Not on field; False start on OL
2 7:33 1st and goal MIN 6 Used as decoy on flat route; ATL runs a TE screen to Jonnu Smith
2 6:58 2nd and goal MIN 1 Not on field; ATL runs a jet sweep to Jonnu Smith
2 6:30 3rd and goal MIN 1 Not on field; ATL forced to kick FG
2 0:44 3rd and 6 ATL 29 Runs a checkdown route after chipping the DE
2 0:30 3rd and 10 ATL 38 Runs a checkdown route; ATL forced to punt
3 12:27 3rd and 16 MIN 36 Not on field; ATL forced to kick FG
3 8:02 3rd and 10 ATL 25 Pass blocking vs a 4 man rush
4 13:56 3rd and 9 ATL 26 Lined up out wide; runs a drag route
4 12:47 3rd and 8 MIN 45 Pass blocking vs 5 man rush; ATL forced to punt
4 7:37 3rd and 3 ATL 42 Rushes on a power toss; ATL picks up 1st down
4 5:41 3rd and 4 MIN 42 Lined up outside; false start on OL
4 5:41 3rd and 9 MIN 48 Lined up outside; runs a drag route
4 3:45 3rd and 3 MIN 28 Not on field
4 3:02 1st and 10 MIN 19 Not on field
4 2:19 1st and goal MIN 6 Not on field
4 2:13 2nd and goal MIN 5 Not on field; ATL scores TD
4 0:22 1ST AND 10 ATL 25 Runs checkdown route
4 0:15 2nd and 1 ATL 34 Runs checkdown route
4 0:10 3rd and 1 ATL 34 Runs checkdown route; Picks up 1st down
4 0:05 1st and 10 ATL 40 Pass blocking vs 3 man rush on a Hail Mary attempt; ATL does not convert

So we've got 27 key plays. Of which we see:

  • 8 (30%) where he is not on the field
  • 5 (19%) of which he is pass blocking
  • 4 (15%) of which he is pass blocking vs a 3 or 4 man pass rush
  • 5 (19%) of which he is used as a checkdown
  • 3 (11%) of which he is used as a decoy
  • 3 (11%) of which he is lined up outside
  • 1 (4%) of which he receives a carry or target. This carry went for a 1st down.

Hey all, Commanders fan here. I was wondering what the unbiased opinion on Sam Howell is looking right now. Obviously as Washington fan, I’m definitely looking at Sam through rose tinted goggles, more specifically, a QB with a crazy high ceiling with any woes being attributed to growing pains. However I know this is definitely a biased view and even a little naive. I was hoping to get a greater understanding on what the the NFL fanbase as a whole is feeling on him, perhaps to temper my own expectations. Thanks y’all

Listen, i’m not saying his time isn’t coming to an end at the elite level. But one poor season in 23 years does not call for some of the revisionism occurring here lately. Arguably, the defences he’s still producing (2022, 2021, 2020) have kept the Patriots from rebuilding properly. It isn’t easy in this league to escape from 8-8 hell without a franchise QB.

“Brady made him”. You can use whatever stat you want here, but let’s use the most basic one. Points allowed per game. Of course there are influences here. Time of possession, special teams, ability to generate turnovers. But at its most basic level this is what determines the result of a game.

Brady had 20 seasons as a Patriot. He had a top 10 defence in 17 of them. In 3 super bowl victories, the Patriots played 3 of the top 15 offences in NFL history. 01 Rams, 16 Falcons and 18 Rams. 17 points, 22 points(pick six), 3 points. Even throw the record breaking 04 Colts in there, 3 pts. If we change to PTS per drive, he still has 15 top 10 defences!

Manning had 4, Rodgers had 3, Brees had 2. All three had great ball security and time of possession.

Is Brady the GOAT, yes. His consistency in clutch moments puts him ahead of the likes of Peyton and Rodgers. Did he make Bill the greatest defensive mind in history, no!

Brady record when scoring 20+in the playoffs: 32-4. Rodgers is 12-9 in this statistic for a direct comparison.

Average finish in points per drive among notable QBs

Brady: 9th

Rivers: 15th

Peyton: 18th

Rodgers: 18th

Brees: 20th

Mahomes: 20th

And we are trying to pretend Bill didn’t give Brady a significant advantage over his peers? Another 2 super bowls as a DC.

With the way he absolutely glazes his brother, he should seriously consider. I'm my, seriously, how can you call yourself an analyst and be THIS delusional and bias.

Keep in mind, this is just for fun.
Obviously stats in a vacuum are not a be-all, end-all.
And no rushing contributions are counted, which would also alter the results.

Guide:

  • Adj QB Rat = QB Rating taking away Spikes, Throwaways, Drops, or passes knocked down at the LOS.
  • AY/Cmp = Air Yards Per Completion
  • YAC/Cmp = YAC Per Completion
  • %AirY = Percentage of Passing Yards from Air Yards
  • %YAC = Percentage of Passing Yards from YAC
  • OnTgt% = On Target% Per Attempt, minus Spikes & Throwaways
  • BadThr% = Bad Throw% Per Attempt, minus Spikes & Throwaways

There is a DRASTIC difference between the 2023 QB Cap landscape and the 2024 QB Cap landscape. From 2023 to 2024 there is an 88.97% increase to the averaged QB top 10 cap hits. In 2023 the avg (of the top 10) cap hit is 25.4M and then it BOOMS to 48M in 2024. The top QB Cap hit in 2023 would rank as #8 in 2024. ALL of the top 10 QBs have a higher dead cap than their cap hit. How do we see this changing the team landscapes with such a large cap hit going to one position? (Projected 2024 Cap is 240.5M)

2023 QB Cap Hits

  1. Patrick Mahomes - 37.1M
  2. Ryan Tannehill - 36.6M
  3. Jared Goff - 30.9M
  4. Dak Prescott - 26.8M
  5. Lamar Jackson - 22.1M
  6. Russell Wilson - 22M
  7. Kirk Cousins - 20.2M
  8. Matthew Stafford - 20M
  9. Joe Burrow - 19.5M
  10. Deshaun Watson - 19M

Average: 25.4M

2024 QB Cap Hits

  2. Dak Prescott - 59.4M
  3. Patrick Mahomes - 57.3M
  4. Kyler Murray - 51.8M
  5. Matthew Stafford - 49.5M
