Let’s say you’ve worked as an Independent Contractor. Many employers have an incentive to treat their employees as if they were not employees. They can save money on taxes, they don’t have to give you any rights and they can withhold vacations, breaks, T4s, etc......

I’m going to talk about Factory Direct. It started off in 1995 as an electronics retailer and evolved into a merchant of everything refurbished.

It turns out that they are going out of business. Once, they were a popular place to buy products cheap that were liquidated from other stores. Now they are liquidating themselves....

In addition, the Coalition reports the Ford government has:

  • Imposed real dollar cuts on public hospitals, pushing them into service closures and deficits, while funding for-profit hospitals and clinics with increases up to and over 300%. Ontario funds its public hospitals at the lowest rate of all provinces.
  • Funded private for-profit hospitals at double the rate per surgery than it funds public hospitals.
  • Funded private for-profit ophthalmology clinics across Ontario at 21% - 56% more for each cataract surgery.
  • Refused to take action on the for-profit staffing agencies that are charging up to three times more than public hospitals for staff, having escalated their prices by more than 70% since Ford took office, while imposing wage caps and real dollar cuts on staff in public hospitals.
  • Chronically underspent the health care budget, shunting billions to contingency fund and budget surplus, while leaving hospitals in unprecedented crisis.

“Hundreds of millions of dollars in public money is being used to dismantle and privatize our public hospitals, robbing the public to build the private,” said Natalie Mehra, executive director of the Ontario Health Coalition.

London police training with Chechen paramilitary group damages Canada's image

London, Ont., police officers participating in a competition in Dubai alongside a Chechen group accused of committing atrocities in the conflict with Ukraine "damages the image of Canada," says a University of Toronto professor with expertise in international relations and political science. ... Participants also included the Akhmat unit from the Russian republic of Chechnya, a group that's been accused of committing atrocities in the conflict with Ukraine. The unit's victory in an event on the fourth day was celebrated in a ceremony attended by Adam Kadyrov, son of Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov, according to a news release.

We're sending our cops overseas to train with literal war criminals and self-proclaimed fascists. New low!

Health officials in Kingston confirmed on Friday that Avian Flu, also known as bird flu, was detected in a rash of sick and dying Geese found on the Lake Ontario waterfront.

The City of Kingston said last week that it was investigating after finding approximately 30 dead Canadian Geese that showed signs of an illness.

Avian Flu was detected at a poultry farm in western Quebec last month. Experts from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency say the virus spreads through feces and the nasal and eye discharges of infected birds.

Health Canada says there are 23 active investigations in Canada for domestic birds infected with Avian Flu, mostly at poultry farms. There is one investigation in Ontario at a poultry farm in the town of Amherstburg.

"Fenwick invested $3.5 million into buying the $7.4-million property in 2007, making him the largest shareholder. He alleges that after more than a decade of minimal activity, Rice suddenly called a meeting in June 2021. He says Rice urged him and the other investors to take advantage of a “spike” in demand for industrial property by selling the land, adding that it could take another decade for the municipality to build sewer and water services, and developing the property privately would yield a low return on their investment."
